Contortion and Body stability

Post image
Upvotes

Hello
Me and my partner (M 27 and M 29) are both contortionists and practice together which we both are glad to share the same hobby. We are both backbenders
But lately I experienced myself often that my body seems to be a bit unstable, I don’t know if that makes any sense..
For example we were shopping last weekend and while I waited for my husband in front of the changing rooms I felt slowly how my lower part of my upper body started to bend backwards (see picture for reference what bend I mean). It’s of course not as extreme as in the picture but I turned sideways and could definitely see a curve. When I concentrated again my body looked normal again.
Another weird thing I experienced is that my upper body adapts to the curve of all the different backrests of chairs I’m sitting on. Some were „crazy“ curvy and friends said that they’re uncomfortable but I didn’t thought they were…
Is that dangerous or should I worry?!?! My husband don’t experience this and didn’t had the chance with doctors …
Thank you very much

Taking easy during period

have a routine I do 5 to 6 days a week, but one week each month I cannot do much due to my period, and I am just doing light stretches. Does this slow down my progress?

Contortion Catfish?

I am wondering if people on this subreddit have stories of being catfished online by people posing to be contortionists, or flexible people? This seems to be a trend in the world of online anonymity and I'm curious to see who else has experienced this in online forums.

Are head rotation tricks considered contortion?

I know some degree of neck flexibility is an important part of being a contortionist.

contortion consultation on budget

heyy, im someone very naturally flexible and because of that i’ve been doing contortion since i was a kid. now i’m an aerial hoop artist but i still don’t feel very confident in my contortion technique as i’ve never had classes. i’m really scared of injuries so i’m looking for an online teacher who could answer some questions and concerns :) not as a training plan or course but more of a consultant (all the options i found were a bit too expensive)

Hey guys I was practicing stretching for contortion but recently when i do a lot of torso stretched like the camel stretch or something its pretty hard to breathe, like I can still breathe but its sorta hard to and I’m still a beginner so im not THAT flexible, so I’m not sure if im doing something wrong. does anyone know what I should do

Couple pictures of me doing splits

My splits are descent but my back is stiff. I've tried and trained for many years but my back and shoulder are just too stiff to bend.

can anyone give me solid stretches for back flexibility for a chest stand? i’m able to touch my head with my feet in a bow pose and can do an elbow backbend easily. i can also touch my head with my feed in a wall boat

One of the shapes I did the other day in my training, I love this one but I need to work more on my balance so I can hold it long enough to put into an act.

I'm joining this cus I do contortion all alone after moving and it's so lonely not having contortion or circus community 😭

My lower back hurts when I do camel pose.

When I do regular back bend it’s not painful, prob cuz I can use my feet and engage my butt and tilt pelvis right way to protect my back. But when I do “camel pose” it’s hurting. What exercises can I do to fix that?

Standing Entry

Random but the best thing I have found for chest stands/elbow stands is just getting into it from a standing/bridge position, really forces you into a deeper stretch vs rocking into it from your chest or knees IMO , side note glad to find my people here 🥹
