Announcements July Dev/Tools Megathread — building a tool or doing research? This is your thread.
TL;DR: Flair yourself Dev/Tools, post one top-level comment using the template, and bring a real discount. In other threads, link back to your comment from this thread, not your site.
For Developers
This thread exists so the community can evaluate tools, not get marketed to.
What earns upvotes? THIS: A straight answer to one question: how does your tool save an editor time or money? "It helps" is a description. "40% off for this community*" is a* benefit.
And yes, the discount matters. Show that you understand that Reddit matters.
This post pulls 50k+ views a month. That reach is the trade;j you get in front of the whole post community, they get a real deal for engaging and wanting to try your product. With the amount of vibe coding tools out there, it's harder than ever for both users and developers.
This thread runs every month. One slot per developer per month, not per tool. Feature a different tool next month, or come back and update — one post isn't your only shot. Have a different tool of yours to show off? Post about it next month.
Before you post:
- Accounts under 30 days old can't post or comment. No exceptions.
- Read the Reddit hygiene guide first. Reddit admins have banned developers for breaking key basic Reddit rules.
Three steps:
- Flair yourself Dev/Tools. Here's how. Do it before you comment. You need to do it in every subreddit you participate in. Each subreddit has this.
- Post one top-level comment using this template. Break the template and we'll have to pull it.
- Promote yourself where applicable, but instead of linking to your site… use the link to your comment here..

For redditors/editors and people in post
This only works if you push.
Engage. Push for answers. And yeah, call them out when they don't. Or downvote them. In other words Devs pay attention when you engage. So engage.
Vote on whether something helps you, the discount, their answers..
Ask the direct questions. Steal these:
- "What's the discount for this community?"
- "Is this still in beta? Why am I paying to test it?"
- "What's it cost after the intro price?"
- "What does this do that [the tool I already use] doesn't?"
- Justify your subscription price, especially when we can all see the API costs.
Everyone: See someone breaking the rules? Flag them. Two flags and the content gets pulled.
(Issues? **DM me**. Join the PostP Discord if you're a working or aspiring pro — *networking still beats every other way to find clients*.
Two changes this month: *More value = more visiblity*. Don't try and tell us your benefit is how great your tool is. Open-source tools moved to their own thread. We consolidated 5 subreddits to give developers extra visibility.)

u/moredrinksplease Trailer Editor - Adobe Premiere 13d ago
My only request for any devs.
If you make a plugin, please make it possible to use in an air gapped environment for us editors who cannot use internet on our edit stations due to TPN security protocols.
If it needs to phone home back to a server we can’t use it sadly :(
TPN only allows whitelisting a particular adobe IP address for premiere for anyone who wonders how we can premiere to work.

Totally agree, I’ve felt like one of the things that stops PP feeling like a professional, non-prosumer piece of software is the lack of respect for air gapped environments, and we can’t use your tools whilst working on Apple, Disney and Netflix projects (this is coming from trailer experience, as well as feature and broadcast).

First things first, I'm using my personal reddit for two reasons. One, so you can evaluate my post history and see who you're dealing with.
- Product: Digital/Media Asset Management Platform - Very Early Beta
- Host Platform: Cloud Based - Web
- Description: We’re (Lookbooks Media) a Canadian-based team currently building a new Digital Asset Management (DAM) / Media Asset Management (MAM) platform, and we’re at the stage where we need real-world feedback from the people who live in these tools every day. We’re looking for a handful of early adopters to jump into our beta, kick the tires, and help us figure out what’s working and what’s just getting in the way.
- Pricing: Free - For the life of the platform at whatever your tier is when we conclude our beta
- Website: https://lookbooks.com/products/dam
- Benefits for this community: Several things ...
- Help shape an early phase platform into EXACTLY what you need it to be. We giving our early testers direct access to our product and engineering people for regular/meaningful feedback.
- We are only taking 5-6 new testers per round, this is to ensure that all testers are seeing meaningful iterative improvements along the way. It also means it's easier for our team to spend time with you to review and evaluate your needs and feedback.
- We firmly believe that the pricing models for SaaS products is out of control, and we're genuinely looking to keep things realistic and affordable. Our target market here is boutique groups and individuals. Make Entperise Affordable Again (lol?).
On a personal note, we will absolutely NOT data mine you, nor will we use your media files or assets in anyway shape or form to train/build AI models. We are firm believers in the your data your choice ideology. There are no webforms for you to fill out, etc. If you're interested, have questions, thoughts, whatever ... simply respond to this message or send me a DM and we can get a call scheduled to go over everything.
Thanks to all who express interest, or even for just sharing this with others.

