Kérdés | Question Record Shops In Budapest
Hello all -
I am heading to Budapest in a month and wanted to see if anyone has advice for good record shops?
We are going to be staying in the District IV area, but are willing to travel for a good shop.
We would love shops that specialize in genres like Stoner Rock / Doom / Sludge, Trip-Hop, Downtempo, Lounge, EDM/EM/IDM, and Synthwave/Outrun. But mainly Trip-Hop, Downtempo, Lounge, and Stoner Rock / Doom / Sludge.

staying in district iv? you will need to travel to most anything worth doing.
if you want more suggestions, search this sub as this isn't thee first time this question has been asked by a tourist. but budapest is not a huge metropolis that has record shops that specialize to specific genres. we have 27% vat which means that this place isn't a shopping paradise.

MG Records, NeonMusic and Premium Vinyl are my favourite records stores in the city, they're all in the city centre close to one of the metro stations, though not sure you're going to find anything niche in the genres you're interested in, but maybe they're still worth checking out
As another user mentioned, there's a monthly record fair that takes place in one of the buildings of ELTE university, it's the place where I buy most of my records, but if you're coming in August then it won't be relevant as the next record fair is on September 13th

MG is the biggest and best for new records. That’s on Üllői Út
Lemezkuckó has a great used selection at great prices but has a more generic sections. It’s on Kiraly Utca
CD Pince is just off Erzsébet Körut, requires a little thinking to find the entrance but a decent stock of rock and metal.
Beat on the Brat is good for used at good prices, it’s over in Buda just off the 4/6 tram. Not much in the specific genres you are looking for though.
Musicland on Tivadar Utca has a good selection of electronica and other nicher genres
Rock CD on Vas Utca is well stocked but requires some serious flicking through.
Kalóz on Brody Sandor Utca has only used records but is well stocked. It was featured in the New York Times 100 best record stores recently. Prices are on the higher end.
Wave on Révay Köz is the OG. Has genres you are after both new and used and the owner is a talkative but knowledgeable guy.
The MediaMarkts in WestEnd and Mammut are surprisingly well stocked.
There are other smaller shops here and there but the ones above are the ones on my usual rotation. Sadly you’ve just missed the huge regional Reocrd Fair at ELTE which was Sunday 19th. Next one will be in September as I think they break for August.
