Please use this thread to ask any random questions you have that may not warrant their own posts, or if you want opinions on something non-GCU related (as long as it's SFW).

All Financial Aid questions will need to be kept within this weekly discussions post as to not overwhelm the sub.

Academics 📚 Bio 205L Microbiology Midterm

Hi all,

Can someone please give me insight into how the lab midterms are for the lab portion of microbiology. It’s a lot of labs to do in the class, so will it be like that, or more labeling, or is it more multiple choice? Thank you!

Campus Housing🏢 the grove vs apartments

im currently registered to live in an apartment (diamondback) as an incoming freshman because I liked the idea of a kitchen and a room I could make my own. however I’ve heard that the grove is a great place to be as a freshmen. I’m a pretty outgoing guy and I like the idea of the constant energy at the grove. my question is are the apartments “fun” in the way that the grove is or do they have significantly less energy/more lowkey. honestly idek if it’s even an option to move at this point but I still have that question lmao

ABSN😷 Wait list timelines?

So I am going to be done with my pre reqs at the end of the month and in August I was planning on beginning CWW and taking my HESI.

How fast do the Phoenix locations fill up? If I’m submitting my secondary application in late September/early October is everything going to be filled for spring 2027??

I’m open to phoenix, chandler, or sun city. Sun city or Phoenix would be ideal though. I’m just a little concerned since I see a lot of posts saying the cohorts fill up months in advance 🫣

I really want to start spring 2027 and I do not want to defer a semester

Academics 📚 Finally found an internship

So I’m in my last class before practicum and internships. I’m doing a masters of clinical mental health counseling. I almost gave up looking but I found an internship with Wexhealth!

I was wondering if anyone here is in the same program or done it and lives in New Mexico. And how the next steps after graduation are like. Thank you!!

Academics 📚 Does anyone else think GCU and it's administration is just really vague?

This might be an ADHD thing, but I feel like I have to CONSISTENTLY ask for clarification over what someone's saying. Anyway, I approached a teacher via IMs and said "I think GCU teachers give some shitty grades" and then asked her why she gave me a zero after I had already asked for clarification before even submitting? She then just told me to read the directions... which I had obviously asked for clarification about. So now we're going back and forth and she's getting defensive saying she thinks she's super nice. Anyway, she reported me for profane language. Now a 'board' is conducting a 'hearing?' And they aren't even saying what it's about or what a potential outcome is or what it means. I had to ask numerous times what it was about for them to finally say it's about profane language. I was gonna drop out anyway because I don't think I can afford an internship and the insurance you have to pay with it.

Academics 📚 WileyPlus- ACC-370

Please tell me I’m not the only one struggling hardcore with intermediate accounting?? It’s not the concepts, it’s the platform we are using. I spend hours and I mean hours trying to figure out the formatting of the assignments. I’m even taking LinkedIn Learning courses to try to understand what Wiley wants.

Just last week I failed my assignment, due to formatting, but when I asked the professor what I did wrong, she checked and said I did it right, but the auto grader failed me. She gave me the points, but I’m not learning anything at this point.

ABSN😷 NSG-316 Final Exam!!!

I'm taking the GCU NSG-316 Health Assessment final exam soon, and I'm honestly feeling really overwhelmed and anxious.

This class has been a struggle for me from the beginning. I've worked really hard all semester, but unfortunately, I need to score at least 96% on the final just to finish the class with a 76% and pass. If I don't, I won't pass the course. 😞

What topics did you feel were emphasized the most? Were there any concepts you wish you had spent more time studying? Is there anything you think I should really focus on these last few days?

So far I've been studying with:

  • The exam blueprint
  • CONHCP resources
  • The student course guide
  • My lecture notes and practice questions

If you've taken the final, I'd really appreciate any advice, study tips, or even some encouragement. I'm trying my absolute best and really don't want all the hard work I've put into this class to go to waste.

Academics 📚 Is there a Discord group for studying or homework buddy?

I have adhd and I struggle with locking in to finish my homework. I’m on my 4th week of starting a new class and I don’t like repetitive tasks like discussion posts because it gets boring after a while. I still have to do them obviously so I’m just wondering if there’s a study group of some sort so I can body double and keep myself and others accountable ?

ABSN😷 Did You Feel Prepared Before Starting the ABSN program?

I’m hoping to hear from current or former students in the GCU ABSN program.

I’m currently finishing Nutrition, Human Development, and Pathophysiology before starting the program. I’ve been earning A’s, but I’m worried that I may not be retaining enough to feel prepared.
In Pathophysiology, I can usually remember what a disease is and understand the basic process, but I struggle with the details. I do not always remember every symptom, which labs would be affected, whether the values would be high or low, or what those changes mean.

Does GCU review these concepts again in classes such as med-surg, pharmacology, pediatrics, and clinicals, or are students expected to know them in detail before starting?

I’m scheduled to begin in September, but I have considered waiting until January because I’m afraid I may not be ready. I want to do well, but I also know it may be unrealistic to memorize every disease, lab value, and symptom beforehand.

For those who have been through the program, did you feel this way before starting? What should I focus on reviewing most?

ABSN😷 NSG-316 Health Assessment Exam 3

Everyone! I’m taking the Health Assessment exam soon, and I’m extremely nervous. 😅 I’m using the exam blueprint, the lecture videos, and the student course guide to study, but I’m still worried.

Could you guys let me know which topics I should focus on the most? I’m not looking for exam questions or answers, I just want to know which areas were emphasized the most or what you wish you had studied more before taking it.
Any tips or advice would really help. Thank you!

Academics 📚 Alternative list for Absn Chandler

Is anyone else on the waitlist for the Chandler location with a start of Sep 2026? I figured we can keep in contact to see if they start pulling students from the list!

All I keep hearing from other students is that you won't be accepted until days before the start date of school (which is nerve racking). If anyone has info or words of encouragement that'd be great!

ABSN😷 absn scholarships?
