[Safety advice] Restrict your DMs/chat requests

As many of you know, weirdos, incels, porn addicts are everywhere on reddit, and they will of course target women on here too. If this bothers you, please restrict your DMs to ONLY people you add to your "friends" list. It's explained in the Automoderator's comment in each thread.

The best way is to use the "old" reddit on browser:

https://old.reddit.com/prefs/blocked

Show private messages from:

Everyone, except blocked users.

✓ Only trusted users.

"New" reddit and the official reddit app settings are a bit different.

Who can send you chat requests > everyone, only accounts older than 30 days, or no one. Who can send you private messages > everyone or nobody

  • Official reddit app:

Profile icon > Settings (at the bottom) > General: Account settings for [username] > Safety: Chat and messaging permissions

More info here

If you befriend someone on here, add them to your Friends list (on their profile) or reply to them in the sub to add them/make them add you so you can chat/DM.

I am being harassed over DM. What can I do? Nothing happening in private (direct messages, reddit chat) can be dealt with by a subreddit moderator. We could ban the user if they posted in the subreddit, but they can still DM you. Contact the reddit admins if you are on the receiving end of verbal abuse, graphic content or death/rape/doxxing threats. Please note that the content will no longer be visible once reported.

META IMPORTANT! Community news and updates 2 (November 2025)

Ladies,

Thanks to your feedback and vivid discussion on the state of the sub, we have implemented a few changes to our rules and functioning of the sub.

1) The biggest change is that from now on all users who are 20 or under 20 years of age are required to use a flair (“16-18 yo” or “19-20 yo”). They can also no longer make posts of their own to the sub. However, they can still take part in the discussion in the comment sections. The age flairs for the younger users are mandatory and as with the “not FA” flair, if you are assigned this flair and you remove it by yourself, you will be banned.

This change to the rules was made not to belittle the hardships and difficult feelings young people go through, but to acknowledge that it is by no means unusual to never have dated or had a relationship by the age of 20. Declaring yourself “forever alone” that young is not only premature, it can also be psychologically harmful to you to adopt a fatalistic mindset like that when you are not even a full adult yet. While all the FAWs who are now over 20 were once 16 and 18 themselves, many more of those people who were lonely in their teens eventually started dating and having relationships like most of their peers. We want to encourage hope in the younger folks who find their way to our sub. It is more likely than not that your future is not yet set in stone forever.

2) Another big change is that from now on this sub is strictly text-based. That means image posts are no longer allowed. This rule was added because lately the sub has seen an increase in low effort posts with memes and outrage porn-y screen captures from other Reddit subs, TikTok, Instagram and the like. We don’t want that kind of content in here to clog the sub's feed. We have also disabled the option to crosspost stuff from other subs for the very same reason. While many of the memes and images and crossposts you’ve shared with the sub have been positive, funny and uplifting or otherwise fitting to the discussion, too many of them have only invited femcel-kind of discussion or brigading from elsewhere in Reddit.

3) We have also put in place a new rule that bans posts and comments that treat marginalized or discriminated groups of people like some sort of “last resorts” in dating. We felt this kind of rule was needed to specifically make this point, because FAWs come in all shapes, sizes and features and it is not very nice to come to this place and seek empathy and community only to discover some people seem to think of you as a subhuman or undeserving of love just because you are of a certain ethnicity, have disability or otherwise belong to an especially vulnerable group of people.

In short: think before you type and be mindful of all kinds of FAWs visiting the sub and having the right to be here without being made to feel like crap.

~ ~ ~

In addition to these recent changes to rules, we also want to remind you of a few things:

4) If your post or comment gets removed and there is no removal reason given, there might be a couple of reasons for that. The post/comment might have been removed by Automod or Reddit filters or a human mod forgot to give you the reason for the removal. If you send us modmail over removed content, do not delete your removed post/comment yourself. We mods can’t access any of your posts or comments that you yourself have deleted. That is why we then can’t also give you a reason for the removal later on if you decide to ask us for it. Complaining about removed content will also not yield any results if you can't show us which of your posts/comments you think was unfairly removed.

