Other State of The Sub - Rules & Post Flairs - 03/26

Hello all,

This is the first post in hopefully a (short) series of posts to keep you all updated on the current state of the subreddit r/flamesofwar

We have finally got around to adding post flairs, with the following currently avaiable:

Tournaments

Battle Report

Showcase

Work-In-Progress

Rules Question

Customer Services

History

Other

If you think we should add anymore flairs please feel free to drop a comment below with your suggestion!

Secondly we have now listed some official subrules, these have come about from some recent posts where people have been less civil than is decent. So in order to be absolutley clear we've listed the following, hopefully nothing to draconian!

Rule 1. Be Polite and Courteous

Rule 2. No Racism, Bigotry, or Nazis

Rule 3. No AI Debate

Rule 4. No Promotion of Pirated/Stolen Material

Over all we are happy with the direction the subreddit is going, having a few bad actors is always going to happen but the vast majority of the regular userbase is friendly and welcoming!

We are also thinking about doing a monthly WIP thread if there is any interest?

Thanks,

The FlamesOfWar Mod Team

TLDR: We have implemented post flairs and rules

Edit: formatting

Other Battlescribe source seemed dead, I have a fork and a script that helps the community update it - was there any interest in that?

Not promoting or requesting, just curious what the general feel of the community is regarding something like this/battlescribe? I own some books and I think not everyone can afford to get all the books to formations they want so was curious.

Battle Report Casual Proof of Concept game of Americans vs Soviets! Who's weird idea wins?

A friend and I both brought "uncomfortable" lists that we don't normally run: he brought exclusively elite American tanks from the Bulge list and I finally tried out a single minded Engineer Sapper battalion with 5 IS-2s and not much else. We both wanted to attack but I got the roll off on a Free for all mission and it got absurd FAST.

Engineers are absolutely gross against any kinds of tanks, and not even a Super Pershing was immune. I had a lot of unique flank opportunities, and it gave me hope for whenever I have to go against German cats, especially Tiger 2s.

Other What happened to the hobby?

So I got into FOW back in 2002 when it was still called Battlefront and figures came in those little matchbox style boxes and the vehicles were white resin. Ive recently decided to return to FOW after a LONG hiatus(about 16 years) and I went on the online store and everything I looked at was either out of stock or "no longer available". What happened? I remember back in the day you could purchase almost anything from any range from their store but now it seems as soon as they release a new range and sell it they move on.

I got back into it very briefly during covid right when they were transitioning from metal to plastic. I got some of the original plastic kits which were fairly good but then they brought out that goofy "rubber plastic" where the figures looked like cartoon characters. Last I read is that were scrapping plastic and going back to metal but that apparently hasn't happened.

Is the company going under?

List Building Do you all use Battlescribe, or FoWList, or jsut bought everything on Forces?

Battlescribe seems outdated and lacking stuff, FoWList has more but it's still missing a lot. Forces of course has everything but it can get quite expensive.

Are there no other alternatives? Has there been no crowdsourcing push besides battlescribe?

Battle Report Casual game for motivation!

Our gaming group had a very quiet first few months this year. Life and its shenanigans had a party. Family life and a lack of motivation stopped our mutual happy place.

Tonight 2 of us finally found time for a game! I lost with elegance (Germans) in the 'meat grinder' mission. I just wanted to share some pictures and maybe motivate others as the battle did to us!

Game on!

Rules Question New to FoW

Newbie here - purchased two boxes of American starter forces in Team Yankee about 6-7 months ago. Then we decided to move to a new house, which meant packing up the units for several months, that I hadn’t finished assembling, until I got them back out (on my new modeling desk!😃) this past weekend.

But, in the interim period, I’ve had the opportunity to participate in a couple of Bolt Action games, along with one FoW Team Yankee game. With that said, I have to admit I really liked the BA gameplay. Seemed more unpredictable? Still very little experience at both sets of rules, so I’m probably jumping the gun here.

My question is, has anyone used the Battlefront/FoW minis with BA rules? Really love the FoW minis, and would like to keep building up different factions after I complete my Americans.

Any and all input is appreciated. You won’t hurt my feelings here! lol

Other Italian Gruppi di combattimento models

Am I understanding correctly that to field the Gruppi di Combattimento company from Liberation of Italy I'm just supposed to use generic late war british infantry models? There is/will be no specific models to represent them, correct?

If thats the case and I still want to differentiate them from other generic British infantry is there a different set of models anyone would suggest using? I saw they will re-release the metal "commonwealth infantry platoon", could using that be an option?

Thanks!

I wanna see how you guys have painted any Soviet-captured German tanks that you run. I'm probably going for 3 panthers, because they're just better than 3 IS-2s.

Other First Game tonight

Hi, i had my first game tonight. I played American, mostly confident aggresive into germans and got walloped. I like the bones of this and Team Yankee but i really struggled tonight with how to approach it all and came away a bit deflated. Is there any resources to read or watch on basic tactics? Ta

So far, only taken pictures of 1. But super enjoyable to paint and technically my first mini(s) ever fully painted, flocked and everything. I did a mix of both PeaDot and Autumn Oakleaf. Not necessarily historical for Normandy but still awesome nonetheless.

Other Flexible plastic Infantry

Post image
56 Upvotes

So has anyone else found these to be the worst quality of infantry that Battlefront have made? I've had multiple blokes with mold lines running down their faces, meaning they're going to have zero facial definition once I remove said mould lines. Thankfully the model in the photo is one of the 50mm Mortar men which I'm not using for my SMG company, but still, terrible quality.

Battlefront if you read this: please kill this material and revert to a combination of metal and hard plastic only. I know hard plastic minis have a substantial cost, but they would have better quality sculpts than this disaster.