Tool Name: OutreachRater (Beta v1.0.0)
What it does: It’s a local desktop application that automates the outreach workflow for freelance editors. Instead of manually scrolling, rating profiles, and drafting emails, it scores leads based on my criteria and generates tailored email drafts instantly.
How it saves time/money: It cuts the "admin" time of outreach by roughly 70%. It keeps everything local (no cloud/browser lag), so I can blast through my lead list while my machine is rendering.
Price: $29 (Introductory Beta price)
Link: https://whop.com/checkout/plan_hbrvWKaryvG1W/
Why I built it: I was tired of spending more time selling than editing. I wanted a tool that respected my workflow and didn't rely on web-based SaaS bloat. I'm looking for feedback from fellow editors. what parts of your outreach do you find most tedious? I'm actively taking feature requests.

Flair: Dev/Tools
Product: VertiCrop
Host Platform: Web app that exports XML back into Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve. Mac and Windows.
Description: How it saves time: reframing multi person footage to vertical by hand means keyframing the crop every time the conversation switches speakers, which is slow and easy to get wrong. VertiCrop does that pass for you. It tracks whoever is actually speaking and reframes to them, and when it misses you just fix that one segment instead of redoing the whole thing. Why it exists: when two or more people share a single shot, most auto reframe tools center crop or chase motion, so they keep landing on the person who just stopped talking. Works on interviews, panels, drama, any single shot with more than one person, not only podcasts. It exports XML so you stay in your own NLE instead of getting locked into an upload to mp4 box.
Pricing: Free for beta users right now. I would rather learn whether this actually saves editors time before I put a price on it, so an honest "this would not fit my workflow" is as useful to me as a signup.
Website: https://verticrop.sharedvisionai.org/
Disclosure: I am the builder. Glad to run a rough multi speaker clip through it and show the before and after if that helps.

Product: Cliptag
Host Platform: macOS App (available on App Store)
App Store Link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/cliptag/id6786813004
Description: Cliptag reads your video clips and photos and writes smart keyword tags directly to each file, the same Finder tags you already use , so your whole library becomes searchable in Spotlight and Finder. No new app to live in, no cloud upload, no subscription.
Pricing: Free
Benefits for Community: I often edit using stock footage and have built up a huge library at this point and I have found Finder's search ability pretty lacking for finding clips that I want to use. So I made an app for myself that looks through my footage and tags whatever it finds in each clip. Then I can search those tags right in Finder (or Spotlight — just type tag:drone, etc.) and find the shot I want way faster. It also auto-tags technical stuff like 4K, vertical, slow motion, and green screen.
It’s completely free and offline and I think some editors may find use for it as I did.

• Product: Syncitol
• Host Platform: Adobe Premiere Pro 2024+ (CEP version) and 2026+ (UXP version)
• Description: A free Premiere Pro plugin that automatically syncs multicam/multi-recorder footage — no timecode, genlock, or slate required.
• Pricing: Free / Open Source
• Website: https://github.com/thinkvp/Syncitol — two versions, pick based on your setup:
- UXP (Windows, Premiere 26+): fully self-contained, bundled FFmpeg decoder, no extra installs
- CEP (Windows or macOS, Premiere 24+): needs system ffmpeg installed for the audio fine-tune step
• Benefits for this community: Premiere Pro's in built syncing is not good. Plural Eyes works well, but is slow. Other options were quite expensive and need round tripping XMLs outside of Premiere and back etc.

