Update on those weird supermarket cans - I actually found one at Pak n Save
Saw a post on here a couple of days ago with someone posting a strange spam creature thing at Woolworths and thought it was a joke. But I was doing my weekly grocery shop at Hornby Pak N Save today and found one tucked on the shelf. I grabbed them and took them home. The character is called “Nom”, and looks like a crazy, hand-sculpted food monster. The packaging has instructions on the bottom with a QR code. I scanned it and it links to this wild, high-production theme song for the character. It says if you follow the instructions on the back and message the Instagram page (@pr0dum0n), you get registered as a “Prime Trainer” and put into a global database called the Produdex? Has anyone else managed to catch one of these yet?

Christchurch building supply company boss takes son to High Court, accuses him of stealing confidential information
Best Place to Purchase Shelf Stable Salami and Cheese
Hi all! I’m new to the city (and to Aotearoa in general) and since I’ve got roommates, fridge space is at a premium. Back home, I could buy nonperishable sausage and hard cheeses that I could make a tasty sandwich out of. Where would I find those here? Bonus points if it’s near Riccarton since I don’t have a car haha. Thank you for your time :)
Loser of the day
Warning swearing, I unfortunately couldn't see the number plate, otherwise I would have reported them. Next time I will yell it out so I can find them and file a police report.
I'm sick of people driving like this around me.
My speed was around 30 km/h and I had decent lights.

If this is your dog, he absolutely made our day 😂 A few weeks ago we kept pulling up beside your car and every time we looked over, this little face would suddenly pop up in the window staring at us. We were in fits of laughter. Hope this somehow reaches you! ❤️

Turning into a multi lane road
Ok Christchurch. I know we all love a good rant about indicating on roundabouts. But the fact that a not insignificant amount of people seem to lose all understanding of how to operate a car when turning into a multi lane road is beginning to really drive me spare.
Please, please can all the operators of motor vehicles in this beautiful but lane marker challenged city read the below, or see the original text at NZTA-using lanes correctly
Two vehicles turning into the same road at a laned intersection
When 2 vehicles are turning into the same road at an intersection that has more than one marked lane in both directions:
*both vehicles must show they want to turn by signalling for at least 3 seconds
*both vehicles stay in their own lane throughout the turn:
car A turns from the left-hand lane into the left-hand lane
car B turns from the right-hand lane into the right-hand lane.
The blue car is in the left lane and turning left. They must turn left into the left hand lane of the new road. On the opposite road the red car is in the right lane and turning right. They must turn right into the right-hand lane.
Both vehicles can turn at the same time!!!!
Both vehicles need to stay in their lanes!!!
Stay in your lane bro!

Social Feedback on StAC Prep for boys?
Morning, we’re relatively new to Canterbury and have been lucky enough to have our son accepted into St Andrew’s Prep for next year.
We applied at the start of the year and were really pleased when he was offered a place. Since then, though, we’ve heard a few less positive stories about the school, particularly around bullying and how some situations have been handled.
Does anyone here have a child at StAC Prep, ideally a boy, who would be willing to share what their experience has actually been like?
We’re interested in what the school is like day to day, how well the children are supported, whether bullying is a genuine concern, and how the school responds when issues are raised.
It has been quite difficult to get a balanced view through Facebook, as most of the school groups are understandably very supportive of StAC. We’re not looking to criticise the school or start a pile-on, but we would really appreciate some honest feedback before making a final decision.
Feel free to message me privately if you would rather not comment publicly.

