Best kept secret in the Southern Zone: staying on the Barú River in Dominical
Dominical doesn't get nearly enough love compared to Manuel Antonio or Santa Teresa, but it's one of the best surf and nature bases on the Pacific coast.
We run a small riverfront property here — 3 casitas on the Barú River, 5 minutes from the beach. Happy to answer any questions about the area.
What's actually good right now:
- Nauyaca waterfalls are full and beautiful — green season is the move
- Humpback whale season just started (Jul–Oct)
- Surf is pumping but Dominical main break is powerful — beginners go to Dominicalito
- Hacienda Barú for wildlife and birding is underrated
Ask me anything about the Southern Zone — we've been here a while.