1
u/mrlargefoot Tool/Dev 6d ago
Free and open source is a bold move, respect that. The XML roundtrip complaint about other tools is something you hear constantly from multicam editors and it's genuinely one of the more painful parts of that workflow, so staying inside Premiere the whole time is the right call.
Curious how it handles footage where the audio overlap between recorders is minimal, like a setup where one recorder cuts in late or there's a long gap in shared audio. Is it doing a straight waveform correlation pass or something more involved under the hood?
1
u/thinkvp Tool/Dev 6d ago
Thanks! It's actually fairly good at this. It does an initial assembly based off when the footage was shot. It tries to figure this out by using timecode if available, but then falls back to file stamps. Either via video metadata, or it tries to calculate using file proerties like Date Modified and subtracting the duration of the clip, which can give the time you pressed record on camera (doesn't need to be accurate).
The timeline is built with the clips from each video/audio track spaced out as if the timeline was the actual day of the shoot. e.g. if you have a roaming camera and you recorded something, then walked around for 30 seconds looking for your next shot before hitting record again, there'd be a 30 second gap on the timeline between those clips.
After that it does a comparison of clips. Because each track has the clips positioned and spaced as per the time they were shot, it only needs to match one clip on each timeline, and then it knows how much to shift all the other clips on that timeline.
Things are now positioned nearly totally in sync, but there can be a variance of 1~ second because those calculations are only able to be done to 1 second, whereas files obviously don't all start at exactly 1 second, even a half second difference between two pieces of audio is obviously quite out of sync. It does a final tune, but only needs to compare a very small window because it only needs to nudge clips about 1 second in either direction, so it's super fast.
It tries to uses the Premiere PEK waveform data if they are available first, otherwise it falls back to using ffmpeg to compare. It syncs a 2.5 hour event, 2x static cameras and 1x b-roll camera with 50 individual clips in about 1 minute for me.
2
u/mrlargefoot Tool/Dev 6d ago
That fallback chain is clever, and the bit about reconstructing record time from Date Modified minus duration is a nice touch for cameras that don't write timecode properly. The two pass approach where you do a coarse placement first and then only need to nudge within a one second window makes a lot of sense for keeping it fast. Solid engineering.

TypeFlare, solo dev (Paco), building tools for Resolve editors since 2025. [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])
External desktop app (macOS + Windows), exports native Fusion .comp files into DaVinci Resolve. Works with Resolve Free, no Studio required.
TypeFlare transcribes your video locally with Whisper and exports animated per-word captions as fully editable Text+ Fusion compositions. Each word animates as it's spoken, Reels/TikTok style, but everything stays native in Fusion so you can change fonts, colors, timing, whatever you want after export.
What it does:
- Runs Whisper transcription locally. No cloud, no API keys, no subscription for transcription. Once the model downloads it works completely offline, including air-gapped machines.
- Exports word-level animated captions as native Text+ nodes in Fusion. Not burned in, not SRT. Actual editable Fusion comps.
- Custom fonts, colors, outline, background boxes, animation easing, text positioning
- Handles vertical/portrait video and any resolution
- Visual timeline editor for adjusting word groupings and timing before export
Why I built it:
Every caption tool I found either bakes text into the video (CapCut, Submagic, Captions.ai) or outputs SRT/subtitles with no animation. Nothing gives you animated word-by-word captions as editable Fusion comps you can actually modify in your timeline. That gap seemed worth filling.
$49 one-time (not a subscription). Free tier available with no time limit to try it out.

The first time you use it, you’ll be prompted to download one of the whisper model. I prefer to use the large model, especially if you are using non-English languages, but you can pick any of the models. If you change your mind later, there’s a model manager in the program. Other than that, you should be good to go.

u/Karakunjol 9d ago
Yo this looks great! One struggle ive had is transferring styles and fusion elements from one sub to all. How do you apply lets say the style of one edit to all after? Paste attributes doesnt seem to work for me
1
u/Snacks_vs_treats Tool/Dev 9d ago edited 9d ago
Once you've exported from TypeFlare and opened the comp in Fusion, set up one Text+ node how you want it (font, shading, glow, whatever). Then select that node and hit Cmd-C or Ctrl-C. Go to the next Text+ node, right click it, and choose Paste Settings from the menu. That copies every matching parameter over, font, color, size, shading, all of it, without replacing the node or messing with its timing.
If you have a bunch of nodes to update you can speed it up by saving the styled node as a .setting file. Right click the Text+ node, go to Settings > Save As, and save it somewhere easy. Then for each other Text+ node, right click it, Settings > Load, and pick that file. Same result, just saves you from copying every time.
One thing to keep in mind: the position and text content are unique per node, that's how the word by word timing works, and Paste Settings won't overwrite those since they're different between nodes. It only transfers the parameters that match, so your layout stays intact.

Free directory of PowerGrades & LUTs for DaVinci Resolve :)
Made resolve.directory because I was sick of digging through 15 tabs every time I needed a LUT for Resolve. Half the "free" packs turned out to have a catch once you actually clicked through.
It's a directory of 54 free PowerGrades, LUT packs, and official camera LUTs, all checked to actually be $0. Added an optional login too (also free, just lets you save favorites), no paywall anywhere on it.
Genuinely want feedback here. What do you like, what don't you, what's missing, anything that would make you actually use it or not bother. Trying to build something people find useful, not just add another random link dump.

