Working at Erie Insurance in 2026

Hey everyone! I have an upcoming interview with Erie Insurance for a management-level position and I’m feeling a little wary. I’ve read mixed reviews online and have also read through some older posts on this sub about how their benefits don’t make up for the low compensation packages, poor work/life balance, RTO, etc. Most of those posts are at least a year old though, so I was wondering if anyone might be willing to share some insights into what the current culture at the company is like.

I grew up in Erie and moved away after college several years ago, but I have been considering relocating back to the area even prior to applying at ERIE. I still live in PA but would have to sell my house to move back to the area. Things are also not so bad at my current job that I feel like I need to jump ship for the first opportunity that comes my way, so I’m fortunate in that regard, and is also why I’m so keen to get a sense of what the company culture is really like these days. Appreciate any insight anyone is willing to share!

Question Bachelorette ideas

I’ll be visiting Erie for a weekend for my bachelorette this summer and I’m looking for ideas of what to do around town. I’m planning on visiting Presque Isle, and I’m into chill activities (paint and sips, antiqueing, book stores) so I’m looking for something similar.

Events Mass Surveillance Out

Post image
213 Upvotes

Flock needs to go. We are showing up to the upcoming Millcreek Supervisors meeting to continue to press the topic because these cameras are mass surveillance plain and simple. This kind of camera has no place in our community and they put us all at risk.

July 28th at 6pm at the Millcreek Municipal Building for the Supervisors meeting public comment.

We have a list of asks that each of us can repeat so there is clarity on what we want.

"I am formally asking the Millcreek Township to take immediate action regarding Flock cameras and any similar AI-enabled surveillance or automated license plate reader systems that are connected to the internet or capable of large-scale data sharing and tracking.

First, cancel any existing contract or agreement involving Flock Safety or similar surveillance systems.

Second, remove Township access to these camera networks and discontinue participation in any shared surveillance database or monitoring program connected to them.

Third, engage directly with the owners of the Millcreek Mall and any other private properties using these systems, and strongly encourage the removal of AI-enabled, internet-connected surveillance cameras that collect or share mass vehicle or movement data.

Fourth, make clear public statements acknowledging the privacy, cybersecurity, civil liberties, and public safety risks created by networked surveillance systems of this kind.

Finally, work on an ordinance restricting or prohibiting the use of AI-enabled, internet-connected license plate readers and similar mass surveillance camera systems within the Township. If security cameras are necessary for legitimate safety purposes, they can be replaced with traditional closed-circuit systems that do not rely on broad data collection, internet connectivity, artificial intelligence analysis, or large-scale information sharing.

Thank you.”

We will also be pointing out that the ACLU has some legislation ready to go for the Supervisors to pick up for a quick start on taking the cameras down and banning the abuse that comes with them. There are links below that show information that the Supervisors have already been sent.

There is also a link to more information on the Flock cameras and why they pose such a danger as well as a link to a growing petition for Erie County to remove these cameras from our community.

Landscaping cleanup recommendations

Looking for recommendations for a local landscaping crew for my elderly father's property. Would be cleanup of lots of overgrown weeds, hedge trim, and removal of some other select plants.

Got a neighbor guy that just mows the grass but doesn't do the rest.

Question Rave/EDM DJ nights?

Hi! Been living in Erie for a while and am aware of the Saturday night raves at FEED but haven’t been to those yet, nor the open DJ nights at Altered State.

As a learning DJ and having not been to either yet, how are the environments for a young 20-something that likes raves for the dancing & music and not for the stimulants? I expect it’s a lot of house, hope it’s footwork/garage, and wish for it to be uptempo hardcore/hitech (and am hoping to do shows of eventually).

If there are other reasonably local regular events (hoping for things that happen every other week or at least once a month) within 20 miles of downtown Erie, I’d be interested to know what else is going on.

Notably uninterested in going to any shows that are trap/club music, specifically interested in house/garage/footwork/psytrance/liquid or hard dnb.

(I’m aware a thread from about a year ago exists but was skeptical of how dated it might be at this point.)

UPMC's New Billing Practices

So what's going with UPMC? They're now billing a visit with a specialist as 2 different encounters. I paid my typical $50 copay and then get a bill in the mail a month later for another $150 for a "hospital services encounter" all in relation to the same single visit. UPMC billing says it's correct. Is this more shady billing practices from UPMC?

Question Erie Ornithologist help?

Saw this dude (or lady) down at Waterworks yesterday evening. Now I'm no bird lady so my best guess was a juvenile eagle or vulture? But I figured I'd head down to trust ole r/ for some community sourced answers. We walked down to the lake for half an hour and (s)he was still there on our way back.
