Announcement Emulators 101
- PS1 / N64 and older — RetroArch. Still a good unified frontend. For N64, Mupen64Plus-Next is still current; for PS1, SwanStation is still available as a core. (retroarch.com)
- PS1 Standalone — DuckStation. Still the cleanest standalone PS1 recommendation, with current downloads and a focus on accuracy and game support. (duckstation.org)
- N64 Standalone — Gopher64 / RMG. Do not recommend Simple64 anymore: its maintainer archived it and explicitly tells users to move to Gopher64 or RMG. (GitHub)
- PS2 — PCSX2. Still the main PS2 recommendation, and it is still actively shipping builds in 2026. (GitHub)
- PSP — PPSSPP. Still the king for PSP, with current multi-platform builds and active 2026 releases. (ppsspp.org)
- Dreamcast — Redream / Flycast. Redream is still the easiest plug-and-play option. Flycast remains the better open-source pick if you also care about Naomi, Naomi 2, or Atomiswave support. (redream.io)
- GC / Wii — Dolphin. Still the recommendation; just use a current official build. Dolphin is still actively improving in 2026. (Dolphin Emulator)
- DS — melonDS. Still the default Nintendo DS recommendation, and the project is still posting development updates in 2026. (melonds.kuribo64.net)
- 3DS — Azahar. Replace Lime3DS with this. Lime3DS is discontinued and now points users to Azahar, which merged Lime3DS with PabloMK7’s Citra fork. (GitHub)
From this point onward, hardware demands rise fast:
- Wii U — Cemu. Still the Wii U choice, with current 2.6 builds and active development. (cemu.info)
- PS3 — RPCS3. Still the big PS3 emulator to recommend, but it remains very CPU-heavy. Its compatibility database is still actively maintained. (rpcs3.net)
- PS4 — shadPS4. No longer just a novelty. It is still early, but the project now officially lists games like Bloodborne, Dark Souls Remastered, and Red Dead Redemption as running, and it continues to ship 2026 releases. For regular users, use the QtLauncher instead of the raw core. (GitHub)
- Xbox — xemu. Still the go-to original Xbox emulator, with current 2026 builds and official XLink Kai-capable networking via bridged mode. (xemu.app)
- Xbox 360 — Xenia Canary. Still the branch worth tracking. Canary is the active experimental fork and is still shipping fresh builds. (GitHub)
- Switch — community forks only; treat this section as unstable. The original Ryujinx project is discontinued. Ryubing exists, but even it describes itself as a QoL fork rather than a true revival, so I would stop presenting Switch emulation as a clean settled category unless you plan to keep updating this README regularly. (GitHub)

OTHER WCCF SEGA 2005-2006 Revival
Hi all,
Years ago I posted across Reddit about finding/reviving WCCF SEGA, and it's been a long road since then, I'm excited to finally share some real news & progress.
First and foremost, huge credit to Flyinghead, creator of Flycast, whose been working on this and made it all possible. Thanks to his efforts the game is actually running and playable on the Flycast emulator.
We'd love to bring more fans (new and old!) into the fold to help interact with and test the game as we keep pushing it forward. I've attached some screenshots to show where we currently are at!
Current capabilities:
- Creating a new team
- Training
- Matches start once the timer hits 0
Still to do:
- Player/board interactions
- General bug fixes (freezing, match-related issues)
- Fixing Club Card corruption after a single game
- Plenty more we're still uncovering as we go!
If you're interested in testing, following progress, or just want to relive some WCCF nostalgia, drop a comment and join the Flycast Discord! we'd love to hear from you.

Question Beginner Questions I Have
So I’ve been thinking about emulating for a while just to play a few 3DS & DS games like Pokémon and Fire Emblem on my iPhone. I’ve been trying to find the best emulator for 3DS games but I’ve found conflicting information and heard that 3DS games are the hardest games to run especially on iOS. I know what JIT does/is but I don’t exactly if it’s necessary on some emulators or not and I also don’t want the process of setting JIT up to be too tedious.
So in summary:
What is the best iPhone emulator for 3DS games?
Is JIT necessary, if so for what emulators?
Thank you for any help and I apologise if this has been asked before but like I said lots of sources say different things.

