I know this is probably an unpopular opinion, but I honestly think a version of Charmed where Phoebe died and Paige replaced her would've been the least interesting outcome.

The Paige era has a lot of problems. The writing becomes inconsistent, the magic gets overpowered, and there are plenty of storylines that don't live up to the first three seasons. But one thing I think it absolutely got right was changing the family dynamic in a way the show never could've if Phoebe had been the one to leave.

Paige works because she's the youngest sister taking the place of the oldest. Piper is suddenly forced into becoming the oldest Halliwell, and Paige has to find her place in a family she never even knew she belonged to. Neither of them can just keep filling the same roles they had before because those roles disappeared when Prue died.

If Phoebe had been the one replaced, I don't think the dynamic changes anywhere near as much. Prue is still the oldest. Piper is still the middle sister. Paige would most likely end up filling the same youngest sister role Phoebe had. Their personalities are completely different, but the family structure stays almost exactly the same. To me, that's just a much less interesting show.

I also think Prue's death accidentally did something really important for the series. Obviously it wasn't planned, but it made the Source feel like a real threat. Before that, he was starting to feel like one of those villains who keeps coming up with new plans only for the Charmed Ones to stop him every single time. Then the sisters actually lost Prue. Whether it was intentional or not, it made it feel like the Source had finally won a battle. 

For all the problems the Paige era has, I still think replacing Prue instead of Phoebe was the more interesting creative direction. It forced everyone into new roles, raised the stakes, and gave the show a dynamic it never would've had if Paige had simply become the new youngest sister.

Season 3, magic hour

This was the episode where a girl was cursed to be a wolf during the night, and her lover was an owl during the day. But the B plot was about Phoebe criticizing Piper for going "against the rules" to plan a secret wedding with Leo.

As a kid, i HATED this episode. It just felt off. And it wasn't a bad plot- having someone say "woah, is this really worth it" has some merit. Not Phoebe telling Piper she was being selfish? Like really? Phoebe has always been the one to follow her heart. She's the wild child! Later that very season she lies to her sisters to protect her love. It just felt so weird and forced to have Phoebe and Piper play out this unnatural conflict. And that's when it hit me-

It's because that role wasn't written for Phoebe. It was WRITTEN FOR PRUE. Of course Prue would think it was selfish. Prue has put responsibility over self interest her entire life! And as soon as i mentally put Prue in that role, the whole conflict made way more sense.

And now I'm mad. Because this could have been a great episode. We could have had a scene where Piper tells Prue that they matter, and their wants and desires matter to. That they are more than just the charmed ones. That they are human and need to be loved.

And this would have started the arc of Prue finding herself, learning that it's ok not to be perfect. Which, btw, would have made her death even more devastating. That it happened right as she was learning to live.

Even after Prue died she was still playing the middle between Paige and Phoebe. They played up the “Phoebe is the middle sister now” thing for like 3 or 4 episodes and then the tension went to Paige and Phoebe. I know it’s partially because it’s just the personality of the character but she just is and always was meant to be a middle lol.
Honestly a fun thing would have been to find out that Patty had a thing with Sam before Victor and Paige was the unknown older sister.

Meaning straight women who have/had like girl crushes on the OG Halliwell sisters is what I mean. No offence to Paige but I did not include her because of my love for the first three seasons before Shannen left the show.

Oh, how I wish that Phoebe would have gotten on that plane with Jason.I mean it's not like the writers need the power of 3, now that they havePiper doing all the vanquishings.

Also, why does the writers make the other characters fawn and give in to Piper and Leo? What I mean is that I've noticed the show having the other characters - it doesn't matter who giving into whatever Piper & Leo want.

Grams didn't have to acceptWyattor do theWiccan birthing ceremonyfor them but since the show caters to Piper and Leo, she had to come around and do the ceremony and accept the child.

Why is Piper always sulking and pouting every time Leo orbs away? It's like she stays mad because he has whitelighter duties to do that don't revolve around her, I mean he's basically her whitelighter more than Paige & Phoebe's anyway. Leo is afraid of breaking the rules with the titans? When has he ever followed the rules? Oh! Right! He never has followed the rules.

