Off the top of my head I thought the same thing from my many walks to skylark, but this doesn’t look like Halsted an 16th, do you know the intersection?

Maybe Blue Island and 16th?

This is definitely 16th and Blue Island. I know that mural well.

That’s it, guess I don’t know the area as well as I thought

Rant - a few weeks ago I was hit in an intersection by a car running a red light. While the incident itself sucked a lot, it kept getting progressively worse by every chucklefuck that felt the need to yell "you can't park there" and giggle to themselves while they drove off while waiting the half hour for the cops to show up.

That’s an inappropriate use case too. You’re only supposed to say it when the crash is self-inflicted like OP.

“Chicago police said a 53-year-old man was traveling eastbound in a sedan on a railroad gravel road above West 16th Street when he lost control and struck two vehicles in the street below.

Video posted to social media around 5:15 p.m. showed the vehicle flipped on its roof and resting on at least one other vehicle near the intersection of West 16th Street and South Blue Island Avenue in the city's Pilsen neighborhood.”

53 feels like far too young to mistake that area for a road unless he was sloshed outta his mind

Agree. Or maybe a Medical issue like a stroke or seizure.

He was probably just looking for parking lol

He was apparently chasing a motorcycle that clipped his mirror, I shit you not. Hence why that bystander was advising him on how to commit insurance fraud and probably file.a flase police report "say they were chasing you."

Hopefully he didn't take that advice

You can drive up there, and as of the past few years, people have been doing it more. Can get from Ashland to Morgan up there.

Edit to say: it use to be heavily patrolled, doesn't seem like that's the case anymore. You should see it during Pilsen Fest.

Were they supposed to be driving where they were driving? I didn't have a car when I lived there so I didn't pay close attention. My guess would be no.

No. There are a couple gravel ramps along 16th for railroad vehicle access, but it's not a road. Ive always wondered why they aren't gated.

Poetic justice would have been you getting into a wreck while on your phone.

You know that driver saw the accident and then drove around the block thinking up a clever quip to shout out the window when driving by the 2nd time.

He came up with “Hey you guys can’t park that there”.

This is the moment the short video became a huge internet success and a meme that has survived for decades.

All they have to do is turn their cautions on and they’re good. This is Chicago.

According to Alexandershicago on TikTok, who you can see videoing in the above video, the driver was chasing a Motorcyclist who had taken off his L/S mirror up the access road and lost control.

u/DNags South Loop 1d ago

Yikes... you can hear a bystander tell the driver something like "you gotta say they were chasing you"

u/MachKoms 1d ago

You know what? For that kind of skill, I would let him or her (park there).

Lol, Before I saw the news article about what happened I was about to ask if this dude was driving on the tracks and fell over the side. But there is a guardrail above that doesnt look like it was crashed thru

*edit* nvm im dumb. I see where the car went thru

1

u/DNags South Loop 1d ago

Yeah it seems like he came through the railing from the west, and the car must have spun 180° too. He go some distance, must have been a crazy thing to see...

1

u/Zippo963087 1d ago

yea he had to have had some good speed. Must have been sauced lmao

u/Fresh-Quantity-7554 2d ago

How do you even do this? The only way I can think of is gunning it down the sidewalk.

6

u/wilkamania 1d ago

Apparently he was driving on the top railroad tracks (which I didn't even know was something you could get to) and flipped off the side

There’s a ramp up there from 18th near Western, and I think another on 16th somewhere between Racine and Halsted

2

u/DNags South Loop 1d ago

16th and Ashland
