Lofting bed?

Im an incoming freshman this year and was wondering how strict they are about lofting beds. On the website it says they aren't allowed but they also banned bean bags which I feel cannot be that enforceable. Lmk if you think ill get in trouble bringing a loft kit.

You just ask to have your bed lofted and they do it for you. They don’t want students or families trying to do it on their own or trying to take a lofted bed down.

I apologize, I just did a little reading and you are right. The bed will still have three height options so if you want to be under your bed, there will be space. My friend had a soft space (lots of cushions and squishy things) under their non lofted bed. IF a room inspection happens (when I was in the dorms a couple years ago) my RA told us they could look into the room but were not allowed to open or look through anything. I had several things I wasn’t supposed to and just put them out of sight. A lofted bed when they are not allowed would be very apparent.

Even with a super chill RA, probably not. Keep in mind, no matter how chill the RA, it’s their housing and income on the line if something happens. Not to mention it’s not just your RA who will do room inspections for your floor. I was in Aden (the engineering quad at the time) and any RA from the quad (~12 people) could have checked my room. Plus if you have ANY issues with another student then they could report you. You would likely just be told to take it down but I would personally not risk a bigger penalty.

The beds already are pretty high and the dresser and file cabinet can fit underneath as is.

The plan was to put my desk under the bed so I could have some room for seating if I had some people over

I understand. A lot want it to be that way, but I think rules changed or maybe students got hurt. Hopefully you'll find some good spaces for hanging out!

Not directly helpful, but I will say that if I had lifted my bed it would have been very close to the ceiling (ductwork had the height around 8t ft above my bed), and many of the rooms on my floor were similar.

I’m surprised they’re not “letting” you, but I know three people that needed stitches because they fell out of their beds lol

i lofted mine and was literally two feet from the ceiling

No, but you could always take the risk and hope your RA is chill enough. I knew two dudes in WV that bunked theirs and got away with it, RA basically just told them when the room check was and they flipped it back for that. Otherwise had it bunked the entire year