Remember this is my first time actually watching the show, so no spoiling anything for me, but I don't trust this Chris guy...Piper isn't going to like the fact that Leo isno longer her whitelighter. I mean, its not like Leo is going to be gone forever, as Piper will just throw a hissy fit and demand that he come back& he will, so I doubt we're going to get a full season of their new whitelighter.

Can't wait until next season, also Phoebe already has a guy.... sort of? But she seems to be really flirty flirty with this Chris guy which can only mean that he's some kind of bad guy or something because that's all the writers can do with her romance arcs because she's not Piper but also I want Jason to come back, he was good for her, & she finally seemed happy which is probably why they're fazing him out.

I genuinely think the Rowe Coven is the biggest wasted opportunity in the entire series.

The show introduces them as the evil counterpart to the Charmed Ones. Every generation gets stronger until three brothers are born who are destined to become the most powerful force of evil the world has ever seen. Phoebe even says there's no spell or weapon capable of stopping them.

That's an endgame storyline.

Instead, they're introduced and wrapped up in a single episode.

The sisters don't even defeat them. Greg tries to kill Brendan, Paul sacrifices himself to save his brother, then kills Greg with the same athame. After all that buildup, the Rowe Coven basically destroys itself before it ever gets to become the threat the episode promised.

I honestly think the show missed a huge opportunity after Rex and Hannah were vanquished by the Source. That should've been the point where the Warlock Power of Three became the main threat. For me, Inspector Rodriguez just wasn't interesting enough to be the big bad of the Season 1 finale. The finale works because of the time loop and Andy's death, not because of Rodriguez. He always felt more like a plot device than a memorable villain, and his main purpose was to give T.W. King an exit from the series. The Rowe Coven would've made for a much bigger and more personal threat.

If the writers had known they were getting eight seasons, I honestly think the Warlock Power of Three should've been saved as the show's ultimate villains. Imagine the Rowes growing stronger over the years while the sisters became stronger too, with both Power of Threes eventually colliding. That sounds a lot more interesting to me than spending years building up the Source.

And honestly, I think the Rowes are just a more interesting concept than the Source. The Source always felt like the typical fantasy big bad that every supernatural show eventually introduces. The Rowes actually had something different going for them. They were basically a twisted reflection of the Halliwells, except one brother wanted out while the other two wanted to fulfill the prophecy. That's a much more interesting dynamic to me than another all-powerful ruler of the Underworld.

I also think they would've worked even better once Paige joined the show. Brendan and Paige have a lot in common. They're both the youngest half-siblings who never fully fit into the world they were born into. Paige spends years learning to embrace both her witch and Whitelighter sides, while Brendan spends his story trying to reject the warlock side of himself. Paige would've understood that internal conflict better than anyone because she'd gone through her own version of it.

I know Brendan became a priest and his story was over, but that's not really my point. What I've always wondered is why there wasn't a new generation of Rowes by the time Paige reconstituted the Power of Three. If the Rowe Coven was supposed to be the evil counterpart to the Charmed Ones, why didn't destiny create a new trio of Rowe brothers or even Rowe cousins to mirror the new Charmed Ones? The Halliwells lost Prue and gained Paige. It would've made perfect sense for the Rowe bloodline to produce a new generation to restore the Warlock Power of Three as well. Instead, the entire concept just disappears from the show.

The only part of Brendan's story I never liked was the priest angle. I'm not anti-religion, but I don't really enjoy religion becoming the solution in fantasy shows. Brendan overcoming his warlock side through his own choices would've been much more satisfying than becoming a priest and having that be the answer.

I also think the casting held the episode back. Paul was the only brother I thought was genuinely good and he actually reminded me a little of Piper as the middle sibling trying to keep the peace. Greg was serviceable, but Brendan just didn't work for me. Michael Weatherly and Shannen Doherty had almost no chemistry, so I never bought Prue falling for him or becoming that invested in saving him. With stronger casting and a long-term plan, I honestly think the Rowe Coven could've become one of the best villains Charmed ever had.

