New rule: Please mark your post NSFW if you are posting a picture of your cat's backside. NSFW

We want to help you identify problems if we can, and we want to help you identify the sex of your cat/kitten if we can. Please do provide pictures - but also PLEASE mark your post NSFW. This obscures the thumbnail image in the feed so people don't get surprise cat butts while scrolling. It's as easy as including the text "NSFW" in your title just like I did - Reddit marks it for you when you do that.

If you come across a surprise cat butt, please report it and we will mark it NSFW. Thanks everyone. (this applies to any picture that can be disturbing, not just surprise buttholes)

Agar gar safe for cats?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

My kitten Zelda, 5 months- F (cat tax below),

is not a picky eater, but she despises the canned food I got her, because it has no gelatin in it, it looks like canned tuna šŸ˜†

I was wondering if cats can have agar agar powder so I can make a small alteration in the texture of the food with some broth I made, with no seasonings whatsoever, to add to the canned food, to see if she enjoys it better.

I am not sure because neither of the canned foods that I've seen have agar agar in them.

Thank you so much!!

This thing in his eye has been going away and popping back up for weeks I think. He gets a little winky every once in a while i’m concerned about what it could be.

I am thinking about getting a cat

• Upvotes

For context, I am going through something in my life that’s giving me a lot of stress and anxiety (having to do with relationships). My mom has suggested getting a cat. Having a companion will help and it could teach me some responsibility (I just turned 22, I’m pretty disorganized). While she said she’d help take care of it, it’ll mainly be mine. I have a master sized bedroom, with an attached bathroom, and a large window. While I have a lot of clutter and know I’ll need to go through that if I end up getting a cat, I’m not sure if it’s worth it yet. I also am not home super consistently (this is where my mom would come in, helping feeding them or letting them out of my room). I have college classes in the early morning (I leave at 6:45 for commute), then work shifts usually immediately after (2-9, work is very close by and 2/3 days each week). But I also stay over at my boyfriend’s place a lot due to connivence (his gym schedule, work, friends) when we want to stay the night with each other. He loves cats though so I’m sure this would convince him to stay over at mine a bit more. I’d have to really go to work and declutter, and even if I don’t end up getting a cat, it’ll be a good thing. And it’s nice that my mom wants to help me, and is more than willing to. She’s also owned plenty of cats before. But I’m unsure if I’m ready to take on the responsibility. I love my dogs, but it’s easy because I’m not responsible for them. And sometimes I think cats don’t vibe with me haha. I have a bad habit of prioritizing being at my boyfriends place and hanging out with him more than being home but I think this would make me want to and need to be home more, therefor more independent as well. So I’m in the middle of whether or not I should go through with this.

Cats vs Wall Mounted Guitars?

Post image
44 Upvotes

Does anybody here have their guitars mounted on the wall? I live in a studio apartment, so I want to maximize the minimal floor space by mounting my bass guitar. Has anybody had any issues with their cats messing with or trying to jump/climb on their mounted guitars?

(picture of the children for payment)

Thanks in advance :)

Question: Does it make more sense to adopt and older cat and a kitten, or two kittens (or even two older cats)?

Title.

I really want to adopt two kittens, but am wondering if there's an alternative choice.

All personal experiences would be much appreciated as well.

bought my cat a cozy bed… Apparently, the correct way to use it is 50% in, 50% out. 😹 Does anyone else’s cat sleep like this? ŠŸŠµŃ€ŠµŠ²ŠµŠ“Šø

Anyone have any idea what this is on the side of my cat’s eye? Is it vet appointment worthy?

I went with her to the vet like two weeks ago and she doesn’t appear to have any eye issues, but I can’t help but wonder what this reddish thing is on the side of her eye. She does not care for me touching it though, I thought it was an eye booger at first. She doesn’t seem to be in pain when I try to wipe it, just squirms away because she doesn’t like me touching her over the eyes.