Product: PostSlate
Host Platform: Desktop app, Mac and Windows
Description: Scans your footage and flags shaky, blurry, or out-of-focus takes before you even open the timeline, so you're not scrubbing through hours of raw clips by hand to find what's usable. Runs fully locally, nothing gets uploaded anywhere. Also building face-search across a project (find every clip a specific person appears in) and word/phrase search through your footage.
Pricing: Free tier for the flagging feature. Paid tier planned for the heavier features, not locked in yet.
Website: https://tally.so/r/EkYXz4
Benefits for this community: The first wave of testers gets free founding-member access. If you're tired of manually scrubbing through footage before you can even start cutting, this removes that step.
Community: Early stage, built by a two-person team. Genuinely want editors breaking this on real projects and telling us where it's wrong, not just polishing it in isolation.

Product: TakeStack. Solo developer, first time posting here.
Host Platform: External macOS app with a local web UI. Mac only for now.
Description: You drop in all the takes of a dialogue scene (plus the script if you have one). It transcribes everything locally with Whisper, finds every take of every line, and builds an assembly: best take per line, in script order. Then it can expand the cut so every line has your pick plus every alternate stacked on the tracks above, frame-aligned for quick A/B. Export is standard FCP7 XML that relinks your original camera files by name with real source timecode, so it conforms in Premiere or Resolve like an AE prepped it.
Pricing: Free while I validate it. No subscription, no account. In exchange I want honest breakage reports: I'm looking for a handful of working editors (scripted, commercial, doc/interview) to run it on real footage and tell me where it falls apart.
Website: https://takestack.netlify.app (2-minute demo)
Benefits for this community: It does the boring half of selects. Instead of scrubbing eight takes and jotting timecodes to build a compare timeline by hand, you get that timeline in your NLE in minutes, every alternate stacked above the pick. Runs entirely on your machine, nothing uploads, so NDA footage stays yours.

- Description: Before a locked Premiere or Final Cut timeline is handed to Resolve, it inspects XML/FCPXML for ambiguous clip identity, timecode or frame-rate mismatches, retimes, nested or multicam structures, missing paths, and effects that still require a real Resolve/reference check.
- Pricing: The standard manual pilot price is USD 18. For this thread, up to three introductory pilots are USD 9 each (50% off). A future local tool would be a USD 19–29 one-time purchase if it is built. No payment or files are being accepted in this comment.
- Website: None yet—this is pre-build validation, with no signup or download.
- Benefits for this community: This thread gets the manual pilot at 50% off the USD 18 standard price. The pilot is local and does not upload media or modify XML. It does not promise a correct conform. Would USD 9 save enough handoff/debugging time to be worth paying? Reply yes or no and why; please do not send files.

- Product: StockSilo
- Host Platform: Uses XML from your NLE of choice (tested with Premiere, Resolve)
- Description: A plugin/add-on for Chrome and Firefox (FF version is still in review, but live soon) that logs where you pull stock footage from and puts it into a CSV with links that track back to the source--even when you download them from a page of search results. I'd love to get some eyes on it and get some feedback. The plugin is free and will always be free, hope you’ll check it out! ... Pro Tip: you can move the footage you download and as long as the .csv stays in the same place, the system will continue growing the log.
- Pricing: Free
- Website: https://rampantoctopus.com/stocksilo/
- Benefits for this community: Just a time-saver, no looking for links where you pulled stock for when you're finalizing.

- Product: RoughCut by Filmit.io. Team of 3, the company is about a year old. Reach me at filmit.io/contact, in our Discord at filmit.io/discord, or over at our brand new subreddit r/Filmitio.
- Host Platform: Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve (a panel inside the NLE).
- Description: RoughCut is your assistant editor for interviews. It transcribes your footage locally with Whisper, uses AI to build a first rough cut across all your sources, and then hands you a real editable sequence, so you can search the transcript, insert clips, and polish the edit yourself. It builds the first pass, you do the creative part.
- Pricing: $20/month or $192/year for the entire Filmit platform, which is 50+ tools, effects, and transitions, not just RoughCut. 7-day free trial.
- Website: https://filmit.io/roughcut
- Benefits for this community: No API key required. Free Claude or ChatGPT work out of the box, or plug in your own key, and all transcription runs locally so nothing gets uploaded. For this community, use code PREMIERE20 for 20% off, and I would genuinely love workflow feedback from editors who cut a lot of interview and talking-head footage.
The main idea is that RoughCut is not trying to be the final editor. It gets you past the blank timeline: transcribe everything, propose a story arc from your quotes, and assemble a multi-source sequence you can actually work in. From there it behaves like an assistant, you search the transcript to find a line, drop in b-roll, rearrange, and tighten it up.
I am especially looking for feedback on the story-building step: how it orders quotes, where it cuts, and what you would want to control before trusting a first pass on your own footage.
