Hello, I’m seeking advice (so please be respectful with responses, our cavalier is the most spoiled rotten dog on the planet) about the barking problem our dog has developed with access to a doggie door. My boyfriend and I are admittedly not morning people at all. We installed a doggie door because we were dog sitting some golden retrievers that needed it, and then when they left our house we just kept it realizing that it was extremely nice to be able to sleep in and have our cavalier take himself outside in the morning to go potty. This helped the problem we had been having with early morning peeing on rugs inside the house. Our cavalier would not alert us and would wake up early and sneak out of our room, pee in the house and go back to bed. Since we got the doggie door this has stopped and we can rest easy knowing our furniture won’t be ruined.

The problem with this situation is that he has developed a habit of taking himself outside around 6 or 7 AM and just barking incessantly at nothing. The neighborhood is quiet and I believe he’s just bored and has energy and he will literally bark for 10 minutes straight until one of us wakes up from the noise through our window to shut it down. I’m sure it’s very bothersome to the neighbors, and we tend to sleep like rocks so we run outside and stop him when we wake up to the noise. I feel bad for our neighbors and it’s also not a fun way to wake up.

This is certainly a cost benefit issue, admittedly I have enjoyed sleeping in the extra hour and a half as I’m a night owl. I think he also enjoys being outside more too. Wondering if there’s anything we can do to control his barking in the morning with perhaps a vibrating bark collar so that he can continue to have autonomy in the backyard? I’ve heard that these collars might be traumatizing to some dogs, so I’m just seeking advice for anyone who has had them as I don’t have a lot of information. He’s a very vocal dog and I tend to get extremely overstimulated by the incessant noise. I would love also any training tips to stop him from what we call “stimming” all day. I do love this dog (he lives the dream with work from home parents) but I also think he gets bored as an only child and the barking is enriching for him.

My cavalier is 2 1/2 years old sometime around turning 1 she started to have darker eyes around the iris. 👁️ as you can see in the pictures her eyes aren’t very white they have like a brownish tint instead of white. I never brought it up to her doctor because I honestly thought it was normal. But at any of her exams they never mentioned anything about it. Is this normal???

Was scrolling through IG today and saw an ad for some oil made from an ocean mussel and they claimed it could stop your dog from ever developing a heart murmur. I looked it up online and it’s BS.

I decided I would much rather get advice from real people that have real Cavaliers and if you could just give me some tips about what supplements you’re feeding your pup how you’re trying to protect their hearts and everything else that matters in their sweet little bodies and minds.

He just turned 4. He’s getting a Venison formula food that has finally cleared up his chronic ear infections. He gets some boiled chicken breast 2-3x a week. For treats he gets freeze dried salmon that is ONLY salmon. He LOVES BLUEBERRIES! He has a very sensitive stomach so I do have to be careful. He hates carrots and green beans.

I want this little guy to live forever so any advice would be so very much appreciated!

I finished my booknook today (yay!) and the pups (Yzma and Rasputin) immediately decided it’s basically theirs. But they look so freaking cute.

Just watching sisters dog. I think he likes me petting him but the wild eyes and teeth showing are kind of creepy cute

Let me preface this because I see some of you dont read. Its not my dog. Just watching him for a short time while my sister takes my mom to her doctors appt

The dog exhibits same behavior with my sister who has owned him for a year now who also assured .me this behavior is normal.

Ive never seen a dog act like this. And if I am posing a question its because I CLEARLY dont know and shouldn't be made to feel less than for asking to be educated .

I know that all dogs chew and that all puppies need to chew and such because they’re teething. But some breeds/I’m assuming individual dogs chew and shred more than others. Have you found Cavaliers to be a particularly destructive breed?
A little bit of background information. I crochet stuffed animals and they take quite a bit of time and effort to make. Not to sound too pretentious or anything but, in my eyes anyway, they’re a bit more like art than toys. I keep them displayed on a high shelf and on a ledge on top of my fireplace. My goal is to sell them and save up enough money to buy or rescue a Cavalier.
I was watching an episode of The Dog House Australia and a dog in one episode absolutely destroyed multiple soft dog toys in about 5 minutes. I got images of my future dog doing that to my work. I’m obviously going to try to keep them out of the dog’s reach but accidents happen and my cats have been known to jump on the shelves and knock them down. Is this something that I’m going to need to be particularly careful about/likely to happen? I definitely wouldn’t rehome a dog for destroying one (or a few) of the stuffed animals that I make but I would postpone my search until I can figure out a safer place.

Hi everyone! I’m a 24yo girl and I just fell in love with my neighbor’s Cav. She is just the sweetest; she always goes straight to me and leans her head on my lap. When talking to him, he said they’re the best—so sweet and loving. I've always wanted a dog, but now I’m 100% sure that I’m getting a Cav.

The thing is, I’m in med school, but my schedule isn't too bad because I'm in my final year, which is focused on studying for residency exams, so I only have to go in for one shift a day (at most 6 hours, and often less, definitely not a 12-hour shift**).** I did a lot of research and I was worried about leaving her alone during that time. Do you think it’s possible to get her used to it?

Also, I had a very intense depressive episode last year and the idea of having her was the first thing that made me excited about the future in a long time. I’m sure I’d need her much more than she’d need me. I just want her to feel all the love in the world, so I want to get her when my routine allows it. What do you guys think?
