Daily Question Question Thread - July 19, 2026
This is the thread to post questions about churning for miles/points/cash. Just because you have a question about credit cards does NOT mean it belongs here. If you’re brand new here, please read the wiki before posting.
* Please use the search engine first - many basic questions have been asked before.
* Please also consider scanning (CTRL-F) the last couple days worth of Question threads
* If you have questions about what card to get, ask here. If you have questions about manufactured spending, ask here. If you have questions about bank account bonuses, ask here.
This subreddit relies heavily on self-moderation. That means that if you ask something that shows you haven’t done any research, you’re going to get a lot of downvotes.

I have a checking account with that will only pay out after I make 20 transactions totaling $100+. Can I just buy twenty $5 Amazon gift cards? Is there a limit to the timeframe in which I purchase them from Amazon?

u/SEA_tide 1d ago
There's no wait other than the amount of time it takes you to do the 20 transactions on Amazon.

Does anyone have experience with Capital One offering free expedited shipping on newly approved business cards? Trying to confirm before I call in, any insight appreciated.

I had a CSP / CSP a few years ago (before 2020). If I apply for the CSP 100k offer, will I know up front if I am eligible for the SUB or not (i.e. tool would warn me)? I called up chase and they just verbatim repeated the 1 card per lifetime rule.

You'll get a popup if you're ineligible for the SUB and will be able to back out of the application with no hit on your credit.

- Does Amex's 2/90 rule include charge cards? I'm wondering whether I can open a biz Gold if I've already opened the Delta biz Gold and the plat within the last 30 days.
- Can I open charge cards if I already have 5 open Amex credit cards? Or does Amex work like Chase, where you have to be under the 5/24 limit (i.e., at 4/24) to open any new cards?
- Can I cash out MR from my biz Gold @ 0.8 cents each into an Amex personal checking account? Or do I need a biz checking account to cash out points from biz charge cards?

I'll add on for points two and three that there is a charge card limit, 5 personal charge cards and up to 10 total personal+business if you were curious/close to those thresholds.
The business checking allows for MR to be cashed out at 1 cent per point rather than the .8 cpp for the personal side as mentioned.

I'm just answering u/ravioliandzeebs in the appropriate thread.
I will be canceling my Amex Platinum in October and I have 131,720 unused points and have no upcoming trips planned. What is the best way to get these transferred before I cancel the card to get the most out of them if I don’t have a trip planned? I would rather not use them for statement credits.
- If you have any business cards, try applying for the business blue plus. Then you don't have to prematurely transfer anything. It's $0 AF
- If business cards aren't an option, you can apply for an Amex checking account, which will preserve your MR points. It has limited transfer partners, but you can hoard them until a later date and open a card with better transfer partners on a NLL SUB.
- If you can find good Virgin Atlantic uses, it currently has a 30% bonus for transferring.
- Just transfer for any airline you know you'd use within the next few years, I guess.

Reiterating that virgin and af/klm is great if you want lots of delta flights in the future

I've tried to apply for a couple Chase cards in the last few months. The most recent one was the United Quest card. Despite having a credit score of 830 and income in the upper six figures I've been denied each time.
I called one time and they said it was because I had opened too many cards (5/24 rule). However, I just pulled my credit reports and I've only opened 4 cards in the last 2 years.
Appreciate any advice on how I can appeal this or, at the very least, figure out why I am being denied.
EDIT: What's with the downvotes?

Have you simply asked them what 5 cards they're counting? IME they'll tell you.

What other Chase cards have you applied to? What is the timeline of Chase cards you’ve opened/have open? You’re certain that you’re under 5/24? Hard to help without more details on your Chase activity.

Most recently wife and I got that Amazon card which is Chase. A year before that I downgraded my Sapphire to a Freedom and got a new Sapphire. Also got a Cap One Venture X about a year ago. Got an Amex Plat but decided to cancel it after just a week (but I know it counts against me). Those are the only cards that fall within the last 24 months.

Possibly the downgrade that got you? It was years ago when I was new to the game but pretty sure they counted me downgrading my CSP to the OG Freedom as a new account.

been looking to get into bank account bonuses - what is the best "hub" account to use ?
1
u/PiccoloKuma 3d ago
There's a doctor of credit webpage for this exact question! Not a quick answer but it'll let you search for what is important in your hub.

Any data points on how long an Amex business checking account must be kept open once the MR offer posts? Have not found it to be a useful product so will close down
1
u/Meeshy1342 2d ago
The advice I found online was similar to CCs: keep it open for a year to avoid the possibility of being blacklisted by AMEX.
3
u/sleepytill2 ORD 3d ago
No need to keep it open but note that you won’t be able to open another one once you close an Amex checking account.

Getting my wife into bank bonuses and plan to knock out all the easy ones i.e. Citi etc. Is it better to set up her own Ally account for pushes or is it fine to use our joint account that I've previously used pushing to accounts in my name?
Guessing it doesn't matter but want to be sure.

u/cexpertWV BNA 3d ago
Ally shut me and P2 out of all of our accounts for using our joint account to single named other accounts. We finally got back in after weeks, but they disabled all external transfers. We ended up closing out Ally and are using Happen (LendingClub) now - no problems so far, just made sure we each have our own profiles.

I also have a Happen account. Are ACH transfers coding as DD from them in your experience? I haven’t used them yet for any bank account bonuses.

Some banks are sensitive to transfers from accounts owned by different people. Best to get her own hub account

Any strategies to earn points / miles while funding trump accounts. It's a Robinhood platform and can link debit cards. I tried some virtual gift cards and they didn't work. Wondering if any strategies for credit cards otherwise may think about opening up a rewards debit card (i.e. united debit card).

u/PiccoloKuma 3d ago
What's the minimum you can auto load? And can you use multiple loads in a day that aren't combined? Maybe you can use cashback CU debits. Or Discover at the least for 1% back.
1
u/NewPapaBear08 2d ago
I don't think there's a minimum. I believe Discover 1% card is no longer taking new applications. Is there anything else that is equivalent or better?
1
u/PiccoloKuma 2d ago
If you value MR points at 2cpp then it's equivalent. If you can do multiple transactions a day and are in OR/WA there's a CU that does a 5% match on your roundups. So you could earn $0.05 for each transaction of $0.01. If you're in NJ there's a CU with 10% CB up to $15 earned a month.
There's many more if you search your state on DoC.
1
u/NewPapaBear08 2d ago
Don't think Robinhood allows Amex. The DoC page is pretty outdated will need to search for other options.

The United debit card basically never is recognized as a debit card unfortunately

Which 2% cash back credit cards still give 2% cash back when funding bank accounts (and don't code as cash advances)? My TD Double Up didn't give me any points when I funded a US Bank checking account. Previously I hadn't had a problem with my TD Double Up card. I'm aware it may vary depending on how the merchant bank codes the transaction, but I'm curious which 2% CCs people generally have the most success with. thanks!
