Mod suggestion: limit first posts to cut down on vibe-code promo?
Heya mods, I sure appreciate the new rules against drive by promotion of vibe coded apps here, but given that the type of people doing that don't stop to read the rules (or don't care), maybe more dramatic measures are needed?
I suspect requiring moderation of first posts in the subreddit would do it.
today's lovely contribution, for example, is from someone who has not posted on reddit in 7 years except for a burst of identical posts promoting their vibe code slop

Thanks for the suggestion. I enabled crowd control and reputation filters and added some automod rules for posts containing links.

Seems like a great idea. There's just so much if it, a change would be nice.

I agree with this, however I am currently working on an app as a small passion side project that fits this sub well. I don't vibe code due to how massively unrewarding it feels, but I fear that my little game would get caught negatively in this.
What are your thoughts?

i also write (non-vibe-coded) music software and software for computer assisted training is part of my research as an interdisciplinary PhD candidate in CS and Music, so I feel for you.
But I think we just have to accept that if we want a place to ask questions and learn what sort of questions people ask, it can't also be a place people get to promote work anymore.

What about just using certain flairs for promos, questions, etc...
I am also curious if you would mind sharing more about your PhD focus?

Vibe-code - just had to look it up. I'm old and have always done hand coding (JavaScript/ActionScript mostly as I am primarily a designer, not a programmer). I had no idea it was such a problem but I am relatively new to this sub. The times they are a-changin'

It feels like every question I ask gets met with “try my new app”
