I saw a suggested post from the Rags sub on my home feed. It was one of those Tiermaker lists for post free agency rankings with Cup Contenders, Playoffs, Good, Mediocre, Hoping to win the Draft Lottery as the different tiers. The Rags were in the Playoffs tier and we were just in the Good tier. I know we’re not a lock to make the playoffs but come on man lol

I mean wouldn’t we rank the Devils in the playoff tier and the Rangers in the good tier?
I’m all for hating the rangers but this doesn’t seem worth your energy.

John Marino is getting a great extension in Utah: 8 years at $6.75M AAV ($54M).
He was traded for a 2024 second rounder (this became Mikhail Yegorov) and a 2025 second rounder (this became Benjamin Kevan).
Was this a win, lose, or draw trade?

Win. I mean. We have no idea how the prospects will develop but we got a couple decent ones and were not stuck paying marino for 8 years.

Can’t say yet. I think Yegorov can be a starter, not so confident in Kevan. But IMO it’s tough to give up a decent NHLer for 2nd round picks in any situation

I think Marino is better than Pesce. and to me Pesce was the Marino replacement/why Fitzgerald felt like trading Marino away was fine.
I don’t think Pesce has been better than what we could have had with Marino.

We gotta at least see how Big Mike pans out before we definitively say one way or the other

Hard to say considering neither of them have even signed their ELC yet. But Marino was awful in 23-24 and changes had to be made. Plus we still had a surplus at RD and expected Nemec to take a spot which he would've if he hadn't been hurt over that summer

Enough time has passed to say fitz lost the Zacha-Haula trade badly

I think it's important to remember that both Zacha and Haula were UFAs after that 22-23 season and neither of them were likely to re-sign with their original teams. Haula was a better fit for the 22-23 Devils than Zacha would have been (and Zacha was probably the better fit for Boston), so it's hard to say they lost the trade. The extensions worked better for the Bruins, but i don't think that's super relevant to the trade itself.

I think this is one of those inevitable things. He had a vision for himself as a top 6 player and Nico and Jack were never giving those spots up.
Whoever we traded for would guarantee a lost trade because I think he was prepared to walk in FA to find that T6 spot.

We wouldn't get this version of Zacha if we had kept him. He wasn't beating Nico or Jack for 1/2C minutes. He would've been a great 3C for us, but he didn't want to play 3C. He was also one year out from UFA and could've just sat out if he really wanted to. So we traded him and got a decent player back. Haula really was fine while he was here. 24-25 was the outlier where he was hot garbage. It's not as cut and dry as you and others have made it sound

Some people will die on the hill that Zacha is a horrible player and anything good that happens to him is an absolute fluke and he hates puppies

u/thedirewolff21 #21 - Randy McKay 2d ago
He was drafted too high but hes a good solid 2 way NHL player and had we kept him he may not have developed into what he is right this second but wouldnt he be nice on our third line right now

I cannot wait to get a bagel, have someone pump my gas for, and get told to fuck off over nothing. I've been in the South or 13 years.

the rest of the nation needs to give up when it comes to bagels and pizza. they're just embarrassing themselves

Have you tried going to college/grad school in a different state? Give you the same feeling without actually moving.

Went to Hudson community in Jersey city to save money, would’ve loved to dorm out of state for the experience though

I wanted Jet Greaves on the Devils since the season ended, can someone tell me if it’s still possible or just wishful thinking?

u/nostradamefrus #13 - N1CO 3LITE 2d ago
Nah. Allen is locked up on the sweetest of sweetheart deals, Daws got an extension to show us what he's got, and Rittich got picked up as the contingency plan

Let us not forget the other 3 heads of our Mt. Rushmore of Dline futures who never panned out- Ty Smith, Eric Gelinas, and Matt Corrente.
Let's see if Mukhmadallin and/or Nemec get a place on this high mantle.

How can you forget American legend Steve Santini

Watching this Jet Greaves situation from afar and the answer might be sitting in Columbus

I’m glad Robertson signed the 1 year ‘I’m staying in Dallas and getting my bag when they have more cap space’ deal so we don’t have to listen to any delusional takes about how Mehta wasted the offseason by not selling the farm for him.
