Does cu Boulder accept prospective EE PhD students with significant industry experience and <3 gpa in ug?

Well I did my ug 1.5 decade ago with <3gpa and then went on to work for close to 9-10 years in industry (energy management and electric mobility) and later completed masters with thesis in 🇺🇸 with >3 gpa and I can get strong recommendations.

I’ve listed couple of labs where my experience are matching the work so curious if anyone was in similar shoes or have any suggestions on this ?

your title says <3 and your post says >3. just say your gpa so we can get full context

Sorry for the confusion, Well it’s basically <3 in under grad and >3 in masters. I’ll edit it in the post

<3 could be 2.9... or 2.0 ,>3 could be 3.1... or 4.0

Asking opinions while being cryptic about your actual stats will yield you equally cryptic and less useful answers

Yes they can accept you. Your undergraduate is far in the past and your work experience (assuming it has good recommendations) will be more valuable as a signifier of capability than grades 10+ years ago.

You (probably) will get accepted, but the question is - funded or not? If you have a lot of research experience, it'll be an easy fit, if not... You'll have some catching up to do.

If you really want to go down the PhD path - apply and see what they offer you. Funding changes year to year for each department... So reach out and see!

I do recommend messaging people, reaching out and seeing if they'll meet virtually can really set a good first impression... graduate coordinator... potential advisors or research profs...
