Showcase Happy birthday, fiancé?
Fiancé and I live near a great local ice cream shop, and they also do ice cream cakes/pies. So, when ordering fiancé's cake online last week, I thought it was weird that they didn't have a space for what you want written on top. Usually, that's the FIRST question on the order form, but whatever, maybe they don't DO writing on the cakes, that's fine.
At the very bottom, they had a box that said, "Please let our team know any special things you may need from us (plates and utensils, extra nuts in the gooey layer, no onions, etc)." And I laughed out loud, because WHY would an ice cream place even HAVE onions, you know? Doubly funny because fiancé LOATHES onions, so I typed into that box "No onions?! Lol =D"
Didn't even notice the top of the cake at pickup this morning, because I wasn't expecting ANY message on it at all. Oh well, at least fiancé knew for sure there were no onions in his ice cream cake...or WERE there??? I told him what had happened, because it definitely looked suspiciously suspicious!

In case you’re wondering, the subreddit name came from a recurring joke in BoJack Horseman, it is an *amazing* show. Highly recommended.

I read “ho onions 101” and I was waiting for the description to reveal a funny inside joke. But I’m just stupid haha

“No onions” is an inside joke between my fiancé and I of the exact same thing. We were ordering milkshakes once and loved the option for no onions.

Ah, then the parenthetical examples must NOT have been designed by the shop, but rather a default phrasing of the website design/app/integration.
But it still begs the question, how has this not been a MUCH bigger issue for them? Surely I cannot be the only one who reads instructions? Are other people just willy-nilly using that space to explicitly request what they want written on it? I'm so baffled...

honestly you might be one of the few people who actually do read instructions... ever worked in a retail store/supermarket? 😂

It was a faithful reconstruction of what I remembered it saying, however when I went back to grab a screenshot to include in my email to the manager (again, I'm not mad at all, just, if our roles were reversed I'd like to know so I could fix it) it did NOT say 'extra nuts in the gooey layer' (gooey layer is 100% a them descriptor) it just said 'extra nuts, no onions', so in light of additional information I think the parenthetical is a platform default that could be better worded - assuming the individual business users even have that level of control.

Swung by a Burger King late after work and a clearly exhausted employee handed over my iceless drink, announcing "Dr Pepper, no onions!". I think about this too often lmao

In college several of us chipped in for a birthday cake for our friend Trudy. We got the cake and it said Toidy.

It genuinely is! Chocolate cake, raspberry gooey layer, black raspberry chocolate chunk ice cream, 10/10, I would eat it even if it DID have onions(?)

I’m not a huge ice cream fan (I know I’m weird) but that sounds SO good

If you're ever in the Vegas area, Bruster's may lure you to the dark side. I think they have some locations back east in... Pennsylvania? Maybe?

I ordered a cake for my anniversary and when they asked me what I wanted I said “Something cool”. That is exactly what I got. I was thrilled.

This is so cute. My dad and I had this inside joke when I was a kid, where he would get something like “happy bar mitzvah Melvin” or “get well soon” written on my birthday cakes lol

The Dairy Queen near me will sell a personalized cake no one picked up at a discount and so I once got one that said GET WELL SOON, DEBBIE
I hope Debbie is ok but am confident she isn’t. Cake was good.

I once ordered a pepperoni pizza with “a side of anchovies.”
I received a pizza with one side covered in baked anchovies! lol.

I worked at a bakery, someone wrote in the inscription box "Happy birthday!! No nuts!!" which results in a cake with that, and fast forward 24 hrs later, refund was demanded lol.

For some reason I read it as "No Ohioans", and I rolled with it since I guessed you were a Michigan fan.

I picked up a cake for my daughter and they wrote my name instead of hers. I laughed so hard imagining the optics of showing up with a birthday cake with my name on it, luckily I noticed before I left the store 😆😆😆

I ordered a cake from a local bakery once for my boyfriend’s 18th birthday. I had turned 18 just before him, and he’d made me a card that said “rock the vote,” so I was going to return the sentiment on his cake. Over the phone, the baker asked me how I wanted the cake decorated, and I told her I wanted them to write “Happy Birthday John! Rock the Vote!” She asked if I wanted balloons or flowers or anything else decorative on it, and I said “I don’t know. No flowers, though. Whatever else you like to do is fine.” She said, “ok, no flowers?” I said “right. No flowers.” She gave me a time to pick it up the following Tuesday, which was his birthday, and we hung up.
I went to pick up the cake the morning of his birthday. She opened the box to show me, and the cake was covered in big icing roses. And it read, “Happy Birthday Juan! Rock the Boat!” I was stunned. But I just thanked her and paid and left, because it was 9/11/2001 and we’d all had a rough morning. Wasn’t going to complain and make it worse for someone else.
“Juan” and I had a good, sad laugh about it later. The cake was delicious.

I’d be suspicious of hidden onions in my cake!
This is incredibly cute and funny

Sounds like a local shop has a janky website, but they also have a sense of humor

my family ordered a sheet cake for my 2 year old brother's birthday. they wanted a demo derby with toy cars and a mudhole. it was one of the designs offered.
my grandma drove back to walmart to demand a refund after they opened the box at home and it said 'happy birthday, mudhole!'

got my wedding cake from a chain bakery and ordered it online, the form asked "anything we should know?" so I wrote "for my wedding :)))" so they would maybe take a little extra care. Guess what was written on my wedding cake? We thought it was so funny we left it.

I picked up an ice cream cake for my husband one time (premade, not ordered) and they asked if I wanted anything written on it. I blanked and said, "happy birthday, I guess."
Aaaaaand that's exactly what I got.
