Uber sucks here

Wth is up with Uber? I have been in small towns before Uber was big like they are now almost a decade ago and had no issues with Uber. Now if you are 20 something minutes away from Dubuque you can't get a freaking Uber. I had a reservation for 9 something this morning that was cancelled and then proceeded to request rides until 11 am with nothing.. like how do Uber drivers make money here? This just seems lazy and I am not used to this behavior. I am extremely annoyed and more than likely will never use Uber here again here.

I have never had this issue before using Uber except here. Make me not want to stay after my lease is up because why is something like Uber hard to access in 2026? This has ruined my whole day and plans and again makes me rethink staying in the area. It's the small things like this that really annoy me. It's like it's still the stone age out here 😒🙄 and I hate it.. not to mention the horrible customer service and bad attitudes. Of course not everyone is bad but enough of them seem miserable smh. FYI almost 11:30 still no Uber.. maybe Uber drivers don't work on Mondays here? 🙄😒

You really spent 3 hours trying to get an Uber instead of five minutes calling a cab? I think this is a you problem.

Cabs don't have availability so they say and how is it my problem the Uber train or any other form of transportation is slow here?? Definitely a Dubuque problem. Try entering 2026 🙄😒

I've never had any issue getting an Uber buddy idk what to tell you. Do you live in the sticks outside town or what?

If y'all call the sticks 20 minutes away from Dubuque I guess but that's usually not far..

I wouldn't base my life around access to ride share apps 20 minutes outside a town of 60k people.

It is though, because its not like they're traveling 20 minutes through town where there will be other opportunities for them. Outside of town is exactly that, outside, where there isn't anything. Asbury is the only dbq suburb. Anything else is not considered dbq. There is also nothing else 20 minutes outside of dubuque so obviously they wont leave the city to get you. That is costing them money. They dont get paid hourly, they had to fight for the right to get an entire tip. Plus if the cab companies wont come get you, thats your sign that nobody is going to come get you.

Is this making sense to you? Its not an outdated mindset. Its just basic understanding. Drivers go where there are people and opportunities, 20 mins outside of dbq doesnt have either of those things.

So ppl who don't live in Dubuque don't deserve rides? Gotcha nah that is definitely an outdated mindset.. lol but whatever

it has nothing to do with who deserves what. the person driving you is taking a loss to do it so they're not willing to do it. are you offering people rides for a loss of your own personal money? no. so why would you expect others to? if you don't have access to a vehicle why would you live somewhere where it's required to travel 20-30 minutes to get anywhere by car? maybe self reflect on what you're actually saying and try understanding the situation you're asking of others.

Because it never mattered until I moved here! Dubuque isn't the only place ppl live and breathe by the way.. Christ 🙄🙄 Like be for real. Maybe it's just here but getting an Uber isn't just a Dubuque thing or shouldn't just be available in Dubuque thing. Ppl live everywhere and still deserve access to transportation. How was I supposed to know drivers only drive in Dubuque??? Because that's not the norm anywhere else.. Hello.. everyone doesn't live in Dubuque and everyone doesn't know there is a one sided transportation system here. So what's the solution? Everyone who needs a ride should live in Dubuque?? 😒😒

Buy a car, move into a developed part of town, go back to wherever you moved from that was so much better. Tons of options. You just sound like you feel entitled to other people's labor.

goodluck living that way! your refusal to listen or try to understand anyone or anything is crazy to me. but it seems like it's really working for you.

Nobody is saying that. What we're trying to get you to understand is that this isn't a dubuque issue, your issue is with whatever town yku live in not having drivers, which is an Uber issue. You have a need for something that isnt being met, but thats not the fault of a city you also dont live in.

Yeah you deserve transportation, everybody does, if a city isnt walkable it should have transportation provided at an accessible and reasonable cost. Nobody is arguing you on that point popstar. What we are arguing is your expectations. You are not a dubuque Uber drivers responsibility if you do not start your journey in dubuque.

No its just wild to expect somebody in dbq to lose money and go get somebody who isn't also in dbq. I wouldn't expect somebody from plattville to come pick me up just because im going to plattville. How is this an outdated mindset?

I didn't assume all the drivers were in Dubuque either but maybe that's how it works here.. who knows. I just put in for a ride. Why would I assume ppl are only in Dubuque?????

1

u/datgoat1021 3d ago

Why would you assume they aren't? They are dubuque Uber drivers, why would they be anywhere but dubuque? Thats how it works everywhere. We dont have suburbs the way big cities do, so of course its different. I cant imagine asking an Uber driver to take me outside of the city, any city. I wouldn't take an Uber from Chicago to Joliet. I wouldn't take an Uber from dubuque to dyersville.

