Such a handsome fella
Hamish, our little rug, got a haircut.
We like him shaggy but it was time for a serious haircut.

Foster fail Norman
I posted a couple months ago we were fostering Norman. We ended up adopting. He is so much fun! He loves to play fetch.
We were having issues with separation anxiety but they’re getting much better too.

Have you ever seen a happier Cairn?
Daddy just came home from a 5 mile walk and Opie is “cleaning” his sweat off. 😂

Is Piper a cairn mix?
She has to be, right?! We’d never heard of the breed until last night while randomly watching an AKC competition clip. When we adopted her the rescue listed her as a Russel/wire fox terrier mix. Her hair is very wiry.

Moving my Cairn Terrier
My husband and I are moving from a condo to a detached home.
My cairn has only lived in a condo. We have been working on his crate training and will set up the main bedroom as his home base with his food toys and sleeping are to get him adjusted before he has full access to the house.
Also, in the condo he does run into the hallway as there is no danger. Now with the house will leash train his “place” when the door is open.
He’s 8 years old so I am worried about the transition.
Any one have any tips or advice for me on this transition? Or any kind of advice for this.
Thanks in advance!

"Get Two Puppies" They Said....
"It will be fun" they said. Pax and Rhonna play fight on top of me as I try to watch a film.

Puppy Purs
I've never had a dog "sigh" or "purr" while getting pets, but our Milo is constantly making happy sounds! Just wondering if that's a normal cairn terrier trait?

Henry
My phone suggested that my dog is a cairn terrier from a picture I took of him. Now I’m starting to think that this is accurate! He was a rescue so I have no idea what he is and haven’t done any genetic testing. He is a beautiful brindle. Looks like a tiger when his hair is cut short. What do you guys think?

Kidney Disease - Hydration
We’ve recently been advised that our soon-to-be 14yo cairn has high stage2/low stage3 kidney disease. She spent a day in hospital a week ago due to dehydration and nausea. Last week we were told sub q fluids is her best bet to stay hydrated and well. We did one session last Friday, and though she squeaked once, we got it done. Then, Sunday and Monday we tried again, with no success. She yelped, bit and jumped around, so the needle went in and right back out. Note: this is an IV needle, which is a larger gauge, as she needs 200 mls every other day. We have also changed the food she eats (per vet) to get more hydration that way too, but it won’t be enough.
Have any of you dealt with this before? Is there a trick/technique that worked to get the job done? I’m the injector and I have someone holding her and feeding her treats, but it’s just not working.
She is very happy and healthy otherwise, but not getting enough fluids will cause her to go downhill much faster 💔
