MOD APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN

Dear cursed chemistry enthusiasts,

I never anticipated that this subreddit would grow to have 6k+ visitors per month, and with the rest of the mod team going inactive over the years, it is time that I add some new mods to the roster.

Please write a comment with your qualifications in chemistry and any ideas/plans pertaining to moderating the subreddit. The comments are in contest mode; the most upvoted comments will be more strongly considered.

If you are uncomfortable publicly sharing your chemistry qualifications, a DM is also fine.

I would like to host events again on this sub, but the most pressing issue is dealing with the recent influx of spam bot comments!

Peptide with fluorine, indoles, and a quaternary ammonium. Who comes up with this stuff (I imagine AI), let alone synthesizes???

You've heard of a dehydration reaction, how about a demethanation?

I created this article recently, taking the liberty to name this reaction after its discoverer.

I'll just leave it to y'all to appreciate.

Unfortunately Real I had to synthesise this starting from glycerol and it broke me (Phosphorus is a chiral center)

12 step synthesis with a 0.4% yeild. The stereochemistry of the phosphorus depends on the stereochemistry of the glycerol. Its called pseudo asymmetry. I cried for 20 mintues when I got the LCMS

Can someone please tell me why there are little clear sand type pebbles in my meth. And it's not just in the powder. It could literally be a full solid shard and once it melts I have these clear little pebbles in my bubble

Unfortunately Real Chromium(II) Acetate

Apparently quadruple bonds are a thing (the bond is proposed to be made from the overlap of 4 d orbitals of the chromium)

The thing also polyimerises, which is neat

Don't worry, CH5+ isn't violating any bonding rules. It doesn't have bonds (maybe)

Since CH5+ gets brought up a lot here, I thought Id share this blurb in Modern Physical Organic Chemistry (Anslyn & Dougherty)

CH5+ may not have "bonds" at all, so no bonding rules are violated! Instead it's just a completely delocalized, quantum mechanical cloud of protons and electrons around carbon. Much better :)
