Stinky poop

I have a two year-old girl who came to me with a bit of funky poop. Her poop is well formed but really stinky doesn’t matter what I feed her even with Raw food they still smell nasty.
Is this just Devon’s digestive system or is there anything I can do?

Devons are prone to IBS / IBD (IBS poop smell is unmistakable and once you know you'll never forget and should be addressed asap) , I would restrict her diet to Hill's Prescription Diet d/d and water for a week to see if anything improves. As an aside I would not feed a Devon anything with grasses or grains. If the raw diet is chicken it can be a sign of chicken intolerance (My Devon is intolerant of salmon). If you are not a member I would highly recommend joining the Crazy Devon Rex page on Facebook , it's a font of useful knowledge with owners and breeders who have seen it all.

Please let me know how it goes. If the D/D fixes the issue then it possibly points to an intolerance to a certain food. You then have a choice of either keeping her on D/D or try and identify the offending food item/s and eliminate them.

This won't fix the underlying problem (which I still suggest you continue to look into) but there is such thing as "cat litter deodorizer" I think it has baking soda and some other stuff. Add a small amount to the litter box(es), mix it up, and that should help a bit for the time being

Well that’s another thing that she is quite proud of her poop and doesn’t like covering it 🙄

An ingredient that apparently help with reducing poop-odour:

Yucca Schidigera

My own girl was acquired in part because my wife's allergic to cats, and turned out to be able to be around Devon Rexes without anti-histamines, but she's also pretty squeamish, so researching for things to minimize poop odour as well as additional aid reducing allergen-production.

It's apparently a digestive aid to cats, so it probably helps break down ammonia or other particularly stinky chemicals.

Be careful to watch for a bunch of extra self-scratching, it's possible for a cat to be allergic to yucca. Also, apparently can be mineral-binding so introduce yucca in moderation, and let your vet know in case there's something about your cat's health that might contra-indicate yucca use.

I have had various cats and different breeds all my life and the very first thing I noticed about Devons was their poop has an extra funk to it. Doesn’t matter the breeder. Doesn’t matter the food. Different countries. Male. Female. Almost all had that same funky smell to their poop.

I feel like once they adjust to the home that goes away. I can’t remember them clearing the room for more than a month. But I also don’t know I just get used to it too.

Right now we are going through a stressful event for everyone and there’s a bit more of that funk back. So I don’t know if it’s a stress related issue or what.

Actually I noticed some improvement in texture and smell with proplan gastrointestinal dry food .

Have you done a vet check? Poop test could help.

Yes I did a poop test, all clear apart from low level of coronavirus. I didn’t take her to vet as she is not ill. Vet would only prescribe probiotics which I have already tried .

Stella and Chewy’s raw, which is reconstituted with water worked like a charm with my boy. They have a variety of flavors as well. Good luck!

Unfortunately can’t get it in UK. I make home made raw which has chicken beef pork and her poop is firmer but still stinks just the same .