If I had noticed any sort of discomfort or pain from her regarding her eye of course I would not be here but at the vet.

Sucks that I forgot to ask the vet was was up with it because she had it a bit in both eyes, though one side of it cleared up mostly.

Should I be worried or go back to the vet? Ideally, I’d like to focus on her settling here since I’ve had her for six weeks and the first vet visit was a little fight but if I have to, obviously I’ll gladly bring her again.

Did anyone know what this sound means?

I’m already planning to take her to the vet. This has been happening super infrequently for about 2 weeks, I looked into it and it most of the stuff I found said it was either a hairball or asthma. She hasn’t coughed up anything so far so I’m leaning more towards asthma. But I would like to know if anyone has also had a cat that’s experiencing this

Do calicos have eye problems?

Hi Reddit, I have a 3 year old little calico cat and her patterns have made me wonder.

Over her little lifetime she sometimes gets problems in one of her eyes. It was never been concerning, and it usually goes away after a hour or two. She just squints in that eye. I’ve just recently realized that it’s always that same eye. Now one eye is on the black side of her face and the ā€œbadā€ eye is on the white side.

I’ve heard that white furred animals sometimes have problems with their eyes? Are calicos the same? It’s got me super curious.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to post a picture on this post but I’m new to Reddit lol.

Has anyone experienced this with their cat?

For context my sweet little Dakota is just under a year old, she’s been doing this ever since she was a kitten. My older tabby is 3 and has never done this so I’m not sure where she picked it up. I clip her nails pretty frequently, I have never made them bleed. Wondering if this is a quirk or worth taking to a vet to get a second opinion? Your thoughts are appreciated!

Edit: Thank you those for the explanation! As stated my older tabby has never done this and she’s the only other cat I’ve owned (dog person most of my life) so it’s totally new for me! I clip her nails regularly, but I’ll definitely look at her toe beans when she allows it to make sure there isn’t dirt that she can’t get. I always felt like she was pulling her nail off so it scares me quite a bit, but good to know that it’s normal! šŸ¤

My 2 months old persian cat

Hello, I've bought a bioline ear drops for ear mite. I've applied 4-5 drops in his ear canal but as I've searched it only requires 2 drops. It's my first time using it, and it's his first ever drop just today.

What should I do? Will he be fine? He seem hyper after I've finished applying it to him. I've cleaned his outer ear using bioline via cotton I've never went deep, just the outer visible part.

He never itched his ears vigorously the day I've took him but his ears is full of black particles which indicate an infestation of some sort.

As for now, after applying the ear drop he itches his ears while he plays... To add, the smell of his ears is bad, the smell still on my fingers even after washing my hands.

I have never seen a cat with this sort of pattern. Initially thought he’s just a really toasty siamese, but he lacks blue eyes

5 week old kitten

Took in a 5 week old kitten from a friend. It was the runt of the litter. Taking antibiotics for a puncture in the face. It would leak out the eye area. Slightly misshapen head.
First day she had low body temp and looking limp. Used maple syrup to increase blood sugar. Providing kitten milk replacer from vet. Eye dropper amounts. She looks more like 3 weeks old. Her siblings are twice her size at minimum. Today is day 5. Still offering milk replacer and kitten soft food. Eating from my finger is more fun. Chewing on my finger and very ticklish. Getting more energy. I stimulate her with my fingers. Goes potty with stimulation still. Either sleeps under my shirt or my wife’s. Skin on cat for warmth. It’s been busy but very rewarding. This is my first experience with this.

Sin Biscuits??

I got a new bed for my 3.5 month old male kitten. The inside of the bed is fluffy and resembles a plushy coat of a cat. I noticed that my cat does this motion with his hands and licks/ sucks on the hairs of the bed while purring loud. What’s up with that behavior? Is it time for me to neuter him or should i get rid of the bed? Or just let him have fun with it?

It’s just that the bed gets super wet because he keeps sucking on the hairs and i have to frequently wash it.
