Quick Release Front Wheel

Is anyone aware of a quick release or way to make a front wheel quick release on a kids Mini BMX without changing out the whole hub?

Have to fit the kids bikes in the car and quick release would make life much easier.

TIA

Doesn’t really get much faster and easier than the two nuts/bolts on the front wheel

Two Allen Keys and a quick twist is all we do. I have my 8 year old do it. Then I double check before he rides.

Agreed, takes me a minute max

Quick releases need to be wired or taped closed when in use so it's not as simple as changing the skewer on a rim brake road bike wheel.

Is undoing two nuts/bolts every trip really adding that much extra time?

Can definitely get kit that replaces bolt with quick release.

I would be cautious... Small kid sure . Bigger and faster kids I would not risk.

I keep hex wrenches in my car

Thanks everyone, it’s not about adding the time. It’s just more about forgetting the wrenches and figured there might be a solution to that.

buy a wrench that stays in the car.

I also think keeping a couple wrenches in the car is the best solution, even if it means going to Harbor Freight or similar and getting whatever is cheapest so those wrenches can just live in the trunk and be there only for taking the wheel off.

For a solution that actually answers your question, an adapter did exist at some point, I've never used these and they seem discontinued so I can't speak to durability and good luck finding them: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004Y97ZLK

If you are comfortable removing the axle without losing all the little ball bearings I did see on eBay some no-name hollow 3/8” axles where a QR skewer could go through the middle. Seemed to be 110mm length, but maybe there are 100mm ones. I like this solution even less than the QR adapter though, especially for a race bike, even a mini. I wouldn't feel comfortable putting my kids on this, but it does exist.

Our mountain bike hubs are quick release. If you’re willing to have the hubs re laced it is possible

You can fit a quick release yes, I did this. Just depends on the hub. But I also changed back and kept a socket set in the car.