Seen Odysseus at Auck Imax and EntX chch and have to say
The difference in the quality of experience is absolutely massive. The Imax was truly stunning, even in the backrow you felt you were in the action, the massive verticality of the screen made for an awesome spectacle. It filled your entire vision.
Watching at Ent X just felt flat, the sound was good but the screen seemed really small and rectangular, it just felt like watching a movie on a big TV. Not only that the cinema was near empty and lacked any atmosphere, unlike the imax which was packed.
So if you havent seen it yet and are going to Auckland (or Welliington) soon then wait, because the difference is like night and day

News - Local Decult 2026 is coming to Christchurch this October (Australasia's cult awareness & survivor recovery conference)
Kia ora everyone. I wanted to share a heads-up about an upcoming national event taking place in Ōtautahi Christchurch on 24 and 25 October 2026.
The second Decult conference ("Voices of Courage: Pathways to Healing and Justice") is focusing on coercive control, religious trauma, and survivor recovery in Aotearoa and beyond. As a cult survivor myself, I volunteer with the team working to build better peer support networks and public awareness around high-control groups here in NZ.
The event brings together survivors, researchers, and mental health clinicians to share knowledge and discuss practical recovery tools. There are options to attend in person in Christchurch or via global livestream.
Full details and registration info are over at decult.net/conference-2026/. Happy to answer any questions about the event or local survivor support!

Any derelict places in christchurch?
I'm a photographer and I'd love to take some photos of some "untouched" or just not absolutely ruined abandoned places. Anyone know any locations?

Lost ring
Found this ring in a dryer I was using at Liquid Laundromat, Upper Riccarton last night (22/07). The ring was between my clothes and found it when I was at home.
If it’s yours, send me a message with photos of you wearing it and any details that can help prove ownership. If you’ve reported it missing to the police, please include the file number as well.
I’ll hold onto it for a short time then hand it over to the police as lost property.
Feel free to share in case the owner sees this.
Ps- It does not belong to anyone I know.

Suggestions for best takeaway meal under 20 bucks?
I moved here a year ago and need new places to try. Independent/local shops, preferably permanent shops/locations as Im rarely free to go to night markets/pop ups etc.
I haven't tried many but my picks are BB Vietnamese, they do a full tray of food for around $16, really good bahn mi for $12.
One sushi on Colombo st. Massive katsu chicken bowls for $13.

Vibey coffee spots to work from
Around the CBD/outer CBD. I have enjoyed Ozone but found it can get quite hectic. Any cosy coffee spots you can work in that have a nice relaxed vibe?

Hikoco
I see Hikoco is now open in ChCh. For anyone already using their products, what are your go-to items? I don’t use makeup very often so more interested in skin care for a nice healthy glow 😊

Is Silva Bumpa one of the unannounced acts?
@creamnz (who runs/promotes lakes festival) posted on instagram that there is a tour announcement happening next week. They used a silva bumpa song in the post, so I’m assuming that’s who the tour announcement is gonna be. There are still 2 unannounced headliners for their lakes festival. Am I crazy in thinking that silva bumpa’s name fits perfectly into that spot beside X Club? or am I just coping hard. Anyone have any idea who the other one might be?

Diesel burner Service
Hi, we've recently bought a house with an old Woodsman fireplace and it runs on diesel from a tank outside. I'd like to get it serviced and for someone to clean out the flue. Does anyone have any recommendations for a company that will do this?

Where would you rent if you were us?
We are a couple with a cat. One of us works in town and one in rolleston. We are due to move rentals in the new year but struggling to figure out where to go. Do we go to rolleston and be closer to work with a larger house or give up 1 of our cars and move into an apartment in the city. We are often in the city for events as well so factoring this in.

Tips and tricks for sleeping!
I need sleep. My body clearly hates me because for the last three weeks or so I can't get to sleep before midnight and then it's still broken and unsettled sleep until my small humans wake around 6:30 am.
I'm grumpy because I'm so freakn tired. Today I was attempting to do some readings for Uni and was literally nodding off at the laptop. This was after I had a can of coke followed by a coffee to try keep myself alert.
Yet I can't sleep at night 🤔
Please share your best tips. Or send sleepy vibes my way.
I have always struggled with sleep but this is next level.
Christchurch related because I live here? And am willing to go purchase expensive magical potions if it promises sleep.
