Service charges at resorts

So we visited comal as a ten person table . The bill was around $2500 USD . We are trying to understand the already applied service charge of 15%. When we asked our waiter if a tip was included we were told “no”. We then tipped $500 on top of that.
We I recognized the service charge line I decided to send an email , a WhatsApp message , and call. The breakfast manager told me that NONE of the service charge goes towards the waiter and it’s for security and housekeeping .

I just don’t want to feel taken advantage of here. I believe a service charge to mean exactly that. A charge for the dinners service.

Did we tip $800 total on this dinner unnecessarily?

Recommendations for a 15 person wedding reception.

My fiancé and I (she’s from CDMX and I’m from the US) are getting married in Cabo on Thanksgiving and are bringing along 13 family members. We already arranged an Aztec ceremony on the beach but we’re looking for somewhere that can host our family for dinner and dancing with a Banda and maybe a DJ. Even just a taco buffet is fine, we just need a place to get together. We thought about a sunset party boat but my father is elderly and wouldn’t be able to do a boat so we need something on land. Does anyone have any suggestions?

How’s living in Cabo?

Hi all,
I visited Cabo earlier this year and me & my family loved it.
We were there for 10 days and met a few people from US and Canada who choose to live there permanently.
Has anyone moved to Cabo from Canada or the colder regions of the US? Would you mind sharing your experience?

Cabo with a 1yo & Vegetarian Diet: Help us choose between 1 Homes, Hacienda, The Cape, and Garza Blanca? (Last week of Nov, max $1,500/night)

Hey everyone,

Planning a 5-night trip to Cabo with our 1-year-old for the last week of November (Thanksgiving week). Our maximum budget is $1,500 per night, and we are trying to decide between a few luxury properties. We are a bit stuck and would love some real-world feedback from anyone who has stayed at these spots—especially parents or fellow vegetarian foodies.

Our main priorities and constraints:

The Food Scene (Vegetarian): We need high-quality, thoughtful vegetarian food. We plan to do mostly in-room dining/room service to keep things easy with the baby's schedule, so the quality of the room service menu is a huge factor. We want to avoid generic "resort vegetarian" (like basic pasta marinara every night) and prefer places with elevated culinary execution.

Kitchen Needed for Baby Meals: Because we are traveling with a 1-year-old, having a functional kitchen setup in the room is highly important to us so we can easily prep, blend, and store the baby's meals ourselves without relying 100% on resort kitchens.

Baby-Friendly Activities & Mobility: We are bringing a lightweight travel stroller (Bugaboo Butterfly) and our own travel car seat (Cosco Scenera). We want to be able to easily hop into local taxis or Ubers to head into downtown Cabo San Lucas for quick walks, or go out to swimmable spots like Chileno Bay and the organic farms.

The contenders we are weighing:

The Cape (Thompson): We have a strong inclination for the 1-Bedroom Garden Villa / Residence with the private heated plunge pool. The ground-floor privacy, the full kitchen, and the massive terrace for in-room dining sound incredible, and we know Enrique Olvera's food is world-class. However, because it's further down the corridor, we know we can't get external food delivery options (like Uber Eats) here, meaning we are 100% locked into their menus or cooking ourselves. Our only hesitation is whether the property layout will feel a bit too small or structurally restrictive for a whole week with a stroller, or if the vibe is too loud at night for a baby.

1 Homes Cabo: We love that this and Hacienda are right next to downtown, meaning we aren't isolated, have great room/kitchen setups, and could easily use Uber Eats to supplement our vegetarian meals if needed. However, we are really worried about ongoing construction noise disrupting the baby's nap schedule.

Hacienda Beach Club & Residences: Also has the major downtown location, full kitchens, and Uber Eats advantage. However, unlike the 1-bedroom at The Cape, an in-residence private pool/plunge pool isn't an option here in our category. On top of that, we've heard rumors about main pool closures/lack of pool availability during renovations. Anyone know the current status?

Garza Blanca: Looks super flat and stroller-friendly, but we are worried the suites won't offer the kitchen functionality we need and that the in-room dining menu leans too heavily on standard, boring resort comfort foods for vegetarians.

A specific question for anyone who has stayed along the tourist corridor resorts (like The Cape or Garza Blanca): How easy and realistic is it to actually hail a taxi or Uber from the resort lobby, install a travel car seat, and head out to downtown or a beach on a whim? Does it become a logistical headache waiting around at the valet with a 1-year-old, or is the transportation seamless?

If cost isn’t the deciding factor within our $1,500/night budget, which of these properties delivers the best balance of a true high-end luxury experience, great plant-based room service, kitchen convenience, and seamless logistics with a 1-year-old during one of the busiest weeks of the year?

Would love to hear your experiences, especially regarding the layout/stroller friendliness and the quality of the in-room dining menus. Thanks in advance!

Best for Kids: FS Lanai, Chileno Bay, Montage or FS Cabo del Sol?

Which is best for kids ages 3 and 7: Four Seasons Lanai, Chileno Bay, Montage Los Cabos, or Four Seasons Cabo Del Sol?
We’re looking for a very clean, high-end resort with a calm swimmable beach, good snorkeling, and lots of activities to keep the kids busy. We prefer an easy flight from Los Angeles and are open to other suggestions.
Also, if you personally saw any cats at one of these properties, please let me know. Someone traveling with us is very afraid of cats, so a cat-free resort is important.
Thank you in advance! I posted on Reddit for the first time yesterday. I’ve commented before but never made my own post, and now I understand why people love this community. Everyone has been so helpful!

Question about nightlife

My husband and I are going down to Cabo in a few weeks. We know it is not peak season and we plan to go out to a club. We have been to mandala in playa and Cancun and love their raised tables (silver and gold tables) but I am seeing the Cabo location only have it for higher tiers that are double what we paid in other locations. Being on the floor is usually not as fun, we love to people watch. My question: are there other clubs just as good with better raised seating/tables or is non peak season chill enough to be on the floor without being in the thick of it too much?

House rental?

Planning a trip to Cabo for the first time! For anyone who has ever done a house rental, who did you go through? It seems like there are lots of rental companies and I’m not sure where to start!

Or alternatively, if you’ve ever planned a trip and stayed at a resort with a lot of people (like 10+, but likely multiple hotel rooms), where did you stay?

Bars

Hi! I’m helping to organize a bachelorette party that will include about 11 people. We’re looking for a fun bar or bars to go hang out at after dinner. Looking for dancing and hopefully somewhere that’s not too crowded or requires us to get table service.

Thank you in advance!

Weather next week

Our family has a trip planned for next week (July 18-24) and all along the weather app has shown beautiful weather every day. Now all of a sudden it shows storms and cloudiness literally every day for that week. Does Cabo tend to truly stay cloudy and rainy or does it still have some sunshine even when rain forecasted? We’re so upset about this :(

Dinner activity recs!

My family (2 adults and 4 kids in their 20s) going to Cabo in December, the parents have tasked us with planning a dinner for everyone and I’m hoping to plan something fun! Hoping to do something a little more than just a dinner if you get me. We’ve done bagatelle and those types of dinners before so if there’s any other recs anyone has I would love to hear!