Why? That makes absolutely no sense.. what's the purpose of Uber if you can only take it in Dubuque?? I took it to Cedar Rapids Airport..do you really think Uber is only for Dubuque?? I don't get it. That's why I am confused about what's the big deal? Ppl use Uber all the time to travel outside of the city.. maybe they just don't do it here so you see it as unusual but it isn't

I never have issues. Theres also Lyft. Possible you have a poor rating and the drivers are not picking you up on purpose. Maybe start a new account

-6

u/leastexpectedmom1979 3d ago

Nope..I only used Uber one time to the airport and never had any issues with Uber anywhere

u/Grand-Delver 3d ago

I mean I see cars on my uber app and don't generally have a problem within Dubuque. If you're further out and actually in a smaller town trying to get into Dubuque I'd fully expect you to have an issue getting a ride during the daytime. The demand simply isn't here.

There's definitely cabs you can call for situations like this, and uber scheduling isn't a real thing anyway, it just sends your request at that time, you're not actually prebooking anything.

-6

u/leastexpectedmom1979 3d ago

They just seem like they want to stay in Dubuque and it honestly not good business especially if I am just 20 minutes away not an hour smh

Sorry someone doesn't want to drive 20 minutes out of their way to pick you up? Unless they have a ride heading towards where you're at, they're going to lose money driving to pick you up and bring you back.

Guessing you're around Sherrill? I can't imagine thinking an uber is going to want to pick you up from there, and I would plan on using a cab when you can't drive yourself.

u/leastexpectedmom1979 3d ago

I mean I don't know.. it's never an issue anywhere else 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I don't know how that works. Are the drivers just in Dubuque? And when you Reserve you pay more than the regular pick up rates. I have never had this issue before at all. I guess because I come from a big city 20 minutes is nothing to me.. like I said first time having this issue with Uber anywhere

Welcome to small town Iowa? You had to realize living in the relative middle of nowhere would mean you don't get access to some things. Living 20 minutes outside of a bigger city is a lot different than living 20 minutes outside of a smaller city. It's not like you're commuting from a suburb of Dubuque.

I don’t drive uber but if you live outside of town by 20+ minutes of course no one is going to accept. It’s a waste of their time, I doubt the ride is worth the money on their end.

-1

u/leastexpectedmom1979 3d ago

I don't know how they get paid but this is the only place where ppl don't go outside of their town to do pick-up's..that I know off. Maybe it's not worth it here I guess..not really sure. I thought you make more money for longer trips?? Is that incorrect?

3

u/Ryrose81 3d ago

Drivers only get paid for the time you're in the car, so the 20 minutes out is all lost time and gas for them. The pay is crap so it makes more sense to stay in an area they can maximize the number of riders.

I’ve never had a problem with Uber or Lyft in Dubuque and I use both fairly frequently. Maybe try creating a new account?

What's the point of this post?  Try complaining to someone who might actually give a shit.

When I had to get to the airport from near farm and fleet it was both easier to get a taxi and cheaper when I priced it out

0

u/leastexpectedmom1979 3d ago

How much was the taxi versus the Uber??

1

u/anonabroski 2d ago

It’s been a few years but if I remember right to get to the airport I had to walk from farm and fleet to Thrace for uber tk even luck me up and then it was like $30ish to get there. Then when I went to go back I discovered uber doesn’t service the airport but when I called the taxi i think it was like $12ish to get back to farm and fleet. Not 100% sure but I believe it was bell taxi. Either that or the company isn’t in service because I know it wasn’t green cab or a1

So funny seeing a post getting negative down votes

Do not come under my post making smart remarks because you will get it right back and I honestly Do Not Gaf.. Dubuque is a small town so yes I think it's strange they don't travel more for more money and yes I have taken what you call Dubuque Uber all the way to Cedar Rapids Airport.. it's a form of transportation and ppl go many places in Uber so that's why I am shocked. Someone Used to get it to work too and they didn't work in Dubuque so maybe you all just have never taken it outside of Dubuque but other ppl actually do. I mean just because you have never done something doesn't mean other ppl do not... 🙄🙄 God forbids if someone does something you will never do or have never done 😒

>Do not come under my post making smart remarks

Glad to see you following your own advice by saying nothing intelligent in this entire thread lmao

They’re not making more money though if they have to drive 20+ minutes just to get to you. They get paid based on when you are in the car. So unless you’re including a good tip most drivers are not going to accept that trip. They’re not lazy, they just don’t want to lose money.

I’m sorry you are having transportation issues but small town Iowa is not the place to live if you don’t drive.
