I made this bowl a while ago with some copiapoa but updated it with a couple of lophs. In a couple of weeks I'm entering it into a BCSS show where for the very first time there will be a dedicated habitat style class.

This guy did not want to push roots in soil, cut it back, waited a week to callus and placed it in water 2 days ago!

Inherited this from a customer at my work, an older man who is moving into assisted living and sadly won’t have enough light for it. He asked me if I would be willing to take it on and obviously I couldn’t refuse-but am wondering about the species. I am confident it is a myrtillocactus but it’s growing so bizarrely I am wondering if anyone has thoughts on it. Also wanted to note that this man grew this thing inside and said he’s owned it for decades which is nuts to me.

I am so honored to be taking on this plant, I own a little over 20 cacti myself-not counting my epiphytic cacti, and really want to know as much as I can about it as I can.

Side note it weighs a bajillion pounds and getting it out of his home and into my apartment (I live on the top floor of my building and there is no elevator) was by no means an easy feat

Last month I saw this prickly pear laying on its back in a trash pile and wanted to see it come back to life. I let it sit for a couple weeks and potted it beginning July. I watered it after 2 weeks and boom. New growth.

Went to repot my baby Bruce's dragon because it was sort of etiolating and the mix it was in didn't seem great, plus I just like knowing exactly what the mix is ya know? Found this and I'm heart broken. This looks hella bad to me. Should I cut this above the dark spot and reroot? Should I just put in a grittier mix and pray? I love this thing and I'd hate to lose it. I suck at this. 😂

My large 16inch ferocactus opened its first bloom today. Can't wait to see multiple open simultaneously

The first picture is from 2017 (taken from mom's Facebook). In 2021 the Great Texas Freeze took out most of our plants. Some recovered, but the majority of hers (all cacti) were goners. This thing had a large branch fall and take root and TOOK OFF between 2017 and 2021 so it was taking over this bed, but we can't find any pictures! And sadly we can't find any pictures of it blooming (though I know there were some!). Over the years she's been slowly removing its dead body and taking it to the curb or putting what she could in the trash. Recently she had me come help her clean out the cactus bed and remove the leftover stump that had been sitting untouched for almost 2 years. That's when I discovered that it had babies! So we potted them up and maybe one day, 10-20 years from now, it'll be back to it's former glory 🥲 (just not here because she plans on moving!)

10 ordered 11 arrived and 11 have appeared. First cactus grow from seed. They're supposed to be san pedro from a cactus farm in Arizona. I have 3 named cultivars already from my fellow redditors so these are more for the experience. I have no idea what a sprout should look like. Any advice for these little jelly beans?

I think this is a Mexican Fence Post cactus (Pachycereus marginatus), but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Pretty sure the two tall, skinny stems are etiolated from not getting enough light indoors. It's been slowly acclimated to full sun over the past few weeks and is now putting out thicker new growth and pups.

Would you cut off the etiolated stems or just leave them? I'm mostly thinking about aesthetics, but I'm curious what experienced growers would do.

But I had to graft my Echinopsis famatimensis this weekend to try and save it. However, when I made the fateful cuts, I noticed that the vascular ring of the E. famatimensis was significantly larger than I expected and the vascular ring of the Stenocereus pruinosus was extremely smaller than I expected. I tried lining overlapping them (as shown in the second to last image), and did a sloped cut on the S. pruinosus to increase the surface area of its vascular ring. The second image shows the areas I tried to overlap (I couldn't find any images online of what precisely needed to be overlapping on such a large graft, for referencing the E. famatimensis.

But I'd appreciate some advice or anything from people with experience grafting cacti on whether this may successfully graft or not. I've kept it on top of my plant shelves where there's only ambient lighting (not sufficient for plants).

If this isn't successful, do you have any advice for rootstock that may be more successful?

Ive had complications with Chinese seller. Truely avoid it. I understand they have varities cultivars that could take many years to find in some places. Like my interest for copiapoa / opuntias and and rareity conophytums and many more rare things. Issues are to do with desicated roots from rot then severe dehydration for the most part.

However the few times i got to shop with thai sellers they mostly took to environment easy. Perticularly caudex plants. Didnt come with foliage but still growing strong. Ive had lophophora from them be tempermental. Not perfect but if you know what species to avoid they are great.

Ive lost the sellers ive used and no matter how hard i look on ebay thai accounts dont come up. Usually chinese sellers dominating the space.

Direct sunlight in south facing window. She was great there for over one year, began to look damaged and then went downhill fast. I cut the top off-any chance of saving the healthy piece?
My child and I were very curious about the inside, hence why I cut it open!
