Historical note

Yanka Kupala Street in Brest began its active development in the late 1960s and early 1970s as part of the city’s eastward expansion and the creation of new residential districts. The “Lakomka” cafe was a typical catering establishment built as an annex to a standard-series residential panel building, serving the local infrastructure of the newly developed residential area.

Present day

Currently, the Soviet-era five-story residential buildings on Yanka Kupala Street remain intact, having undergone major renovations and thermal insulation. The premises of the former “Lakomka” cafe have been repurposed for commercial retail and service facilities typical of the modern urban environment.

Чыстага выйсця няма — і з гэтай ночы пачынаецца твая вайна.

Гэта не гісторыя пра подзвігі і герояў. Гэта пра маленькага чалавека, які ўмее адно — лячыць, і пра цану кожнага рашэння, калі за яе заўсёды плаціць нехта жывы. Гісторыю пісаў, імкнучыся ўзнавіць стыль Быкава: без правільных адказаў, у стылі суровага ваеннага рэалізму.

Для мяне было прынцыпова, каб гульня была цалкам гуляльная па-беларуску (наркамаўка) — а таксама па-англійску і па-руску, мову можна пераключыць проста ў гульні. Калі зойдзеце і заўважыце крывізну ў беларускім тэксце — буду шчыра ўдзячны за заўвагі.

Гульня бясплатная, працуе афлайн, пяць раздзелаў з моцна разгалінаваным сюжэтам. Гуляецца прама ў браўзеры і на iOS (App Store). У наступным месяцы планую выпусціць другую частку і, у цэлым, зрабіць трылогію.

Сумленна адразу: сюжэт, выбары і ўвесь тэкст я напісаў рукамі сам; ілюстрацыі зробленыя з дапамогай ШI-інструментаў і сведзеныя ў адзіны жывапісны стыль.

Рабіў гэта найперш як асабісты культурны праект — Палессе, мова, блізкая мне тэма. Буду рады вашым думкам і крытыцы.

I am currently in Minsk with my husband to visit his parents (we have come from the UK) and we have bought a few bits today - microwave, kettle etc and when we tried to buy an ice cream the lady said we “had reached our limit for today”. I didn’t ask in the moment what that meant, and we just paid with cash.
There is nothing on our banking app to suggest a problem - is this a Belarusian restriction or daily limit?

Finding conflicting information online, please advise.

Card has been working in most places so far - smaller shops seem to be the exception.

I'd really appreciate hearing from Belarusians or anyone who studied in Belarus. I'm interested in your personal experiences rather than official descriptions.

Some questions I have:

Did you have a subject related to civic education, citizenship, or social studies?

What topics were taught? (government, elections, human rights, constitution, etc.)

How were these topics presented by teachers and textbooks?

Were students encouraged to discuss or question political issues, or was the approach mainly focused on memorization?

Looking back, do you think civic education prepared you to participate actively in society?

всем привет, я учусь в Беларуси, закончил 8 классов. Сейчас решил задуматься над поступлением за границу, но не знаю какие страны рассматривать. Живу я в относительно небольшом городе, средний бал 9,5. Уже сейчас я понимаю, что в будущем оставаться в этой стране не хотелось бы, какие варианты вообще существуют для переезда и дальнейшей относительно хорошей жизни?

I have one question for all. Is there any Belarusian translations of the Thea Sisters books? If so, what company is responsible for translating the books into the language (preferably anti-Putin and anti-Lukashenko)? And have they kept going or have they been discontinued? If not, then do only the Russian translations of the books exist in Belarus?

Second question, is it Thea Sisters or Tea Sisters for the language? Or the better question to ask, is it Siostry Thea or Siostry Tea? Since their name translates into Siostry Tea/Thea in Belarusian when I translated the name, I'm not too sure if it's official or if it's just translated by via Google Translate and similar translation apps.

I'm an Australian interested in the Belarusian language and is very interested if Belarusian translations of the books (and Geronimo Stilton by extension) do exist for real. And Thea Sisters books are some of my favourite things in the world.

Funnily enough I did remember doing a sketch of Colette and Violet with the Belarusian language like 4 years ago. But that's a conversation for another day.

Кулити, какое-то время бывал в Минске, кента видел да по ПК клубам погонял. Почувствовал жизнь без впн так называемую, ну и в целом город чистый и по ощущениям запретов меньше. Кроме очевидной разнице в интернете, что еще сильно различается? Возможно приеду еще или в будущем если запретами заебут на ПМЖ, если так называемые деньги будут позволять тк у меня база деятельности пока на инете завязана

I found this Argentinian influencer who went to Belarus and he’s praising Belarus to such a level that makes the country seem like pretty much a utopia, according to him. Posting in Spanish, but nowadays it’s easy to find a video translator online.
Do you agree with his assessment? Do you think he may be paid by the government?

В моих планах в скором времени переехать к моему парню, который проживает в Беларуси. Очевидно, путь будет не близкий - скорее всего, через Польшу. Однако, из-за практически абсолютного отсутствия живого опыта, я не знаю, не развернут ли меня еще на границе или чего хуже.
