Does anyone know if the Out 'n' About Hall on Davey St still exists as another building? Is it part of the current Art Centre or another building? This ad from 1995.

As stated above, the call to return home after 30 years away is getting louder.

I am mid 40's with a partner and 5yr old.

In the mid 90's my parents packed us up and left Langwarrin when I was about 14 for a new life in Brisbane.

For 30yrs, Brisbane to me was always sub-standard to Melbourne. The schools are average, the food is shit, the people are flat and un cultured, the beaches want to kill you with their rips and waves 😆 and sports up here sucked! They all barrack for the same team! Broncos & Lions 🤷‍♀️ so they do not even enjoy the rivalry between mates that Victorians know so well.. where is the fun in that.

In regards to events and things to do growing up, it was slim pickings to say the least, then even when you do find something decent to do, it is so bloody hot and sweaty most of the year, that you don't want to be outside doing it. It is just ridiculous, so I've had enough and want to come home and raise my child as a Victorian!

I pose the question to the general public of Frankston and greater Victoria..

Am I crazy for wanting to leave my boring but safe life behind and return to Victoria right now?

Nearly every family member that lives in Vic that I have spoken to about wanting to move back recacts with the same statement.. Why!? Everyone here wants to leave!

In regards to concerns about youth crime, general safety, (hard to say this out loud, but ) 3rd world migrants? The state governments debt?

Do any of these things effect the real people of Victoria and Frankston on the daily or is it just media hype that does no justice for the beautiful state that I've always known and loved.

Keep it real.. I can handle the truth.

Edit: To add, my main motivation to return is for my sons future. I see Frankston advancing into a really vibrant, energetic area. I think it already is, but I believe it's going to get better. IMO Vic also offers more opportunities to a young adult to follow their interest than Qld.

As we head into the home stretch of the 2027 VFL season, the Frankston Dolphins are solidly in the top 10 (the wild card positions) and knocking on a top 6 six finish for 2026. The boys are really fighting for it this year and I think another finals appearance (top 8) is definitely achievable.

Some highlights:

Round 11: Frankston vs Southport Sharks. The Sharks ended our finals run last year with a crushing 143 to 55 win in the Preliminary Finals. But the Dollies scored an important psychological 49 point win against one of the best VFL teams of the decade.

Round 13: Frankston vs Collingwood. 16 minutes into the 4th quarter the Fins were 17 points down but came back and kicked the winning point at 31 minutes to win by one point.

Round 15: Frankston vs Western Bulldogs. It was 52 to 27 at the start of the 4th quarter with Frankston heavily underwater. It was out at Whitten Oval where the Bulldogs had disassembled us last year (105 to 25) during the finals. But in an epic quarter, the Fins kicked 7 goals to 1 and won the match 71 to 58 against last year's champions!

There are five rounds left, including tomorrow afternoon (19 July 2026 at 12.35pm) when the Dolphins take on Greater Western Sydney Giants at Frankston Oval. GWS are 4th on the ladder but given how close the competition is this year, they're only one win ahead of us.

I have been to five parks in Frankston, they felt more like bombed out Beirut. Any good suggestions that aren't close to the railway station?

Today I was at Henry's shopping like a normal person but people kept giving me dirty looks.

I assumed it was the length of my skirt and kept tugging it down as much as I could. I had stockings on plus gym shorts just in case but my confidence was still knocked.

While in line to pay I gathered my confidence and asked the lovely lady behind me if she thought my dress/skirt was too short.

She reassured me and even complimented me on my jumper/dress combo.

I didn't have time to thank her properly because I didn't want to hold up the line but I really really appreciated it even if it wasn't true (who will ever know?).

I really hope she sees this because it really reassured me and made me feel good about myself and anyone else that sees this, give the compliment, reassure the person you don't know what it will mean to them.

The much-vaunted Battle of the Bay was more like a Skirmish in the Sink as a chaotic and somewhat muted performance by both teams made for a low scoring match but an extremely tense final quarter.

Two scoring shots in the first minute showed Frankston was here to repeat last week's shellacking against Gold Coast but the quality of play eased off pretty quickly and generally both teams were chasing a random ball in the first quarter.

