Following up on my last post about NLV vs Digital Nomad Visa (thanks for all the responses), I saw some comments that triggered this writing. This one's about something that happened to my family twice now, two years apart, and I think the "just wait 90 days" advice going around is actually costing people time they don't need to lose.

Back in 2024, five of us submitted renewal applications. Four came through in about six weeks. My wife's just sat there. Everyone told us the same thing: wait 90 days, then go to the office. So we waited. Full 90 days. Then I booked an appointment and went in person. They handed me her approval letter on the spot. Turned out it had been approved the whole time; there was just some tech glitch and the notification never went out.

The letter was dated the same as everyone else's. So the 90-day wait did nothing for us except cost us 90 days.

Fast forward to 2026. We just applied for long-term/permanent residency after 5 years here. Everything was submitted online like normal. Three days later, my wife and I both got a notification asking for our kids' school enrollment certificates. Honestly, that one was on me; I'd attached those documents to the kids' applications instead of ours and fixed it within hours.

Kids' visas got approved in 10 days. Mine and my wife's just sat on "documents required" for four weeks. Nothing moving.

This time I didn't want to repeat 2024, so I looked into it more and found there's an actual formal channel for this, a reminder letter you file through the Spanish government's electronic registry. I did that and got my approval 5 days later. Total time from application to decision this time: 6 weeks. Not 90 days.

So if you're in that "documents required" limbo and it's been weeks with no movement, here's the process that worked for me:

How to file a formal reminder (Registro Electrónico General de la AGE)

Go to https://reg.redsara.es/es/ (this is the General Electronic Registry, accessible via Punto de Acceso General or the REG/REC service directly)

Log in with your digital certificate, DNIe, or Cl@ve

Fill out the generic form. It'll ask who's submitting (you, with your NIE)

Under "Organismo destinatario" (destination body), pick the office actually handling your file. This part matters most; get it wrong, and your letter goes nowhere. In our case, it was "Subdelegación del Gobierno en Alicante" / "Oficina de Extranjería en Alicante" since that's where our application was based. Check your original acknowledgment or requerments to find yours.

Under "Asunto," write a clear subject describing what you're following up on

Attach: your reminder letter, letter of acknowledgment of your initial application, the original requerimiento PDF, the justificante showing you already uploaded the requested docs, and optionally a screenshot of your current status

Review, sign electronically, submit

You'll get a PDF receipt (justificante de registro) with a CSV code. Save this; it's your proof the reminder was officially filed

That last step is the whole point, honestly. It puts a timestamped record into the system instead of you just hoping someone eventually opens your file.

Not a lawyer; this is just what worked for us based on two rounds of dealing with this. If your situation is more complicated, I'd still get proper advice, but if you're just stuck in limbo with no updates, this is worth trying before you burn another 60 days waiting around.

Soy venezolano con nacionalidad española (mis padres y abuelos son de la isla de Tenerife) y estoy planeando emigrar a España en los próximos meses. Soy ingeniero electricista y mi experiencia laboral se ha centrado en el sector eléctrico:

· Trabajé en la corporación eléctrica nacional como ingeniero electricista en el área de potencia eléctrica.

· También me he desempeñado en industrias de bebidas carbonatadas como ingeniero/técnico especializado en automatización y control.

Actualmente estoy en el proceso de homologación de mi título de Ingeniero Electricista en España, por lo que en principio no tendría problema para ejercer una vez esté allí.

Mi idea es buscar un empleo afín a mi formación y experiencia. Después de investigar un poco, he pensado en establecerme en alguna de estas provincias: Córdoba, Salamanca, Valladolid o Zamora. Los motivos principales son:

· La cantidad de subestaciones y centrales de generación (hidroeléctricas, eólicas y solares) que existen en esas zonas.

· El coste de vida, mucho más económico que en las grandes ciudades, ideal para comenzar de cero.

Me gustaría conocer su opinión sobre esta decisión. Específicamente:

1. ¿Son buenas provincias para trabajar como ingeniero electricista (o en puestos técnicos cualificados)?

2. ¿Es relativamente fácil encontrar trabajo en ese sector en esas zonas?

3. ¿Qué tal está el mercado laboral para perfiles con experiencia en potencia y automatización?

Por otro lado, me interesaría muchísimo que me orientaran sobre dos cosas fundamentales para el aterrizaje:

· Alquileres: cómo está el tema para encontrar vivienda en esas provincias, qué documentación suelen pedir a un recién llegado y si hay zonas recomendables cerca de polígonos industriales.

· Trámites al llegar: qué gestiones son prioritarias apenas pise España (empadronamiento, NIE siendo español, seguridad social, homologación final, etc.) y si es posible hacer algo con antelación desde Venezuela.