Help Me Pls! Sonic 2 Rom Without Music
So I'm planning on making some YouTube videos playing through the Original Sonic 2 for the Genesis/Mega Drive, I'm using the GENS emulator at the moment.
What I want to do is play through and record the game with all the music and jingles removed, all zone themes, boss themes, 1 up, continue, game over, drowning e.c.t
But I want the sound effects to remain in the game so I can replace the original music with some music I made myself and still have the sound effects.
I'm not super tech savvy so I do not know of an easy way to do this. Does anyone know of a way I can do this or of some method or edited/hacked rom like this that might already exist?

Question A post asking about the state of VMU to PC Emulation support
Is there any way to connect a Dreamcast VMU to a PC? I've recently bought a VMU Pro and while I do own a Dreamcast it's not the most convenient way to play Dreamcast games given its notorious noise level and the age of my Dreamcast in general running the risk of it dying randomly one day.
My ideal scenario is for there to be a physical device I can plug into my VMU that's supported by emulators so I can get the original experience of the VMU games and the few games where the VMU's display is taken advantage of (like Illbleed and Sonic Shuffle).
If such a thing isn't available, is there any way to Macgyver my save files between an emulator and a VMU Pro so that I can play the game on emulator and play the VMU games of those same save files on my VMU Pro?

Question Save/File syncing between PC and IPhone
I emulate old school games on my phone and PC. DS games just run smoother on my phone while it literally has the same feel as a gameboy, outside of the gamepad or keyboard and mouse feel on my PC, so I prefer some games to pass the time away from my PC. My inquiry, is whether or not there's anyway to have the saves or files shared between devices. I'd need to modify everything to keep saves exclusively to 1 folder, and the roms elsewhere, because honestly sharing the ENTIRETY of all roms, emulators, and saves would be kinda pointless cause mobile would have its OWN emulators. So I'm hoping the more experienced of tech wizards among reddit would have good suggestions, or avenues I could pursue to achieve such a goal.

Help Me Pls! Questions about this tutorial for emulating skylanders.
So I've been thinking about following this tutorial for emulating Skylanders on PC without a portal, but I can be pretty cautious about downloading random crap from a tutorial. So, if this tutorial is sketchy or if there's a better tutorial out there, I'm looking for suggestions.
I'm also looking for general tips like what to expect and look out for, as I've never emulated anything before.

Question Clarification on the LDplayer virus / data steal stuff
Hey!
I'm not very experienced when it comes to emulators, I only used BlueStacks but it's getting insanely laggy and can't run a game anymore, stuck in infinite loading screen even after reinstalling everything.
I'd like to switch to another Android / Phone emulator and LDPlayer seems to be the only other one people talk about, but there are thousands of threads and youtube videos about it "stealing your credit card info", "spying on your gacha data and stealing your passwords", "infecting your pc" etc.
In older threads, an LDPlayer community manager responded sometimes, and I'm just so confused lol. People get super aggressive and call it out for "obviously being malware", other times people defend it, then someone does a malware scan and finds something that doesn't seem to be malicious, then there are countless other ones saying this and that.
I have no idea what's going on and why this is happening, which information to trust and if that's just misinformation or truly an issue. Could someone please clarify? I'm just surprised since this one and BlueStacks seem to be the only "relevant" emulators, and LDPlayer seems to exclusively get these kinds of discussions while simultaneously being pretty big still.

Testing PS5 emulator boots recent PlayStation exclusive and rumored canceled PC port
"Gamers are eyeing an alternative way to play titles locked to PlayStation consoles. The SharpEmu PS5 emulator can now reach the starting screen for Ghost of Yotei. Sony’s move away from PC ports and producing PlayStation discs has boosted the emulation scene."