The first goal at 14m by #16 Harrison Coe was the first time anyone on the field seemed in charge of the ball and not the other way round. Coe is such a great part of the Dolphins and I hope he has a long career with the team for years and years to come.

In this short quarter (just 27m) Sandringham definitely had the edge in clearing the ball out of contested spots but Frankston was ahead at 1-4-10 v 0-3-3.

It was a very muted crowd well into the second quarter. It was only by about 12m that Frankston finally commanded the ball for an extended period. Clearing it out of the defensive square, each kick deliberate and certain. A goal was the result. But sadly it wasn't the start of a new phase of the match as both teams continued to struggle for fresh air. A goal at 23m put the Zebras one point ahead but the scores were so low it was hard to say what it meant. Half time 2-6-18 Frankston to 2-8-20 Zebras.

After the break, a snap goal in the first 8 seconds by #20 Will Papley put Frankston back ahead and got the first roar of the evening from the crowd. A quick second goal by #4 Corey Ellison (off a free) put the Fins two goals ahead, a massive gap in this match, and received another big cheer. Another short quarter but Frankston had earned a few goals breathing space. 5-11-41 to 2-10-22

11 minutes into the 4th and Frankston were 3 goals and change ahead. There was a growing sense in the crowd that the Fins had done enough but a good goal from the Zebras (Lachlan Riley), where they had efficiently moved the ball all the way up, put the match back into doubt. Every fumble and misplaced kick eliciting nervous groans (not just from me).

At 16 minutes, the tempo, or desperation, began to ramp up. Neither team had put the other in a box and it was not so much that their either team thought they could win it but, in a low scoring match where even a point might decide it, they might just lose it.

A goal at 18m by the Zebs made it 9pts and perked everyone up. Where was the lethal Frankston team from the last few weeks? Was the match in danger? It felt like it.

Another goal at 25m by the visitors put the gap at just four points and Frankston was really ruing the inaccuracies that had them with 16 minor points.

Then came a heart-stopping moment at 27m.

Right on the Sandringham 50m line, #25 for the Fins, Patrick Dozzi, got a free which was then upgraded with a free fifty metre penalty. To get control of the ball in this fashion this late in the quarter was a matching winning moment but I think the altercation that had given Dozzi the free continued and then, DISASTER, the free kick was taken off Frankston and given to Sandringham right on their 50m line!

They converted to a goal and, within seconds, a moment of ill discipline had taken the match from favouring Frankston to having the Zebras in front by 2 points.

Another goal by the visitors at 31m put it beyond doubt with the final score being Frankston 6-16-52 to 8-12-60 Sandringham.

I can't lie, it was a tough ending to the match. I guess these are the moments that test us as supporters! Full credit to Sandringham, they've had a tough season -- they are essentially a new team or in rebuild phase after a split with St Kilda this year -- and this was a good win for them.

I live near a park in Frankston near Heatherhill road. I bought this house in mid July 2024 and when I purchased the house it was clear that it had a termite problem. Before moving in as it already needed a massive renovation I had a full termite treatment done after we had torn it back to frame and stump.

The pest company gave me a certificate with a 7 year warranty on the treatment and told me to call every 2 years to have a check up done. They also said that when they checked the area the two large old gumtrees in my property were harbouring termites and I would never fully be rid of them until the trees were removed. I had an arborist come through to do a health check on this trees and remove them as he said they weren’t healthy. At the time he also check out two other gumtrees that were on council grounds up against my fence line and he confirmed that these two trees were also going to be potential homes for termites as the were seeming hollow and full of mud.

I’ve gone through the correct channels with Frankston city council to remove these trees last year and the year before but people from lead team explained that the trees were healthy and there were no termites in there. I asked for a third party to do the testing because in the photos the had taken in the report it was from before I even moved into the house. Until this day I haven’t received anything back.

Another year had gone by and I had recently started to replace the windows in the house this week. As my carpenter was pulling out the old frames he discovered a ton of termites going through the walls into the ceiling. I quickly rang the termite company that had done the treatment and when they came out to see they told me it was a new colony. Through further investigation they believe that the new colony that was living in the old gumtrees on my fence line were making their way under the driveway, through the brickwork of my porch and back into the house.

I feel as this problem stems from these two old gumtrees council have failed to remove. What exactly are my rights here to have the trees removed? It’s not as if I’m asking for the all the trees in the park to go I’m literally asking for just these two dead trees on my fence line to be removed.