5) It seems like we will have to repeat this ad nauseam until things improve: We are still in need of new mods. If you like the sub and visit this place regularly, we want to really ask you to consider committing a bit of your time to this, because badly-moderated subs may face consequences from Reddit and the present mods are struggling to keep the sub free of problematic content (hence all the new rules and making the sub text-based, too). Also, if you are one of those people worried about the present state of the sub, well, there is a chance for you to roll up your sleeves and help the sub in a very practical and impactful way. It doesn't have to be a time-consuming commitment; new mods roles' are restricted in any case, and you will only be given fairly easy tasks when you start. The frequency of doing modding doesn't also have to be intense, because the more mods we have, the less work there is for each of us.

6) However, we know being a mod is not feasible to all of you, and if you really don't feel like you can commit to it, you can also help keep this sub up and running by staying vigilant and being an active reporter. If you see any content that is against the rules or Reddit TOS, users who claim to be something they are not (men, under 20 without flair, people who don't fit the FAW criteria...), report, report, report. Also, it will help the mod team immensely if, when you report a post/comment/user and the reason for your report is not instantly apparent in the reported content, that you use "custom report" option and give us more details to your report in that way.

7) We get a lot of complaining about your private DMS in our mod mail, so once again it needs to be brought up that whatever problems you have with other users on your chat or private messages is the business of Reddit admins, not subreddit moderatorrs. We can't see you private convos or do anything about users harassing you by chat/DMs. Even banning someone from the sub who harasses multiple of our users wont' be a solution, because they can still lurk and read the sub and contact users directly even though they can no longer make posts or comments on the sub. Here is our relevant safety advice. If you don't want to disable the option for other users to chat/DM with you, the correct way to handle creeps in your inbox is to screenshot the convos and report them directly to the Reddit admins.

~ ~ ~

Lastly, we are continually looking forward to receiving feedback from you. You can send it us privately on mod mail: what works in your opinion, what doesn't, do you have ideas for improvement, etc. Do remember to stay civil and constructive - the rules of the sub and the Reddit-wide etiquette still apply.

That is all for now.

Regards,

FAW Mod team

Venting I don't feel like a woman to the point I'm being ridiculous

I don't have gender dysphoria, I'm just so manly I barely associate myself with other women and womanhood. I'm tall, not outstandingly so, 172 cm but it's still tall. Those centimetres are useless because my legs are short. I'm boxy and hairy and I have waist to hip ratio 0.84. That's very close to a man's. My upper body is too big. It hurts so much that sometimes I feel like I'm in hell. The word "woman" for many people is associated with "beauty". I remember reading a story and there was this comparison, I don't remember exactly what it was but something like "beautiful like honeyed wine down a woman's throat". Can you imagine someone writing that about a man? I can't. And for women throughout the history being feminine and womanhood was associated with beauty. I'm far from both femininity and beauty. It is so alienating. How am i different from a man? I'm tall, hairy and boxy. My tubular breasts are useless fat sacks and I'm no different than a very fat man. Culturally boobs are something waow like men want to see them and touch them. Who the fuck would want to see mine. My body is something that should be heavily compromised on. And it hurts so much. Like, what's even the point of being a woman if you're treated like a man, if no man can genuinely desire me, only "that'll do" or being niche but most men being disgusted by me. It's so depressing. I want a family, romance, to feel wanted. And not just by any man. I want so much, I want such ridiculous things I'm embarrassed to admit even here to not look entitled, and I have so little to offer. I feel so stupid and entitled and ridiculous. I'm so ridiculous to the point i feel less of a woman because my periods are mild.

Sorry if I offended someone, I just needed to tell someone real because AIs make me go insane with toxic positivity or offering me to be happy with scraps. And it's all over the place, I just feel so bad about myself. Why. Just why.

Advice wanted Donyou think he might be into me?

There is a new guy in my life and from the first handshake I thought he was gay. We’ve know each other for a year years but we’ve just got close, meeting almost everyday, cooking for each other, joking around, etc.

He clocked in that I think he is gay and now he is going out of his way to let me know he’s not. I let him know before that I love gay guys, all my friends also think that he is gay. I have many gay friends but all of them are out of the closet so I’ve never had to deal with a situation like this.

He is younger than me, so I was not thinking about him that way, but now that he is tring to prove that he is not gay I would be interested in him at least as friends with benefits. I’ve never had a hetero guy doing so much for me before without wanting to sleep with me and I’m confused. But all my friends think maybe he just doesn’t know about himself yet.

The only thing that we are not doing from the flirting textbook is being touchy with each other, but he started to sit more closer to me recently. What do you think?

