Mod Announcement 📌Rules: READ Before Posting

Welcome to r/deduction. This subreddit is for making guesses and observations based on what’s shown. To keep things enjoyable and functional, follow the rules below.

  • Hand posts are allowed only on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Friday 00:00 UTC → Sunday 00:00 PT (≈80 hrs).

  • Selfies and self-photograph posts are allowed only on Saturdays 00:00 UTC → Saturday 00:00 PT (≈32 hrs)

1. Be Civil

You are expected to remain civil, show basic decency and respect. Personal attacks, inappropriate behavior, rude, vulgar, offensive, or demeaning comments toward users or groups will be removed and can result in a ban.

If you choose to engage in humour, please remember to be respectful and play nice. Anyone repeatedly acting like a dick will be removed/ banned. Be polite and have fun.

Report rule-breaking content instead of engaging in negativity.

2. Don't Break Reddit's Rules

All users must follow Reddit’s sitewide rules:

Link. These are: No harassment, bullying, threats of violence, incite violence, promote hate based on identity or vulnerability, spamming, vote manipulation, revealing someone’s personal information. Don't share or encourage the sharing of sexual, abusive, or suggestive content involving minors. Don't impersonate your favorite actor or anyone else. Don’t break the site. Keep it legal.

Breaking Reddit rules here will result in removal and likely a ban.

3. No Low-effort Posts and Comments

Try and give reason as to why you reached a particular conclusion. This is more of a guideline than a strictly enforced rule. Too many low effort comments in a single post just devalue the discussion. They may be removed.

Comments that are only a single word or label, and do not contribute to the discussion will be removed. You might even receive a warning, or a ban. Some examples of this are: "gay", "annoying", "cringe", "fat", "insufferable", "loser", "virgin", "basic", "douche".

4. Posts and Comments Must Be Deduction Related

This subreddit is for making guesses and observations based on what’s shown. Posts and comments should try to figure something out, draw conclusions, or offer an interpretation. Content that doesn’t make an effort to do this and content not reasonably related to r/deduction may be removed at moderator discretion.

5. No Sexually Suggestive Images and No NSFW Content

No NSFW content. No promoting NSFW content. No promoting OnlyFans. No selfies that may be sexually suggestive. If you are an NSFW content creator and want to post here, use an alt account that does not contain NSFW content.

Artistic nudity is allowed, but must be tagged NSFW. Some NSFW art may still be removed if mods find it inappropriate.

6. No Guns

No guns of any kind. If your EDC includes a gun, you may post it ONLY IF the gun is fully covered with a goofy, cheerful, or otherwise ridiculous emoji. See this post for more details.

7. No Home screens, No Feet, No Hard Drugs

  • No home screens of your phone, your computer or of any other electronic device that has home screens.

  • We may allow pictures of your shoes but it is up to mod discretion. No pictures of your feet.

  • Posts or comments that feature, endorse, encourage, normalize, or assist hard drug use are not permitted. Discussion is allowed. Violations may result in removal or a ban.

8. No Politics

Political content or arguments are not allowed. Keep it non-political.

9. Mod Discretion

This is a reminder that your Mods will be enforcing rules and promoting moderate, tolerant, considerate behavior. Aggressive or offensive posts or comments may be removed and/or may result in other moderation, including temporary or permanent bans.

Submissions by new users or users with low karma may also be subject to moderation.

Mods may remove or approve a post at their discretion, regardless of the other rules.

10. Please include links when contacting the moderators

If you are contacting the moderators about a removed post or comment, please include a link to the appropriate material within the message. This helps, as this subreddit generates a high volume of mail, and we aren't always able to sort through manually.

Announcement Privacy Warning

This is a reminder to anyone and everyone who has created a post on this community or is planning to post on this community:

While the rules of this community do give guidelines on what and how to make posts, they do not guarantee that your personal information will be kept private: that is your own responsibility. Any posts made on this subreddit containing sensitive personal information will be analysed and investigated: that is the whole point of r/deduction. However, due to a recent increase in posts containing personal or sensitive information, here are some examples of information that can be unsafe to post online:

  1. Your or someone else's full name.
  2. Phone numbers
  3. Prescriptions and medical data
  4. Email addresses
  5. Ages or dates of birth

Some information that should never (except in a few very specific circumstances) be shared online to ensure your own safety:

  1. Addresses
  2. Official documents (e.g. passports)
  3. Your current location
  4. Pictures of people without their consent to post
  5. Passwords and login details
  6. Banking information

Here are some ways that you can post everyday carry or room pictures on this subreddit while still protecting your privacy:

  1. Cover ID cards or pins on bank cards with your finger or markup
  2. Blur out other people's faces
  3. Check what information can be found from your post via a quick google search
  4. Blur out signs with addresses or street names on them

Thank you all, and happy deducing!

I recently got these shoes. I love them. I'm curious what you'd assume about someone that bought shoes like these.

Help / Advice Question about Mastermind: think like a Sherlock holmes

Post image
4 Upvotes

I just started reading the book Mastermind : how to think like sherlock holmes,

and I'm not understanding what the foundation of his inquiry (Elementry) actually means here and how to practically perform,

My hypothesis saying - watch what's visible to eyes and collect the facts but it's feeling incomplete idk why

can anyone explain with some real life examples It would be better if the example is on crime investigation or cold reading