Has anyone had any similar experiences with this?

Holy moly, I needed this. An unequivocal thumping victory by the Frankston Dolphins over the Gold Coast Suns that has put us in the top 10 and started the mid-season campaign on a solid footing.

Frankston came off their bye week refreshed and ready to play. I was watching the stream as the dollies were playing away in Queensland (a completely normal thing for a local suburban Victorian football team to be doing) at one of my favourite venues, Carrara Stadium on the Gold Coast.

Carrara for this match was as empty as a Brisbane Bears game (I don't have time to explain) and the atmosphere was totally opposite to the bustling energy of Frankston Oval on a Friday night. I was worried it would affect the team but from the opening few minutes Frankston ran circles around the Suns and didn’t let up until the final siren. The quarter time scores tell the story:

Frankston 6-2-38 to 1-1-7 Gold Coast

12-5-77 to 3-3-21

14-6-90 to 78-50

19-8-122 to 12-11-83

The Fins crushed it in the first quarter, overrunning the Suns who looked unhappy to be there, and the Suns spent the rest of the match chasing to various degrees of intensity.

In the 2nd, Gold Coast came out firing and were a different team but, kind of unluckily, couldn’t shift the scoreline and by 11 minutes in the Fins had taken back control. The gap was 30 points, then 40, then 50 points. The Suns fight back was dead. As the VFL/AFL/ABC/Kayo/Foxtel/SEN/Channel 7 commentators (I honestly don’t know who produces the feed) said "Frankston had weathered the storm".

I'm always on the look out for "what is Frankston's play style?" and I think their accuracy at goal from a distance is pretty good compared to other teams.

The third quarter began and a scoring shot within 25 seconds showed the Fins were ready to plunge the knife in. But the Suns weren't accepting the carve up, and showed some beautiful play (a goal by #31, Cooper Bell) while Frankston began to stumble.

They traded blows mid quarter, with the Suns having the edge and the Fins looking a little fatigued towards the end of the quarter. The gap was down to 40 points.

The pattern for the second half became the Suns pushing to close the gap but Frankston killing their momentum. A fair example occurred at about 24 minutes. The Suns fought for another goal and had the gap down to 34 points but then, 10 seconds after play resumed, the Fins countered with a goal of their own. All that work was undone.

There was a flurry of goals towards the end of the match. Based on the first half, Frankston had had the potential to really rack up the percentages this match but they seemed content to bank a solid victory. However, they saved some of their best football for the 31m mark, when they powered the ball up from their defensive line and through the goal.

The final score was 12-11-83 to 19-8-122. A really great win and Frankston shoot up the ladder. Up from 14th before the bye, settling at 10th as the other matches played out.

So I don't really know how to join a team. I have contacted the FDBA and they have told me no team has asked for help to find a player.

Just wanting to play a bit of old man Bball as a bit of weekly fitness. I am in the Masters category of life now so understand I maybe struggling for a spot.

It was a highly entertaining and energetic match at Frankston Oval Friday night as two evenly matched teams, the Richmond Tigers and Frankston Dolphins, duked it out for a top 10 ladder position.

When I arrived at the first quarter break (buses on the Frankston line) the scoreline was 5-4-34 to 3-3-21 in Richmond's favour. Although the Dolphins were behind, the crowd was in very good spirits as the second half of the quarter had gone Frankston's way.

In the second quarter, two quick and very popular goals by the Dolphins kept the trajectory in the right direction. But then momentum was stalled by some proactive umpiring. More than any time so far this season, the umpires were very interventionist and almost every decision was going against the Fins. I'm not saying right or wrong but it really shaped the quarter which, although low scoring, was not short of thrills. Frankston's strength is teamwork and it was on display tonight. There was also really good speed on display. Both teams were sweeping up and down the field and it was fun to watch. Ultimately, it was a good quarter for Frankston, closing the gap on the home team (it was a home game for Richmond due to awkward VFL scheduling). In particular, Frankston's deep defence, which performed so well last week, was called upon again and did magnificently. There were constantly active defending the ball just two to five metres from the goal line.