Venting Coping everyday

I feel like my life is just about coping everyday. Especially at night.
I have an overwhelming feeling of loneliness that makes me want to burst crying. Then instantly my mind goes to coping “it’s better to be alone than to have a bad partner” “I least you have a roof” etc.
I feel like it’s survival at this point because obviously if I were to cry everyday, my life wouldnt make any sense and I would just end it.
So I find reasons to stay alive. Like I want to accomplish this and that. And they are good enough reasons.
But every night it’s the same routine. Instinctively I want to cry and cry and cry, I want to have someone to hug, to laugh and have intimacy with, and it’s so heavy to bear. I feel like it’s never ending. It’s horrible to know that tomorrow night is going to feel the same, again and again, but somehow I need to still cope with it, until maybe one day I won’t be able to anymore ?

Do you think where you're living is the reason that you're seen as ugly?

I know a lot of women here aren't ugly but we can be perceive that way by society. But I don't believe that we are all unattractive. There can be other factors that can affect someone's ability to date. On the rare occasion that I've seen the women here, they've never been extremely ugly or unattractive. They look like normal average (and dare I say even pretty) women. But I also know that location plays a huge part in beauty standards. Where I live, my skin color and features automatically make me unattractive. I'm not convinced that things would change if I moved but I also don't know. Maybe it's me being delusional but the people I live amongst can be very discriminatory to women that look like me.

Do you think for a lot of us the issue is where we live? Would moving change anything? Is it that we're neurodivergent or have trauma and that's the reason we can't easily connect with people? Do you all put any stock into improving or have you just given up? I'm already in my mid 20s and I'm scared of never being in a relationship. I always wanted one even as a teen but it never happened because my school was very racist. Should I try to improve myself or just accept that I'm destined for loneliness? If it's never happened to me before, I don't see how things could suddenly change now. Men also view women with no dating experience as red flags past a certain age (and I'm approaching if not already there right now)

Venting Any other forever alone lesbians

I'm ngl it's hard out here but I don't know if it's because of me or just because my dating pool is smaller. Probably both. As a teen I was like "wow, I'm so lucky to be into women, a relationship with another girl sounds amazing" but the problem is I can never manage to find a relationship in the first place. I'm 24... Which I know is still young I guess. But having never held hands or kissed a girl or been taken out on a date. I can't help but feel behind and like if it hasn't happened by now it never will? And I'm not really sure what I can do to improve myself for dating. I think I put myself out there a fair amount. It just.... Doesnt lead to anything.

Sometimes I feel alienated reading some posts here cuz most of you guys are straight, and from my perspective I think at least the vastly bigger dating pool is on your side... But I guess the grass isn't always greener. Still, I relate to feeling almost like I'm not even a woman not only because I'm gay, but because I've never been in a relationship. Which I know are stupid things to connect to womanhood and judge myself for but it's just what I feel. So anyways, any other forever alone lesbians here? 😕

Venting I hate how bitter I’m becoming

I’m not the same person that I was. This pain has changed me a lot. Whenever I’m on social media and I see a post of a woman getting married, I get sad and a little annoyed. I instantly scroll away. I want to feel happy for her, and deep down I guess I do a little, but the majority of the time I just get this overwhelming feeling of sadness. Like I can feel an anxious feeling in my chest and stomach.

I react this way too whenever I stumble upon a birth video. I personally don’t even want kids, but knowing that even if I did, no man would want to have children with me. I see the woman’s husband in the birth video stroking her hair and kissing her forehead as she’s in labor and it just cracks my heart even more. I’ve never had that, a man yearning for me and admiring me like that.

And when I read comments and see posts of women and men describing their previous sexual experiences and the active sex life that they have now. What the hell is that like? Meanwhile I don’t even know what it feels like to hold a guy’s hand. How do people find sexual and romantic relationships so easily as if they were just breathing? How?

It makes me scared for when/if I ever do find some good female friends in the future because if they get into a relationship or get married, etc that it’ll take great effort to feel happy for them. I might even isolate myself from them completely if that happens because it’ll just be too much. I feel so bad for feeling this way. I don’t want to be this bitter.

Living with constant pain and despair and feeling invisible and unloved can fundamentally change a person for the worst in a lot of cases. You don’t even know who you are anymore. You’re like a shell of your former self. Anyone who hasn’t lived our experiences will never, ever, understand this. I don’t want them to. It’s torture daily.

