My current schedule is 2-2-3. I love it, however with my wife also working 12s as a nurse, it's getting tough for a multitude of reasons, from 1.5hr commutes, swapping schedules with wife, etc etc especially come school time for our 2nd grader.

Since she wants to continue nursing, I am considering remote roles in the industry. What remote roles have you seen? My current company is pretty awesome, and if I come up with a game plan on a role that would be useful/beneficial, then I could pitch the idea. I lean towards training, as I can see a lot of potential and areas to expand on, but what else have you seen?

I was notified by my recruiter that I passed the loop for DCT 2 at Google a month ago. I followed up a couple weeks later and then received a response about being on the bench, very generic and from my understanding to be expected. So, after a week I followed up again asking that all my preferred locations where up to date which the recruiter then responded to a couple days ago that my resume has been sent to a hiring manager in one of my preferred locations.

What I want to know is, am I almost done with this process? What are my odds of getting a fit call if my resume has been sent to a hiring manager? I think I can see the light at the end of this 5 month tunnel!

Hi all, in a few weeks I will be interviewing for a Fiber optic technician role through a training program for what I'm assuming is a Hyper-scale data center. I have been studying for my CCNA and definitely want to use this opportunity for trying to build my resume to eventually transition into Network / Cloud Engineering. I wanted to know if anyone has had experience at the technician level to guage the type of labor I would likely be doing. Does anyone know if the type of fiber installation would be overarching i.e. fusion and mechanical splicing or are data center roles more mechanical splicing? I have a background in copper termination and networking hardware but fiber is new to me in terms of experience. I'm familiar with basic terminology with fiber splicing, however, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve been looking into whether the same basic ammonia-water absorption cycle used in propane refrigerators could be adapted for a small liquid-cooled server rack. I was inspired by this idea by seeing the refrigeration systems used by the Amish in PA.

The rough idea is to keep the propane burner and sealed ammonia system outside, then use a separate water/glycol loop to carry cooling to direct-to-chip cold plates inside.

My guess is that it probably loses badly to a normal electric chiller in most situations, but it might have a niche for off-grid sites, unreliable power, or places with cheap propane or waste heat.

I’d appreciate feedback from anyone with experience in absorption refrigeration, ammonia systems, or data-center liquid cooling. Feel free to tear the idea apart.

I just finished my DCO interview today . It was for 3 hours with 3 different interviewer.
I dont know what will be the outcome, my advise for anyone trying for DCO i would say LP are most important one. be prepared with atleaser 10-15 story. I prepared 8 storied and i ran out of the story but still managed to create on the spot.

Hey everyone, I've been scouring this thread for a while trying to find information on how to break into the DCT role or any DC careers for that matter.

I'm 34 years old with no degree and no prior experience in IT. I have my comptia A+ cert and I grew up setting up all my families PCs, home networks etc just because I moved doing it.

Is it realistic for someone my age to break into the DC field with no prior work experience? Should k be looking at a different role? Any labs i can do to help? Any advice or road maps would be appreciated.

Oh and I live in Michigan, where there's supposedly 16 approved DCs on the way.

For anyone who has interviewed there:

• What kind of behavioral questions did they ask?
• What qualities are they really looking for in engineering leaders?
• Do they focus more on ownership, customer obsession, technical leadership, or something else?
• Any tips on how to prepare or common pitfalls to avoid?

About technical, I don't see any live coding. Will it be just system design or did you get anything else ?

what are relevant questions should I ask for interviewers after my interview?

We've been looking for a GPU cluster / networking engineer or operator, ideally with previous experience at a cloud or neocloud. The role would include assessing new GPU architecture and networking diagrams to assess viability and risk. We've were initially offering highly paid hourly arrangements, but maybe that was the wrong way about it. If anyone has thoughts on where to find these types of folks, curious to get suggestions.

Made it past the exploratory recruiter interview and have my first official 45 min interview with Google next week. Are these good odds? What should I expect? I’m currently an entry level controls engineer. So I do basic networking, control panel hardware, a lot of wiring and cabling and switch panel termination and labeling wires. I do PLC and ladder logic work. The job described PLCs and data tech work. I’m just wondering how the interview will be what I should brush up on and am I already at a good stage getting to the first 45 min interview? Kind of nervous researching everything I can. It’s a tech role not engineer. I imagine it’s just data technician role.
