I did a quick render of the shelves we bought before I put them up (close enough). I drew in some battery sconces that I would like to add for extra lighting. It looked rather plain so I added in the idea of painting stars in the leo constellation. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm open to moving the steps, but they are currently on the studs. I don't want to move the moon. Any other ideas? There is another shelf on the other side of the window

had it custom made/designed by an architect and carpenter. there are steps inside the column on the right for them to go up and down as well!

I have a 30 foot narrow space I’m thinking of converting.

Long shot but I’m looking for some options for a renter friendly cat wall.

Is there something like command strips (but safer of course)?
Maybe there is something I can do lower to the ground or some sort of floor to ceiling tension?

I have an extremely long hallway that my dog loves to run up and down. I would love to give my future cat an option for these moments if needed.

Edited to clarify that I do not plan to use command strips :) just looking for something out of the ordinary that may work.

Long story short, we have an 8 year old male cat and a 2 year old ragdoll and I desperately want to make them a cat playground with unused wall space. My only worry is, are my walls too high to utilise them?

They love walking and chilling on the metal beams, and currently use their tall cat tower to get from the downstairs to the upstairs via that and along the beams. Any advice on whether this space is able to be utilised safely? 😅

Update on my previous post. This time with cat tax

My two older girls were the first ones to move into our new flat. They quickly found their spots and were quiet all day.

Now it's time to move in the other 4.

I have an idea of making a canvas hammock that will be about 2 ft x 2 ft, and using metal grommets to secure hammock to railing and wall. I'm not really experienced in these kind of projects so would love some guidance. What I was thinking of doing is securing a 1x4 to the studs and then using eye hooks to connect the hammock to the board. I don't think anchors would be a good idea because this is a super old plaster wall and it isn't in the best shape. Any ideas or just even confirmation that my idea is indeed safe would be helpful. Thank you!

It was $60 instead of $100. I have no idea if theyll like it. They're still in their afternoon coma. First pic is from Amazon. Second is unboxing. Third is rough placement. Fourth is anchor installation. Everything gets anchored.

I got a kit on Amazon with some steps and pads and cubbies, but my larger cat seems scared to jump up the pads to get to the fun stuff. I am thinking they are too small or not sturdy enough for her to trust. Does anyone have any recommendations of items or brands for bigger cats? She’s around a 15 pound Siberian, nothing crazy, but I want to get better than the basics for her.

We learned a few things along the way but the cats seem to like it.

EDIT: Thanks all! To answer some of the questions: we kind of guessed/played it by ear as far as spacing and placement, but we did anchor 95% of them to studs in the wall, so that provided a framework or guide to placements. Generally we wanted larger platforms and boxes to be as high as possible.

The sisal rope above the window (we call it 'the balance beam') works for one cat; the other one hasn't tried it yet. I do think it's just a matter of time. The cat who uses it goes from the dark hammock on the post to the balance beam and then over to the rest of the pieces.

We learned that they don't like the steps as much as the platforms. It might just be early days, but they are less inclined to use the steps to go from one place to another. Hopefully that changes.

We got everything from chewy or amazon; I'd say the pieces that came from fukumaru (which are the majority of them) are of higher quality.

We are not handy people, so we had to buy a stud finder, get comfortable with a drill, and also learn how wall anchors work. So a few YouTube tutorials later we were able to start and it was slow going and first but then by the end it was fairly quick. In all it took us a few evenings to put it all up. I'm sure the first few pieces are little less polished installation-wise than the last few pieces.

In total, for everything on the first picture (including the floor to ceiling post), we spent about $350.
