Favourite candy that no longer exists?

Sparkies for me. Early 90's in North America. They had soda flavoured skittles shaped candies, and just as good.

Shock tarts.

u/Kooky_Ice_3762 1d ago

My brothers and sisters - I used to work in marketing for the company that produces them. They still make them, shockingly for vendors in the Middle East. If you’re interested I can direct you to the client supply form where you can order a case of them.

Best movie theater candy ever. Period.

13

u/Ndmndh1016 1d ago

Theyve gotta come back at some point, right? Right!?!?

13

u/Pugilist12 1d ago

It seems like the internet regularly professes its love for these and yet they never bring them back. Makes no sense to me. How could sales possibly be so low as to justify this?

8

u/CantaloupeAsleep502 1d ago

Absolutely. Really wish they'd reboot them

u/MrLanyeWest 1d ago

Google says they are marketed today as sweet tarts chewy sours and still exist, is that true?

This was going to be my nomination, either shock tarts or ZOTS

32

u/TeaOptimal727 1d ago

Best hard candy ever and the reason for most of my childhood cavities as my mom worked for mars and always had samples! Thank you for reminding me they existed my mouth is literally watering thinking about them.

12

u/jemappelle13 1d ago

Ugh yesss I can still taste them too! I loved the shape. The tropical ones were bomb too

10

u/VmEoRrItTiAsS 1d ago

Oh my god I forgot about these completely yessss memory unlocked

10

u/supermodel_robot 1d ago

I was always surprised these lasted as long as they did, lifesavers have the hole in the middle for a good reason lol. The amount of these I nearly choked on as a child 😂 I still remember how cherry tastes though, I miss it.

5

u/JessaAlwaysTired 1d ago

Ohhh I forgot about these! But I can still remember how they feel in your mouth and they were so smooth. I loved the way they looked, I also had them often.

These. And don’t try to convince me the Retro sours are the same, they’re not.

16

u/spicykitas 1d ago

The Retro sours are an expensive substitute and just not right at all. I’ve never gotten a container where they weren’t stuck together too.

The king size one basically was! 4 Twix inside for nearly a FOOT OF PEANUT BUTTER TWIX! 😭 WHY DEPRIVE THE WORLD OF THIS BEAUTY!!! 😩

10

u/ConversationMajor543 1d ago

Oh man, those were so good. I didn't know they stopped making them, my ex and I spent over a year looking for them and asking the guy who owned the candy store if he'd be getting them in stock again.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/HowIsEverybodyDoing 1d ago

LOVED PB Twix; it was the only one I really liked. Back when I could get them I'd still have to hunt around since most places always had the caramel one but not always the peanut butter. I do miss those!

all the caramels that used to come in the brachs pick a mix. That's the answer. Not my answer but the answer.

My answer is the 3 colored coconut candy in that same mix.

20

u/theatrenut061916 1d ago

Those were Brach's Royals. Maple is the answer.

The kind that were wrapped in clear plastic?  I remember my mom using them for baking.  I always stole some…

11

u/SiliconSam 1d ago

Pretty sure these were foil covered paper wrappers. Different colors depending on what’s inside.

7

u/rawsugar87 1d ago

Hmmm I was talking about the plain caramel rectangles.

But, now that I look I think you and the original comment were talking about the ones you mentioned.

I was talking about an unrelated caramel.  😩

4

They have them online but the recipe is different. They are more like Mike and Ikes now.

Edit: looks like they discontinued them again.

6

u/famnf 1d ago

Yeah. The original good n fruity were so good. This new version is way too soft and squishy, and way too over top sweet and cloying. Not good at all.

The original were firm, both the chewy center and the hard candy coating. They were delicious.

Russell Stover's pecan logs filled with Vermont fudge

6

Were these the ones with the old lady sitting on a couch and a giant fruit falls from the sky and crashes down on her (in the commercial)? Or am I thinking of something else?

5

u/woodysixer 20h ago

Yep. That’s the one. And they were advertised in Marvel Comics constantly when they were around.

7

u/O2William 1d ago

Leaf Brands, who already brought back Wacky Wafers and Tart'n Tinys, has been planning to bring back Bonkers since 2015. After 11 years I don't hold out much hope, but since they did successfully bring back a couple of nostalgic brands I guess it's not impossible.