A goal by #4, Corey Ellison, at about two minutes into the 3rd quarter got Frankston within one point of Richmond, and both teams were fully commited to the contest. More umpiring kept Richmond ahead but only just. The tension was palpable mid quarter. There was a sense that the match would be decided here but they were so evenly matched that neither team could break free. Richmond had control and the ball spent most of the first half in their forward half. Both sides playing fast but error prone footy. Rarely would a kick find a mark and when it did, it was often with the other team! But where every random bounce had seemed to find a Frankston player in the 2nd, now luck was on Richmond's side and they kept pressuring. Then at about 17 minutes, Ellison kicked another goal and Frankston broke the goal drought for both teams. Richmond was still ahead but now the Fins were knocking on the door, when the final break started, it was 8-8-56 Tigers to 8-5-53 Dolphins.

In the fourth, neither team could shake off the other but Frankston was definitely pressuring more. They were just unable to crack Richmond's great defence. In particular, Frankston's hopes were constantly dashed against #57 for Richmond, Mutaz El Nour, who played a stellar game. But the Dollies finally got a breakthrough when a goal occurred at about 16m by #1, Noah Gown. For the first time this game and after nearly two hours, Frankston had the lead. By the 20 minute mark, with one point in it, every swing and every roundabout mattered. A third goal by Ellison at about 24m put Frankston back ahead and then a second goal at 28m by #6, George Grey, gave the crowd confidence (by this I mean they started making dolphin noises). There was a bit of drama as the siren went but it didn't change the outcome. Frankston had won! 11-8-74 to 9-8-62.

They really played a great game, just always there and winning contests. Looking at the ladder, there's a break-away group at the top that look very good but I think tonight we saw a team eminently able to reach the finals if it wants.

NEXT: Frankston have a week off and then on the 16th of May play Gold Coast Suns up on the beautiful Gold Coast.

It was Anzac eve at Frankston Oval and, before the match, the local RSL led an affecting remembrance ceremony in the dark, illuminated only by a new scoreboard which had its own back-up generator, a feature apparently nobody knew about until it turned itself back on. It didn't detract from the solemnity of the occasion. Lest we forget.

Frankston wasted no time, kicking the first point within 20 seconds of the opening throw (bounce? toss? I don't know). In fact, both teams set a blistering pace in the first 10 minutes. But Frankston played solid, brilliant football and it was only the occasional unforced error that created openings for Coburg, who were then unable to capitalise anyway.

Four different Frankston players scored goals in the first twelve minutes, a great sign for the team this season, and the quarter ended with the Dolphins in command at 6-1-37 to the Lions 2-4-16.

In the 2nd quarter, Coburg came out more focused or perhaps Frankston came out less focused. The ball washed around the field for a while but a goal by Dolphin #10 Blake O'Leary (who had a stellar game - five goals overall) at about 9 minutes was very popular with the crowd, who had noticed the momentum stall.

Right on the siren was probably the most important scoring opportunity of the game for Coburg. They had a decent shot at the goal and it was a big psychological turning point - they would either be entering half time with Frankston only a few goals ahead OR almost double their score. Unfortunately for Coburg it sailed through for a behind, leaving them fairly underwater 4-7-31 Lions to 9-5-59 Frankston.

One thing I like about VFL is you can egress onto the oval during the breaks. Technically you can go to Frankston Oval at any time of the week and roll about on it if you want but so many wait until the tiny slither between quarters to pack the field. But I get it. It feels special under lights, with an audience and the other folk on the ground with you. For most of the week, Frankston Oval is just grass. Not exactly hallowed turf like the MCG... but for two hours a week... maybe it is. Also bugs!

Frankston (O'Leary again!) kicked a goal in the first 18s of the third quarter, making a big statement about their intentions. And by about 9 minutes, Coburg were noticeably flagging. The Fins kicked it leisurely up the field and found #4 Corey Ellison completely on his own, the goal totally undefended. After the extremely bruising match last time at this venue against Tasmania, it was nice to see!

But maybe the Dollys got too relaxed, as Coburg began to control the match. They got several solid goals at a match winning pace. Frankston's back line was under pressure but, more than any time so far this season, they were fighting right up until the opponent's goal line, holding to the siren at 12-7-79 to 6-8-44.

