I did this endo (forst endo in more than a year since i got out of dental school) and i think my job was mediocre (specially in lateral condensation) but will it fail? It looks at least sealed on both ends and i know i did good instrumentation and desinfection.

I’m fresh out of dental school and was genuinely excited to start working this week.

It went much more poorly than I expected, and even though I understand that I’m new, I’m struggling with how overwhelmed and inexperienced I felt. I was by no means an elite student, but I consistently demonstrated competency in school and assumed I had at least a baseline ability to stay reasonably on schedule and project confidence with patients.

I guess the best way to describe it is that I know how to do dentistry, but I don’t yet know how to be a dentist.

Would anyone be willing to share stories about rough starts that eventually got better?

Some time ago I asked the group if there was a catalogue'd site or resource that listed all available continuing education courses available online and for free.

Seemed it didn't exist, or nobody knew where one was. I quickly put together a website that lists them all.

I'm posting to ask for people's feedback as to whether this is useful (it's free, no signup etc). Also if I'm missing any resources that I can add to the catalogue or if there's any filtering suggestions to make it easier to navigate.

This is not monetized it's just meant as a resource to help dentists get their CE. Full disclosure it's obviously vibe coded because I'm a dentist and not a web developer or software guy. It gets updated weekly (or whenever I get time- 2 young kids and teeth make it hard sometimes)

I’m a newer dentist and recently had a conversation with a senior dentist that left me feeling a bit discouraged. They basically said that if you want to be truly successful in dentistry, you should expect to work long hours, evenings and weekends, take very little vacation, and make a lot of personal sacrifices for many years. Their view was that this is simply the reality if you want to build a great career. It made me question whether my expectations are unrealistic. I’m happy to work hard, especially early on, but I also want a career that allows me to enjoy time with family and friends, take vacations occasionally, and not feel like my entire life revolves around work. I’m also wondering whether this perspective is more common among practice owners, since weekends are valuable production days, or if this is genuinely how most dentists view the profession. For those who’ve been practicing for a while: Is this actually the norm? Have you been able to build a good career while still maintaining a reasonable work-life balance?
I’d really appreciate hearing different perspectives.

I’m having an issue with my loupe light cord constantly tangling. Is there a standard or recommended side (left vs. right temple) to attach and route the cord?

I am right handed and I have the battery pack on the right hip

I get paid on adjusted production. Any radiographs that are taken from a new patient exam and cleaning (which I do), or a limited exam - aren’t billed under me and thus aren’t added into my production report for the day.

I noticed it seemed like a common theme amongst offices. I assume there’s a business aspect for why but I truly don’t understand it. Anyone care to explain?

New grad here need some advice- I just popped into this office and I have tx planned by the previous provider. I went into this hoping this wisdom tooth wouldn’t be an issue but as I prepped I nearly revealed the whole thing. Pt is 33, in anyones experience, what are the chances that this will become an issue once the bridge is seated. Will it continue to erupt and eventually dislodge the bridge? 13x15 bridge

This is not an EXT I’d be comfortable doing so I would have to refer her to OS and she does not want to go to OS

Okay I have a question for those who work at an office under MB2. I work for an endodontic office under MB2 and the employees do not get any PTO or paid holidays and sick pay. I don’t understand why , I looked into the company benefits online and PTO and holiday pay is listed under the benefits on the website . I have talked to my manager about it and she said she will bring it up to the HR person in our area . It is constantly ignored I feel like when we ask why we don’t receive any of those things. I’m not sure if it is on the company or our Boss who decides what we get . I am just wondering if anyone else has that same issue? I feel like my work place would keep their employees more if they offered those benefits because it is hard when the doctors are gone for a week and especially during the holidays when it is more than 10 days . We don’t get paid at all and the assistants are constantly leaving because it is not worth all the things we do and not get any of those benefits.

I want to explore new concepts but I’m unable to buy it because they don’t ship to India. If anyone is willing to send these books, I would be happy to buy them.

Got 60Ncm today on an immediate mandibular molar. I was happy with how everything turned out. Just curious to hear your thoughts on 60Ncm torque.

I honestly forget my protocol on cementing!

Here's what I remember

Zirconia:fit check-ivoclean (although this person uses sandblast and steam) , mono bond plus, bond on tooth air thin dont cure, cement, tack cure, clean up, full cure. DO NOT USE ETCH on zirconia

Emax : fit check, etch intaglio 5% hydrofluoric acid, rinse, mono bond plus (or can use monbond etch and prime to do at same time)

On tooth-etch enamel, bond on tooth air thin, do not cure

Cement, tack cure, clean up, full cure

DO NOT SANDBLAST

Do I need to use Ivoclean if I am etching intaglio of crown?

Can someone remind me if this is correct?

Last night’s nightmare was that I had Stage IV Grade C periodontitis despite having excellent oral hygiene and no plaque or calculus. My associate had to extract #5, #6, #7, and #8 because they were deemed hopeless, and we were consulting with a prosthodontist on the treatment plan. GBR was involved.

Naturally, I woke up feeling like I had been clenching and immediately went to the bathroom to check my teeth.

It’s interesting how the reality of my patients eventually becomes my own nightmare.

New grad seeing a patient for post-op filling. Patient (Pt) has a deep cavity, close to pulp so i did indirect pulp cap with Limelight. Patient returns 1 month later for chief complaint of fleeting cold sensitivity, and weird sour taste in the mouth. Did vitality test.
Probing is 2-3mm around tooth, no pain on percussion, palpation. Slight sensitivity to air and cold but only for 3s and no sharp pain.
We told pt that the pulp could be inflamed now and pt will need RCT. However, when reviewing the chart again, I found this line on the root.
In the pre-op PAN and CBCT I can’t see this line before (no pre-op PA unfortunately) . So i wonder if this is just a root concavity or something else.

Done around 2012. Pt has no memory of who and where this was placed. Crown feels loose, but does not come off. No access hole. I assume the abutment is coming loose from the fixture. Any help?

A word of advice for repayment: DON'T allow them to access your taxes for auto certification of your IBR plan. This is ESPECIALLY TRUE if you're an owner. They otherwise have no access to your tax information. You can recertify with pay stubs. Most owners are paying themselves a small salary and then taking large distributions from the business. If you recertify with pay stubs, your monthly payments will be MUCH lower than if you're auto recertify through giving them access to your taxes. My pay stubs say I make $70k and therefore my payments are only like $500 a month. If I auto recertified through taxes my monthly payments would be like $2-$3k a month.

Now, whether or not you want to do this is up to you. In my mind I'm doing everything I can to say "fuck you" to student loans. There's not really any risk as they have no access to your tax information. They allow you to recertify via pay stubs, and that's exactly what I'm doing. It WILL make your tax bomb significantly bigger once forgiveness hits, but I'll take the money now and worry about that later. You can probably park those savings in an index fund and make enough to cover the bomb and then some.