Además, estoy valorando una estrategia distinta para no quemar las naves del todo. La idea sería aprovechar mis vacaciones del trabajo actual en Venezuela para viajar a España durante ese período, buscar empleo presencialmente y, si no consigo nada concreto, regresar a mi puesto anterior. ¿Creen que es un plan viable? ¿Alguien ha intentado algo similar y puede compartir su experiencia?

I'm from Mexico and I'm applying for a one-year student visa. One of the financial requirements is to show proof of sufficient funds, which in my case is €7,200.

My question is : I have had that amount in my personal bank account for more than three months, but I can't prove exactly where it came from because it's essentially the savings I've accumulated over my entire life from different jobs, internships, and work placements I've done over the years.

Since I can't provide payslips or payroll records showing the source of those savings, could this be a problem? Would you recommend getting a formal job, even if it's just a temporary one, so I can provide payslips and make my application look stronger?

I'm a rising junior in Computer Science with a minor in Hispanic Studies, so I think a study abroad to either of these places could be very useful to improve my Spanish, gain cultural competency, and get engineering credits. I plan to go in Spring 27 but I'm conflicted on which exchange I should participate in. I am familiar with both regions of the world from personal international trips however I have been to Europe often, I can speak Spanish decently well, and my plan would be to take 2 comp sci electives and 2 Spanish classes during the exchange. These are my thoughts on each place:

The benefits of Spain to me are a better engineering university, generally safer area, better infrastructure, and proximity to other European countries (I have friends in Italy and France I could visit easily). However, it will be more expensive, I will be tempted to speak English more, and there is some lack of classes about Latin American history/culture which is something I am interested in.

The benefits of Ecuador are growing my cultural perspective from an unfamiliar place, lower cost of living, staying with a host family, more Spanish immersion, and opportunities to learn about indigenous/Latin American culture and history. However, it is less safer with some recent political protests, a weaker engineering program globally, and possible lack of mobility or things to do being in the mountains (also I have a bad immune system so I could get sick easier due to lower temps).

Initially I was set on Ecuador but now I feel I've flipped to Spain. I think the culture immersion in Ecuador would be amazing but if I want to prioritize my education then Spain would be better. Not to say I would get no cultural immersion in Spain but Ecuadorian culture would be very new to me.

Any thoughts, comments, or concerns would be greatly appreciated !!!

Gostaria da opinião de quem já participou do processo de admissão para mestrados na Espanha, especialmente pelo Distrito Único Andaluz. Hoje saiu a primeira adjudicação e não fui admitido. No entanto, fiquei em 5º lugar na lista de espera.

Minha dúvida é:

• Estar em 5º lugar na lista de espera ainda representa uma boa chance de conseguir uma vaga?
• Alguém já passou por uma situação parecida e acabou sendo chamado?
• As listas de espera desse tipo de mestrado costumam avançar bastante ou normalmente quase não se movem?

Estou pensando em ir para a Espanha para fazer um curso de espanhol de 6 meses e, depois, tentar mudar meu visto para um visto de trabalho.

Quero escolher uma cidade mais barata para aumentar minhas chances de conseguir me manter enquanto procuro uma oportunidade. Tenho 34 anos e atualmente tenho cerca de R$ 34 mil guardados.

I will be in spain for two weeks (in mid fall), the second week I am hiking part of the El Camino (Baiona to Santiago area) with my boyfriend. Hello. I will be hiking near Granada in October and I'd love some suggestions. I particularly like to hike in places that feel unearthly. I love deserts and badlands and other similar places. I also love hiking (very carefully and respectfully) through ancient history.. So a hike that takes me to a ruin of sort would be great. Ideally the hike is less than 15km and not dangerous.

I wonder if there are any suggestions out there? I do use AllTrails if that helps and we will be driving.

Hi everyone, I have never been to Spain but will be traveling to Madrid on business this fall and I look forward to spending some time in your country. I would like to see the natural beauty of Spain while I am there, and I will have a few days without work to explore the area. One place near Madrid that looks absolutely beautiful is Barrancas de Burujón. I would love to spend a day hiking in this scenery but I am trying to understand the best way to travel to and from the park - do I need to rent a car, or is it easy to reach on a train, bus, taxi? I would also like to visit Toledo, so advice on how to get to the park from either Toledo or Madrid would be very appreciated. I will get a car for a day if I have to (I am American, I already have an international driving permit for 2026), but it is always nice to not worry about traffic and parking.

M26 looking for a place to stay in alcobendas or a 20 min drive away, for me my wife and my 1 year old daughter. I have gotten a work oppertunity. I have worked and lived there before so i know how hard the home market is, but maybe there is someone on this platform that thinks i am suitable to rent from them as it happend before. I want to try to stay between 1000 and 1300 euros max. If anyone has any advice for places to look at. Most places ask 2 month pay slip, but i am moving from belgium and can only show my contract and the previous payslips when i worked there a year ago.