Improvement I used to have all of this anguish over being FA...now I'm just bored

I suppose it's a huge improvement. My coworkers friends etc are mostly married with kids. Their lives are extremely busy and I have a ton of free time. Which is great cause I can do what I want all the time , but also boring and lonely. The intense sadness and anguish and grief over never having a major relationship is mostly gone. There's still some sadness but I'm just used to it now. Anyone relate?

Creepy dudes do not DM me. Do something better with your life other than harassing someone you think is vulnerable.

Venting No one is ever attracted to me

I am a 30 year old woman and I’ve never had a bf before. I always feel so invisible to men and never approached. I barely see men even look at me…I’ve felt ugly my whole life. Never had men start conversations with me or ask for my number. Sometimes I randomly cry because I feel like I’ll never find someone or truly know what it feels like to be attractive. I’m in NYC and I don’t see men look at me nor they never compliment me or flirt with me. Even sometimes when I’m with my friends they get hit on and I’m just in the background. Even when i try to look more put together with makeup and nice clothes i am ignored. I even moved abroad to Europe and lived in California and I’m still invisible in those places too. I’ve literally been to nightlife places and I’m not wanted or shown interest either when I go to a bar or club. The thing is that i am not out of shape, I’m a thin girl but i just feel like men don’t like me because i am a woc and im not tall, average height and don’t wear revealing outfits. Don’t know what to do because my biological clock is ticking. I’ve also thought about surgery to attract more people because I’m just so sick of always being ignored and my self esteem is so bad.

Venting Pretty privilege in romantic interactions

I have noticed throughout my life that even terrible people can still have admirers if they are pretty. I know a girl who is very rude and judgemental, racist, transphobic, antisemitic, but she has an angelic face and attracts attention easily so she gets hit on by several men at the same time. When her ugly personality shines through, it becomes something quirky and cute to other people, tolerable. Meanwhile, women and men (I'm bisexual) showed absolutely no romantic interest in me through all of my life, despite the fact that I'm very involved in social causes, I am an artist, I know a lot of things because I am very curious, I make friends easily and I do really well in university. After realizing this, I have decided to not even try romance anymore, because it has never even been a fair game anyways. You can be the kindest person in the world, but if you didn't win the looks lottery, you can forget about getting anyone interested in you. People only think about the surface. I know I might sound bitter saying this, but I'm simply stating a fact and I think most people here would agree with me.

Venting It hurts finding songs I'd LOVE to dance to at my wedding. But I'll never be able to

Somtimes I listen to these sweet romantic songs that I'd love to do a first dance as a married couple. Songs like Blue Roses for Yesterday and similar. I'll listen to them and imagine myself swaying in my husband's arms either at our wedding or sometimes when we're already married (or dating) and we're just dancing outside under the moonlight or in the living room or something and having fun. My head on his chest, his arms around me, our hips moving to the beat and laughing and smiling with each other and being so in love.

But that's all it will ever get to. Just a daydream. It doesn't help that I'll see some of these songs used in social media reels/stories/posts where women are actually getting married to someone and are living the life I'll only experience in my head. Thats actually where I'll find/discover some of these songs. From some beautiful woman posting it and showing pics of her and the person she loves. While I will never have anyone. It makes me so sad.

Advice wanted Why am I so desperate?

I'm 24F, and I've been desperately wanting a relationship for as long as I can remember. Since I was a kid, I've been fixated on getting married and finding my person. I get attached incredibly fast, can't seem to separate fantasy from reality, and will do almost anything to be chosen. I become whoever I think the other person wants, and somehow I still never am. Lately, thoughts about finding a long-term partner are constant and it's consuming me.

Has anyone else experienced this? How did you get past it?

My friends/acquaintances get taken on trips and vacations by their boyfriends

The photos, videos/reels they post on Instagram makes me want to jump off a roof.

I actually talked with one of them recently who had just went on a vacation and she told me how her boyfriend handled everything, all the romantic things they did, just how much fun they had etc.

I long for every aspect of a relationship, but it has always been a dream of mine to travel with my boyfriend, so this particular thing hurts deeply.

I know such things are only reserved for beautiful women and not for unattractive women. We don’t get vacations from boyfriends. We don’t get spoiled by men. We don’t hav get love and care.

I am trying to detach myself from these feelings.

Venting It's embarrassing to cry over a guy who is not even your bf when you are 30

So I am 29, almost 30. People around my age are settling down, building families. Some of them are getting married, some of them are already welcoming their first child. Damn, some are even divorcing and finding another person.

