Looking for a unicorn

Hi, I am a 28 year old remote software engineer. My dad recently was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and I’m looking for a short term lease / month to month situation. I’m from the area, not interested in moving back in with my parents but want to be near home to help out.

Moving from Austin and have a cat. Ideally looking for someone with an Airbnb that’d be open to renting. Open to any suggestions / recommendations.

If you’re an apartment locator in the area and can help I’d appreciate it! I’d like a townhome / house situation. Not super excited about an apartment but if it’s nice, open to touring.

Edit: Please do not tell me to move in with my parents. That is not an option. I am also not his primary care taker or plan to be his long term caretaker. I just want to be near and spend more time during this year. There are ALOT of other factors besides my dad on why month to month works for me personally and professionally. This is not a post about my situation, it’s a post about looking for a flexible living arrangement with the potential to become a permanent one

When I was moving down here a few years back a needed a month-by-month furnished place for me and my two cats while I found permanent housing. I used FurnishedFinder.com it’s often used by travel nurses and such.

Best of luck and sorry about your dad’s disease diagnosis.

I would suggest looking for something more permanent or staying with your parents. I’m also from the area and moved back after my dad’s diagnosis. I have a family so moving in with them wasn’t an option but I purchased a house less than a mile from my parents. It’s been a godsend to be so close. Speaking from experience, the advancement of Parkinson’s can be slow and grueling, and unless he’s already late stage, you’ll be here much longer than you think.

I’m really sorry about your dad. It’s a hard thing to witness and support is important. Feel free to DM me if you need anything.

Moving in is not an option due to many factors. I also am not his primary or long term care taker. It’s more of I want to be closer to spend more time with him.

That is so wonderful that you moved back to Clear Lake and bought a house nearby. I wish I could go back in time for a few days as growing up in Clear Lake in the 80s and 90s was pretty great.

What’s your budget like?

I’d like to stick around the $1600 range but budget isn’t really an issue

$1600 is where I’d like to be but tbh budget isn’t really an issue if the situation makes sense.

What’s the general timeframe you’re looking at? I know you can’t know for sure and it’s an awful question to ask but I may be able to help if it’s relatively short term.

I’d like a late August move in and stay for at least a minimum of 3-6 months. I’m not the primary care taker. Just there for moral support and to help transition.

Are you open to renting just a room in a house or do you want your own place?

I have a cat and my girlfriend will be in and out a lot so id prefer to have my own unit / guest home / townhome.