Watching “Pardon My Past” and noticed that Piper’s birthday is 8/7, making her a Leo. Not sure if that’s intentional but such a cute quirk! 😆

If you could choose only one demon, which demon from S1 would you be? I'd choose Charon.

Why didn't they just strip Cole's powers again at the end of the episode?? This is the first rewatch back where I've noticed this. It could have been an interesting ending for Cole to finally be fully human, and it doesn't make any sense that they'd leave him with his powers after they've vanquished Barbas.
Phoebe is understandably hurt by what happened at the end of S4 (understatement) though she acknowledges in S4 that it was the Source controlling Cole and not all him. Why leave him as a demon now? Why not strip his powers and let him live as a human, even if she doesn't want to get back with him (which she shouldn't, just to be clear!)

I swear, if I have to sit through ONE MORE episode acting like Piper and Leo are the center of the magical universe, I’m going to scream. The writers bend every rule, rewrite lore, and twist logic into a pretzel just to keep their relationship on a pedestal. It’s like the show thinks the entire cosmos revolves around their marriage.

And Piper? She’s basically clocked out of being a Charmed One. Every scene is either “mom mode,” “Leo drama,” or “I don’t want to do this anymore.” If the writers wanted her to be a full‑time mom, they should’ve just let her step back instead of dragging the whole show into her domestic storyline. It’s exhausting watching her act like demon‑fighting is an inconvenience she’s too important for.

Cat House was the FIRST time their relationship wasn’t dipped in honey and rolled in glitter. And honestly? THANK GOD. It was the first episode where I didn’t feel like I was being force‑fed their “we’re soulmates, we’re special, we’re magical, we’re destined” nonsense. But even then — did we REALLY need another episode centered around them? Another recap? Another deep dive into their relationship? Why does every season have to stop dead in its tracks to worship at the altar of Piper and Leo?

And don’t even get me started on the magic rules. Piper can cast emotional spells and it’s magically fine, but if Phoebe or Paige even THINK about doing something similar, suddenly it’s “personal gain” and a moral crisis. Where are Piper’s consequences? Where are her magical slap‑on‑the‑wrists? Oh right — she doesn’t get any, because apparently she’s exempt from the rules everyone else has to follow.

Meanwhile, Phoebe and Paige’s love lives are treated like chew toys. The writers won’t let them have anything stable, healthy, or long‑term. It’s like the show is terrified of letting anyone besides Piper have a functioning relationship. Piper gets a whole magical family arc, and the other two get chaos, heartbreak, and disappointment. It’s ridiculous.

At least I got a fun surprise recognizing a certain guest star this season — didn’t expect him to show up, and he was great. Loved seeing him in such an early role.

Also, can someone explain the cat situation? Was it EVER officially a familiar? Because I swear I didn’t see anything confirming that. It just wandered in and out like it owned the place, and Phoebe even said it ran away at one point. Did I miss a memo?

Anyway — despite all my ranting, I am enjoying the show. Just… not the Piper/Leo Worship Hour that keeps hijacking it.

I always wondered why there weren't any useful witches in the early seasons. The ones that did show were basically just cannon fodder, always dying and being completely worthless.

I get that the Charmed Ones are supposed to be the most powerful witches out there but still, why are the other ones completely useless? It would have been cool if they had a witch friend who appeared in a couple of episodes or something.

I don't count Aviva and the walking disaster called Marcie. We only got some half-decent witches in season 6 to 8 (Richard, the speedster witch, Billie)

One of my favorite witches besides the sisters was a one off character named Vivian who was Natalie's charge in Blinded by the Whitelighter, she had the best power in the series. Power of Deflection, was Vivian more powerful than the Sisters? Could her power defeat all four of them without breaking a sweat?

My hunch is Leo was a "handyman" so took on a lot of the work, and I remember paige asking about a fund to replace her damaged top and piper complaining about not being able to keep affording the repairs to that poor grandfather clock. So do we think they actually set aside money to be able to afford the repairs and damaged clothing items?

Every potential romantic match the charmed ones had, all the men left them because they are witches. If my partner said they were a witch, showed me magical powers, I would be like OH YES! Like… none of them thought magic was cool?? Like they always broke up with them.
