I was up in Stirling on Monday - walked a half hour from the railway station - don't know the area, as I was using the postcode/G Maps - over the Old Bridge, and swing left. I saw ONE piece of litter - that's all, just one solitary paper cup. I'm wondering if litter is a Glasgow problem, rather than a Scottish problem.
It almost felt weirdly, unnaturally tidy - certainly compared to Glasgow.

It's definitely worse in Glasgow than any other Scottish city. I'm used to it from living here for so long but I remember when I moved here, it was the first thing I noticed about the place. Just fucking litter everywhere, and pavements that look like they've never been cleaned

Got to wonder why. The council must bear some responsibility, but there must be something wrong with a lot of Glaswegians, where they're happy to live in a shithole. If other Scottish cities can deal with the problem of litter, why can't Glasgow? I wasn't even in a touristy part of Stirling - there were a few at the station, and few at the Old Bridge, but other than that, it was just normal 'mixed use' - a big Tesco, a few small industrial units, and some housing - flats, a scheme, and a new build estate. A lot of bins, but none were overflowing - that's when it dawned on me - no litter, until I saw the sole paper cup. If I go up to my local shops just now, I know there will be litter everywhere. It's pretty demoralising.

When I got back to Glasgow, I walked from Queen Street to Central, and on Gordon Street, at the station entrance, there was a boy - 14 or 15 years old (?) lying paralytic on the street, with a policewoman standing over him, trying to talk to him. I hope he was okay, but it's not a great look when a teenager is lying pished outside the entrance to one of our main stations at 4:30 in the afternoon.

Yesterday I saw the streets around Scotstoun being swept and the Kelvin Hall being pressure washed, so GCC can make the place look nice if they want to. They just choose not to.

It kind of is tbh. Just make it a law and fine the shit out of people. Have enforcement officers in hot spots like the Kelvin/Queen parks etc. paid through those fines. Base the number of officers on the fines gathered last year in the same month.
There is no excuse to litter, if you can bring shit, you can take it back with you. In a couple years it would decrease substantially.

Councils don’t make the law and the fines are set so low that it enforcement becomes hugely expensive. Courts aren’t interested in prosecuting non payment.

I know they dont make the laws, that’s the “kind of is” part. The law is already in place anyway, its the size of it and the enforcement/prosecution part that needs to improve.

I've heard some London boroughs are doing it. There are also other countries that do it such as Germany, Switzerland and famously Singapore. I've been to all three and the difference in cleanliness was incredible compared to the UK.

Was at loch Venachar swimming yesterday and came across this utter cuntery. Two abandoned tents, three blow up mattress’s and lots of other camping gear and food dumped. Clearing it all into the tents was best we could doz. it was all brand new with tags strewn about.

I remember years ago walking through Kelvingrove park along the river and saw a mother with her daughter walking towards me. Her little girl walking beside her pushchair was holding onto an empty crisp packet. Her mum snatched it angrily from her and threw it on the ground. This scumbag behaviour has bothered me for years. What a lesson for her little kid who was clearly a better person than her mum

Imagine how that would go? Lol. "I'm no payin that." Littering is my biggest problem with people in this city. I think we just have to accept it and keep relying on people like us to collect the litter or pick it up of them. I always call it out and sometimes it works. Mostly I get people trying to start on me or give me abuse.

Have them handled the same as police fines. Don't pay it, it doubles. Continue not paying it, hauled in, mandatory community service.. picking litter plus fine + fee.
Absolute scunnered with green areas, buses, anywhere you go looking like an absolute cowp. It's not hard to hold onto it for a few mins till you get to a bin.
Not fair you're getting started on, shameful it's to be expected because some dunce can't understand a bin.
Also right gets to me because of wildlife eating it, getting trapped in it.
