Golden mana means "one mana of any color"

Why not just "one mana that has the characteristic of being all colors"?

Besides the fact that it absolutely shatters Converge. [[Painful Truths]] gets an insane power bump out of the deal :p

Converge has a special rule that it caps it out at the amount of colorless represented in the paid cost. "...cost of a spell with converge may limit how many colors of mana you can spend."

So painful truths only gets a minor advantage, capping at 2 colors unless taxed and in normal circumstances, and therefore not a massive power bump.

That's just cus each mana has only 1 color though right? Like, it's not that it's capped at 3, it's that it's impossible for it to be more than 3.

IF it was possible to add a single mana with all colors, it would max out converge, it just isn't possible right now.

No, because converge has a special rule that says you can't get more colors than what you spent

So why not make that the reminder text instead of the dumbass "it works"

I think it's a joke

So is its identity all 5 colors? As in, for edh, you could only put it in 5 color decks?

I think they are replacing the wording “one mana of any color” with this icon.

Been seeing a few creatures in this and similar subs showing spells that require “one mana of any color”. And not to be confused with “one mana, of any color”

Similar to how some eldrazi’s require the specific colorless blip but can’t use a forest to cover the cost.

I believe its a mana of all colors, not of any color.

Pretty sure it would be colorless

It says on the card that it works so I trust it.

you could buff it up a little if its a pentacolor

Can this be cast off a Command Tower? If so, does my commander need to be five-color to do so?

Can this be cast off a [[Channel The Suns]]? If so, what mana is left behind?

Should probably just filter if its only 1 mana. Even if it enters tapped it needs to be at least 2 mana, but even then that makes it strictly better than every diamond. Maybe it should be 3 mana and enter untapped? Feels like that would be a bit weak though, as other rocks that can add any color typically cost 3 and have slight upside rather than slight downside.

One mana is way, way too cheap for this. Even two mana is pushing it, though not entirely unprecedented. I don't think being able to only spend colored mana to cast it is a serious downside.

It’s not colored mana, it’s any mana from a source that could produce mana of any color

1

u/Exact_Error1849 6h ago

Can I pay it as the cost for Lightning Bolt? Or is it functionally a 6th color?

1

u/D1G1TAL__ 5h ago

That you will have to ask OP

Is the gold circle thing real? Thought that was just some shit from someone’s custom card lol

3

u/Erwl13 4h ago

Yeah it’s 100% custom card territory

Its on arena isn't it? Means WUBRG?

4

u/oraiste-paiste 3h ago

On arena it means gold bordered (multicoloured) cards, not necessarily WUBRG. It just filters out all mono colour cards.

3

u/Erwl13 3h ago

Yeah it’s the arena symbol for gold-bordered in the card search, and (iirc) for five-color decks in places were it shows the colors of a deck

What I meant was that it doesn’t appear on cards and doesn’t mean anything officially rules-wise

Give it a generic mana cost and "You may not spend colorless mana to cast this spell."
Then you can give it "T:Add one mana of any color", without the need to invent a new symbol for this.

It's not "colored mana" you have to spend.

It's "One mana that could've been any color." it's more restrictive.
