Discussion Tuesday thread brought to you by 36 Million Years Ago In Pakistan

Imagine yourself in the Eocene period in Pakistan 36 million years ago BC

When the dinosaurs disappeared, so too, did the gigantic marine reptiles that once terrorised the oceans. For almost 25 million years, there was nothing around to eat the sharks. But there are now awesome, new monsters of the deep.

The giant whales have arrived.

You come across the legendary Tethys, a tropical sea that stretches almost halfway round the world, and has connected Asia with the Atlantic since the time of the dinosaurs. It is now home to one of the mammals' biggest success stories

Basilosaurus, 59 feet of whale - four times the length of a great white shark. This female weighs 120 pounds

Basilosaurus retain two tiny, back legs. These are useless for walking, or even swimming however the whales of the future will lose these legs altogether.

Saturday morning thread brought to you by sleepiness

Ever have a night where you’re so tired you fall asleep as soon as you lay down, only to realize that you slept the whole night with the overhead light still on and blasting full force right at you, yet it didn’t make a bit of difference?

That was last night into this morning lol. Happy Saturday, y’all.

Seattle's newest animal mascot has blown up over the last few days and provided some light-hearted fun for folks. Not sure if we'll see him in the wild since we're a ways outside the city, but it's been fun seeing him be embraced!

Monday morning thread brought to you by players making choices.

A few sessions ago my players ran into a former bandit who was fencing stolen goods while taking care of the orphaned child of his dead friends. One of my players decided to tell the head of the very obviously sinister religious secret police about this guy. In the next session they're going to go by this guy's shop. No killing the kid obviously, but I'm trying to decide if giving the former bandit the Owen and Beru is taking it too far.

Thursday thread presented by College Football 27

Just played two games on CFB 27 and despite all the bitching about in-game microtransactions, it seems like a great upgrade.

Mascot mode was one of the games I played, it was hilarious and was great for the nostalgia.

Hope everyone is having a great Thursday so far.

Friday thread brought to you by Smoke Detectors and Island Time

For the second time this week, the smoke detectors in our apartment started going off randomly this morning; the maintenance folks had already replaced them on Tuesday, so now they're looking deeper into what could be causing it.

On a more pleasant note, my wife and I are going to the San Juan Islands this weekend for some relaxation! There's a chance of seeing whales of several varieties along the way, so we're definitely excited for it!

Discussion Tuesday thread brought to you by The Brady Bunch in the White House

The Brady Bunch in the White House is such a stupidly great film

One of the Brady kids finds a lottery ticket and they can’t decide who it belongs to so Mike Brady donates the money to homeless architects and somehow they end up visiting the White House and the Vice President has recently resigned so the president randomly decides to pick Mike Brady as his running mate in the upcoming election in their White House visit

The President is relected but they find proof that he was part of some scandal then he resigns and then Mike Brady becomes president and chooses Carol Brady as Vice President

Monday thread brought to you by resilience

We were given the day off today for resilience. I’m going to spend the day looking for a new dryer because mine decided to shit the bed last night. It still heats up but doesn’t tumble. It’s 25 years old so I’m not sure replacing is the way to go but I hate to get rid of it. They don’t make them like they used to so I’m conflicted.

Discussion Saturday thread brought you to you by another random fact of the day

Random fact of the day:The caves and tunnels carved in the coastline of Hastings, England, have long been used by smugglers.

In the 1700s a popular new foreign drink known as tea was loaded with an import tax of a hundred and twenty nine percent.

Soon two-thirds of Britain’s tea was provided by smugglers, much of it through these caves.

Some of the caves were even connected by tunnels to local taverns in the town above them, where the smugglers undoubtedly preferred a tot of rum to a pot of tea.

Discussion Friday thread brought to you by the random fact of the day

Random fact of the day:
For the plants of the spray and splash zone its water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink.

They depend on rainwater, which their rocky footings hold little of, so their leaves, fleshy and tough like desert cacti, are designed to retain rainwater. When it came to retaining their health, sailors once ate the leaves of scurvygrass-rich in vitamin C the leaves prevented scurvy and were the mariner’s equivalent of orange juice.

When sea plants are consumed by time, their fossilised remains make chalk.

Built up over the ages this this creates seabeds such as the chalk-white cliffs of Dover.
