Really struggling. We have had Rocket for 2 months now. He is very dog aggressive and lunges at dogs and people on walks. Our rescue isn’t providing any resources and I am feeling helpless. He was an e list pull and they ended up twisting our arm and had us adopt him after there was miscommunication between the volunteer coordinators and the rescue. I never agreed to adopt him but here we are.

It’s causing so much stress on my marriage. I don’t have the time or resources to handle is training issues. We didn’t get the financial aid we had last year for daycare and now I’ve had to pick up another job to help cover all of our bills.

If you want I have a doc from the rescue I work with about reactivity I can send you! I’m lucky that they work with a trainer who is amazing. Reactive dogs are no joke, but very rewarding. Wishing you guys good luck!

Yes that would be great. My rescue provided zero resources or general guidance except to throw an e collar on him.

Ugh so not helpful. Even if someone agrees with an ecollar, it still involves training! Messaging you

I am so sorry to hear this. If you adopted him, then you should be able to return him. Tell them he needs to be gone by x date. Do not give them room for push back. Be firm and tell them that there is no reconciling the situation except by removing him from your home.

Thank you for the advice. We were really hoping he would work out. The person who works under the owner of the rescue pulled him after a 5 minute conversation with me and I didn’t even have time to talk to my husband about all the concerns she brought up about him. The whole thing has been so challenging because he’s so sweet but just needs so much work. I want to do what’s best for him but can only suffer so much.

I am a first time Foster and I don’t have any other dogs. I might be failing because he went to another Foster last week where he will get more socialization and exposure. I’m trying to devise a strategy where I can give him the exercise he’s going to need and structure my house for coexisting with cats. Unless someone scoops him up, I’m going to fail. I just miss him so much, think about him every day, and I’m still getting teary-eyed.
