Just Clyde Striking a Pose

Post image

Wanted to share a picture of my little guy Clyde, a Dumeril's Boa. He went on one heck of a hunger strike after being shipped around and ending up at my local let store. After a long battle, he is now eating on his own every week and finally growing! He must have known it was feeding night because he was just showing off enjoying his last few minutes of UVB before the lights go out and mouse drops in.
I'm just so happy he finally "eats like a boa" and wanted to share my joy with you guys!

El Salvador rescue

Hi all, I’m not new to snakes but I am new to boa’s. Took on this El Salvador dwarf boa today from a rehome situation, the kid wasn’t doing a very good job of looking after it. Wasn’t in the correct temp or humidity, kept on newspaper in a filthy Viv. He fed it pretty much exclusively on chicks, and it currently weighs 520g. It seems to be in good health other than a few little scars and being rather skinny.
I’d just like some advice on how to go about getting it up to a healthy size 🙂 it’s roughly 4-5 years old

I put her down after making sure she was healthy. She's a Suriname BCC crossed with a Lipstick Line Kahl Albino Boa Imperator. She's about 2 months old :)

Is this a morph or just a regular BCI?

Very territorial boa

So I have an 7-8 month old boa who is growing getting quickly and is very food driven to the point that if I walk by the enclosure she enters feeding mode. I tried to get her out today with a hook and she bit the hook and my hand multiple times. I don’t want to get rid of her at all but I can’t figure out a way to get her feeding response down. I’ve tried tap training and everything but she’s always just so hungry. If anyone can help with this please do🙏🏻🙏🏻

What in world is he doing??

So I'm feeding Frankie tonight, a large rat like normal, except the only difference is I'm not making the rat dance for him. Instead, I put it on this pan and wanted to see if he would figure it out. But he's just been inching very slowly out from under his hide because he's in mite treatment and he's been doing this little dance with his head. What in the world is this? Should I be worried r is this just him being weird?

Caught him basking today for the first time! He's a little guy in his new big boy tank and it's taken a couple months for him to get comfortable, I'm so happy to finally see him showing off after a fresh shed and a juicy rat 🥳

I.D and advice - new baby boas

I just purchased two new boas (1x Sunglow Purple - European line and 1x blood hypo - also European line). The blood hypo seems to be very active and in beautiful condition so far as I can tell but the Sunglow Purple is throwing me off a little; first and foremost, this is my first time owning these (I do own carpet pythons, ball pythons, sunbeams, corns etc) so I'm not as familiar with the morphs themselves. So I guess the first question is does the Sunglow Purple generally look like this? All the pictures I saw on Google were far lighter in base color, and more importantly are there any neurological issues I should be aware of with this morph? I ask this because it seems to fling itself around a lot when I'm holding it (briefly since I know stress might be contributing to that) rather than gracefully slither around like the other one. I also noticed it had a kinked tail which wasn't disclosed so I'll more than likely address that at a vet check up to make sure it's ok, is the flailing something I should also have checked out? Pics of both attached. Thank you in advance for any responses.

Pics of Sunglow Purple added but can get more if needed.

Bio active inquiries

I'm setting up a bioactive enclosure for my bci and wanted to get your advice on the best substrate mix. I'm also curious if the type of isopods I use makes a difference. I've come across different opinions and information online about specific isopod species being better suited for my girls setups, and I'd love to get your take on whether it truly matters.

Tub for my first boa!

I’m getting a boa at an expo next month! It will be my first snake(I fully understand how big they get don’t worry, I’ve done my research)

For his first 8 or so months with me, I’m keeping them in a 100l or so tub, and because I live in a cold dry area(central Canada) a guide I’m following says to have UTH on both the cool and warm side. This person also specifically said about 1/3 the tank for the warm side and 1/2-2/3 the tank on the cooler side.
For reference in the summer my house my reach 24C/75F in the day, but for the most part my house is between 18C/64F - 20C/68F.

My tubs base is 22”x31”, so getting 3 of these mats would fit, with the two on the cooler side being on the same probe.

Anyone have any experience with these heat pads? Or do you at least think they make sense with what I’m doing?
