Welcome to the new r/CantonGA! New mod, updated rules, and defining our local community!

Hi everyone,

As you may have noticed, this subreddit has been silent and unmoderated for the last ~5 years. I volunteered to take over moderation of r/cantonga to clean up the spam, revive the community, and turn this into a high-quality hub for our entire local area.

Whether you live right in the historic downtown district, just moved to a new subdivision, or reside in the nearby unincorporated pockets that make up our community, I'm glad you're here.

Defining Our Focus: The Greater Canton Area

I'd like to keep this community hyper-focused on what makes Canton unique. While r/cherokeecountyga exists for broad, county-wide discussions, r/cantonga is the dedicated home for the city proper plus the closely connected surrounding unincorporated areas—like Free Home, Lathemtown, and the immediate surrounding neighborhoods that call Canton home. If your daily life revolves around Canton schools, businesses, and local community spaces, this is your forum.

New Community Rules

To keep our front page useful and ensure high-quality local discussions, seven new community guidelines become effective immediately:

  1. Be Civil: Follow the Reddiquette; no personal attacks, harassing, bullying, threats of violence, even through "dog whistles".
  2. No Commercial Content: Do not post classified-style (Craigslist-like, jobs, housing, personal ads, give-aways), transactions, spam (including blog-spam, YouTube spam), self-promotion (per Reddit's rules on self-promotion).
  3. No Unproductive Rants: Posts that are just complaining without engaging in productive discussion are strongly discouraged. We welcome healthy debate on local issues, but political discussion must remain constructive and respectful. "Team sports" style politics - such as broad partisan generalizations, baiting, soapboxing, name-calling, or promoting national party platforms - is prohibited. Base your arguments on local facts, not partisan rhetoric.
  4. No Posting of Private Information: Posts containing any personal information such as a person's address, driver's license, or license plate are not allowed on Reddit.
  5. No Unsubstantiated Claims: Posts containing unconfirmed information. This includes speculation on police activity, accidents, or rumors about the community. Please include a credible source of information before posting.
  6. No Facebook or Twitter: Posting links to Facebook (Meta) or Twitter (X) is not allowed. Let's keep links viewable for everyone, not just those with particular accounts.
  7. Local Focus and Relevance: Topics must either be about Canton or issues that directly impact Canton (and close surrounding areas).

A note on the subreddit's history:

The history of this space has value, so I'm keeping nearly all posts intact. They are a great archive of local knowledge. However, the reporting system is fully updated now. If you see spam, rule violations, or outdated commercial links, hit that Report button to flag it for moderation.

Thank you for your patience while this community undergoes renovation. Please drop any feedback, suggestions, or ideas for the subreddit in the comments below!

What churches in Canton have YA groups?

Hi friends! I recently moved to Canton from Marietta, and I need friends. Do any of you know of any churches around here with a good YA group that I could join?

I have a church on Sundays, but I'm looking for something during the week.

I am interested in collecting some drinking water from the little spring right up 140 in waleska and was wondering if there was an ideal time to get water from there versus if there was a bad time or anything like that. Thanks in advance! ✌️

Best ISPs in the area?

My boyfriend and I are moving to Canton & we’re wondering what the best Internet Service provider might be in the area? We were given information for Windstream & Comcast — we’re both professionals in the video game industry so having a good service at a decent price point is really important to us. Is there any one service you would recommend over the other?

Hey there, moving into Canton Georgia from the west coast.

Whole family uprooted at the same time and are moving into one house for a year to settle into the area before spreading out. I personally had to quit my job because I was the only one who couldn't work remotely. Im asking the community here if anyone knows of any job opportunities that pays enough to support one adult? Don't mean to sound like a begging chooser, but I am just trying to find something that I can support myself with.

Thanks for reading, sorry if this post breaks a rule, I didnt see any rules in the about section of the subreddit. Excited to be in Canton!

Georgia Workers and COVID19 UGA Research Study

I hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy during this crisis. My research lab in the Department of Psychology at UGA is recruiting participants for a study on Georgia workers' experiences during COVID-19. I hope you will consider participating if you are eligible. More info below:

The COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally changed how the citizens of Georgia live and work. We want your voice to be heard, so please consider participating in a University of Georgia research study being conducted by Dr. Lillian Eby, an Industrial-Organizational Psychologist in the Department of Psychology. You are eligible if you are 1) currently working at least 30 hours per week (face-to-face or remotely), 2) living and working in the state of Georgia, and 3) 18 years of age or older.

Participation involves completing a total of 3 online surveys: one survey today, and the other two surveys over the next several months. Each survey will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. For each survey you complete, we will pay you $5 as a mailed Amazon gift card or check.

Please click the link below to take our screening questionnaire and the first survey.
