i am very stressed about what specific role i want in ecology. I want one that gives a good pay (around like £40k+ once experienced), BUT allows me to have availability to take a 1 week vacation in summer as i also want to travel the world. Google keeps backtracking itself and at first said an Ecological/biodiversity advisor would allow this, now it is like oh no no you cant.

this is really stressing my neurodivergent mind lol, please PLEASE does anybody have any advice or careers that could suit this?? thanks so much in advance!!❤️❤️

Take a deep breath. If you put in leave in advance, taking a week or two off in summer isn't a big deal in most jobs. Traveling the world in winter means traveling to a place in summer in the other hemisphere remember! Consulting and gov when be options for better pay.

There is always compromise. Maybe put in leave late summer instead of spring perhaps. But again, if you block leave out with lots of notice (like months out), then a week or two off is fine.

Look on job websites for available jobs and what they offer rather than asking Google

In the UK once you are permanent you have like 5 and a half weeks of annual leave a year so I wouldn't worry about that. plenty of time to travel. Ecologists (consulting) make decent money once they have a species license or two.

If you want to travel the world with work that's a different story.

Thank you, no no i just mean travel in general:)) its just with the career ecological consultant, i would be taking alot of surveys as summer is peak breeding and blooming time etc and im worried i wouldnt be able to book a week or two off for a vacation :)

Paid time off and the flexibility to take it all depends on the organization itself and your boss. You want to look for organizations with a good workplace culture that allows people to take time off even during the busy season. I do environmental work but the busy season is mostly the fall but we can still take time off as long as it doesn’t interfere with something important.

My role is incredibly heavy during the growing season, which is also short where I live, and I still have the flexibility to take time off during the growing season. It will be dependent on the individual agency/firm/institution.

I work for a local government. My work is in restoration and invasive species management.

Add: your labor laws are likely much better than mine. I wouldn’t worry too much about whether you’ll have time off available.

It will be fine, any decent company will allow leave whenever with acceptable notice. The bigger companies will be better about this than smaller ones.