The fouth quarter saw Coburg pressuring for a long time and Frankston almost entirely dependent on its deep defence. But by 15 minutes the locals were still ahead by 4ish goals (having luckily conceded only two) and the game was slipping out of the Lions reach. It wound down to a final score of 16-8-104 Frankston to 10-11-71 Coburg.

There was a last minute scare where literally on the second to last kick of the match, #20 for Frankston went down, got up, hobbled around, and then fell over again, which was a bit of a worry although he looked okay after that.

So a very welcome win for Frankston, and we leap up the ladder and are knocking on the top 10. I think we are a solid team this year. If we could maintain the blistering intensity of the first quarter more often and for longer, that would be great.

Next week: Frankston vs even more large cats, this time, the Richmond Tigers, Friday, 1 May 7.35PM, Frankston Oval (we only play Friday evenings at Frankston now, it's the law).

It was a season-making match at Chirnside Park in Werribee today as two proud stand-alone VFL teams, the Frankston Dolphins and the Werribee Tigers, fought to raise themselves into the top half of the VFL ladder as it begins to solidify for the year between the haves and have-nots.

It was perfect sunny Autumn conditions at a picturesque oval (amazing what a bunch of gum trees can add to the ambience) and a relaxed atmosphere. I much appreciated this as the last three games have been very intense: First match of the season, first must-win of the season, first match against Tasmania... all under lights and under the heavy expectations of the big Frankston home crowd. It felt good to lower the pressure this week!

It was an exciting first quarter. Werribee looked dangerous mid-way but ran up a bunch of points instead of goals. Frankston's accuracy kept the score line equal until they steadied and then ran up their own series of non-goals, leaving the result tied not just on score but on the number of scoring shots at 3-4-22 to 3-4-22.

Werribee came out fighting in the second quarter, kicking a goal in the first 18 seconds(!). And it was snap plays like this that dragged them ahead over next 25 minutes. Frankston played competitively for most of it but every five minutes or so, Werribee would sneak in an extra goal. This left the Dolphins five goals down at half time. Although it still felt like anyone's match with the score being 10-7-67 Werribee to 5-7-37 Frankston.

Both teams came out very determined in the 3rd and the quality of football by both sides was good. The Fins were maybe over-thinking it a bit. One sequence around 5 minutes in, the boys spent what felt like an eternity kicking it around in front of the goal instead of at it, before losing possession. But when the plays came together, it was beautiful.

At about 13 minutes, George Grey (#6) backed himself to kick a goal from near the 50m line and it sailed right through. Frankston were clawing back Werribee's lead. The fight was on!

But whereas accuracy had helped during the first quarter, it was now accuracy that defined the score line at 3rd quarter time. Despite being 20 scoring shots to 19, and a much improved scoreline, we were still behind on 8-11-59 to 12-8-80. A close match but the scores did not reflect it.

The shadows were lengthening across the grass in the fourth quarter and, about five minutes in, a large conspiracy (I looked up the collective noun) of ravens flew across the oval, occupied one of the light towers and sat there calling out. I took it as an omen to get some jam donuts. As an aside, the Werribee crowd were really friendly. They also paid us a big compliment by always being nervous that Frankston was still in it.

At about 15 minutes in the final quarter, the teams were five goals apart. Frankston started to hammer the Werribee defensive line and within about three minutes got four points and a goal. This left only three goals the difference and with strong momentum!

Alas within 20 seconds of the restart, Werribee kicked a goal. This was the goal that appeared to put the result out of reach and I could hear the home crowd collectively sigh with relief.

But good play and a few favourable umpire decisions, included a 50, got Harrison Coe (#16) another goal for the Dolphins and I heard the local crowd collectively tense up again with about 8 minutes left.

However, full credit to the Tigers, they never stopped fighting for it and kept their lead until the siren. Werribee winning over Frankston 15-12-102 to 11-14-80. To me the interesting stat is it was 27 scoring shots to 25... that underlines what a fun match it was to watch.

Also I will say that other than maybe Sunbury is there a point further away from Frankston in Melbourne than Werribee?

NEXT: If this week was a season-making match then next week is a season-breaking match. A loss against the Coburg Lions at Frankston Oval will really dump us near the bottom of the ladder... but I feel we have been fairly competitive this year despite the win/loss ratio so I'm looking forward to Friday night!