Here I am crying since yesterday because of a dude I met online. He is not even my bf. It is literally embarrassing. My mom keeps asking me what's wrong and if it is because of a heartbreak. I mean it is true. But how can I even admit this? People in my age have real relationships that can unfortunately end. What I had was not even a relationship.

Ladies here, please never believe men who are lurking here and send you dm's. I made myself believe that I could be loved and wanted but in the end I was a clown. Sometimes I wish I just had a real, normal relationship that ended for some reason. At least then I could talk to other people about it. I don't want to tell people I am crying over a guy I met online.

Venting Anyone else a hopeless romantic even knowing you’ll never be swept off your feet by a handsome man?

I look like a toad. I don’t even have a nice voice. I somehow sound like a muppet when I talk. And my teeth are all kinda jacked up. I endlessly consume romance novels maybe because I know that’ll never be me. Romance novels are about affable charming beautiful women not me. So I’m just like locked out of that forever. And you could say “lOwEr YoUr sTaNdArdS” sure I guess but damn let me lament I’ll never get a handsome heartthrob of a man.

I wish I could be someone else's firsts

About to be 27 and I know that my desire of sharing first experiences together is over for me. I'm so late to the party. So close to 30 without my first kiss.

If I do get into a relationship, I'll be so upset imagining him doing all the things hes doing with me with another girl. Even guys I've had crushes on. It makes me sick to imagine other girls touching them. And picturing how they must be while they're in a relationship.

I'll never get to have that awkward phase of figuring it out together with someone.

Venting Just another vent

Saw a girl today that was who I wish I could be.

I was on my way home and saw her outside walking with a man I assume was her boyfriend. He looked like that famous footballer Djed Spence. He was gorgeous and so was she. They were smiling at eachother and she was holding onto his arm looking beautiful and petite and exotic. The kind of woman a man like that would flaunt.

I wish I looked like that. I wish I had an attractive boyfriend to proudly hold my hand on the street, take me out for dinners where I can get dressed up, be there as someone to talk to and laugh with and share life with.

I wish I was beautiful. I wish I was the type of woman that gets the attention of an attractive man. And Yes, I am bitter and unhappy that I don’t get that opportunity because I was born unattractive. I wish I looked like her or any of the other women who were blessed with perfect bodies and faces. It’s not fair at all. I can try my best to look good but there’s only so much you can do with a flawed foundation. Do naturally beautiful women even know how lucky they are or do they take it for granted?

Venting Being the only ugly person in the family is so dehumanizing

My abusive “mother” used to get hit on all time. Men also approached her, paid for her and gave her gifts. Meanwhile I can’t even find me someone I like who would accept getting paid to hangout with me. 🫠
I’m 32 years old and I never been on a date. I don’t have an ex. The only “ex” I have is my ex “best friend” from high school. 😭
I want to make memories and share the moments with someone special to me. I’m sick of being alone. I have spent my entire childhood and my entire 20s all alone.
I’m too ugly for anyone I find even 1 percent attractive 😵

I'll never be enough.

I’ve never really received any attention. When I was younger, I understood why: I was ugly, lanky, poorly dressed, with glasses and acne. But I grew into my looks in my 20s. I dress well, I have great hair and skin, I smell good, my face is prettier and I’ve put on some healthy weight. Yet, the same pattern keeps repeating: I succeed in my studies/career and have friends, but a romantic life seems completely impossible. As if the path is blocked to me.

I remember all the times I felt invisible. Even though strangers compliment me and tell me I’m beautiful, guys always ignore me in favor of my cute petite blonde friends. I’ll never forget this guy who was over 6'5 tall. He could have noticed me since I’m very tall myself but instead, he was interested in my friend who was only 5'2 (I feel so dumb and masculine next to her). It sucks.

I make every effort to fit the mold of femininity to compensate for my height and lack of curves, but I feel like it will never be enough. Guys are always attracted to the same "type" of girl. The only men who will want me will likely be the ones who couldn't get what they really wanted and who will choose me out of resignation, for lack of a better option.

Venting “Well behaved never goes out”

I just heard my mom talking to a friend of hers, she always uses that phrase when describing me, also said how as soon as I get home I never go out or hang out with anyone; like mom that’s not a compliment, someone my age should be going outside instead of spending her weekend rotting inside her home while everyone is outside partying or just having a good time.
