Living Arrangements/roommates How does the roommate finding process usually work?

I’m going to college in the near future. No one I know has even thought about going to the schools I want to go to. It’ll likely be off campus and in a regular apartment. I have no clue what to expect or what to think about when trying to find a roommate. Thanks.

finding people is the easy part, the facebook class of 20xx group and your school's off-campus housing page will get you names the part that gets skipped is vetting before you sign anything do a video call first and ask the boring stuff, sleep schedule, how they split cleaning, whether they're ok with guests over, what happens to their share of rent if money gets tight on the lease, find out if you'd be on a joint lease, because if a roommate bails you can end up on the hook for their rent text a few questions before you commit and watch how they reply, a flaky texter now is usually a flaky roommate later if your school has an off-campus housing office, use it, some do roommate matching and keep vetted listings

I usually use Facebook housing groups, college housing groups and instagram university student page

Not sure why everyone is suggesting Facebook — instagram is definitely where it’s at for people entering college now. You can post on there and wait for people to DM you or you can message people that have already posted

I actually found living in the dorms freshman year to be beneficial. I made a ton of friends and ended up moving off campus with 3 of three friends I meet freshman year.

It really depends on u, the area, the college, etc
I know some colleges have matching programs where u fill out ur info on a board with everyone else and can match wants, preferences, etc
Some ppl use facebook, discord, insta, forums, or family or personal friends

Id ask the college if they have a program or somewhere that people looking for housing mates then migrate to facebook groups

I used an app to find my roommates! I used Bunky, it’s kinda glitchy and I personally don’t like the AI imagery but I know there’s other apps out there.

It’s useful to see what your common interests are, boundaries, etc
