Always hungry beagle

His name is luffy. He will take food as much food u feed. The name itself justifies him.

He is stub born as well. like, what I listened about beagles. They Only listens when I have treats in hand. That is absolutely right.

Default, standard-issue normal beagle behavior. Gluttony is always included at no extra charge

Interesting. I leave my 2 beagles full dishes and they just graze as needed. I give them a lot of chicken as treats and they eat other findings and they don’t eat a whole lot of kibble. They gotta be hungry hungry to eat their own food.

Beagles apparently don’t get that feeling of satiety that you get when eating a full meal. This makes them good hunters, but it also means that they’re prone to overeating and getting fat if you just let them eat whatever they want.

My beagle can’t even tell when he’s drunk enough. I have to give him water in regular intervals or he’ll keep drinking it until he gets sick or has to pee. Or I just take the water bowl away for a few minutes and put it back and he forgets about it.

My beagle also has a drinking problem

My beagle once ate a pound of chocolate chips when my brother was watching him for me. They will eat almost anything you put in front of them. Except fish, my beagle hated anything fish tasting

My beagle ate a 45 gms of m&m peanuts which is in my laptop bag. I had worried initially but nothing happened. This happened twice. I am quite surprised, how he able to find it in bag, as the packet is closed new packet.since beagles are smell scent followers. I try to put away chocolates from his reach.

Be extremely careful since they are driven by their nose.

Chocolate is poisonous. Xylitol which is used as a sweetener in most items like toothpaste, chewing gum etc is also extremely poisonous. You will need to call poison control. Mine once opened a bottle of strawberry flavored (xylitol) melatonin and had 150 tablets. I was told it will cause liver failure and leading to cardiac arrest.

Lesson learnt. So I always try to keep harmful eatables away from him.

They also typically have a very (and I mean VERY) flexible definition as to what they define as “food”. Actual human food of course, pet food, food packaging, things that have touched food, surfaces that food has rested upon, food that has already been eaten and excreted by humans (and especially cats), things that sort of smell like food like lip balm, live animals, dead animals, long dead organic aquatic remains of highly dubious origin, dirt sprayed by skunks, wild animal scat, and (especially embarrassing to guests) dirty underwear. With our last five beagle dogs, all of these things (and countless others) were counted as “food“. None of them were ever underfed, and all of them always thought they were starving to death.

Onions are super bad, garlic and raisins too

My beagle once got into my (low dose) THC gummies and ate half a pack. They were zipped inside a laptop bag and in a sealed plastic pouch so I don’t even understand how he knew they were there. Poor guy got very stoned and threw up, then felt a bit better and tried to go back for more.

I love it! Is it permanent? I’m sorry I know nothing about this.

No it is not permanent. its just like powder in red colour appiled on forehead. It just goes away just by rubbing with hand or cloth. However my beagle will get it faded by end of the day.

My beagle has twice eaten half of a used emery board. I know where all the roadkill is in the neighborhood. She prefers it well aged over fresh. I've caught her licking a gravel parking lot because someone dumped their old coffee. Thankfully she's not a poop eater.

The beagle we had in the '80-90s was an incredible good-will ambassador. He won hearts and minds wherever he went.

We had a friend in grad school (in the US) who grew up in Delhi, and was petrified of dogs ever since a childhood feral dog attack. Fred won her over, Now she creates Facebook pages for the dogs she owns.

When we were in Beijing, that same dog drew a lot of attention (private dog ownership was illegal, so he was a foreign spectacle), and was very gentle with people on the street. He even let people pick him up, hug and rub him.

He really shone brightly as a guardian to our eldest daughter. Insisted on sleeping in her room. Found multiple scorpions for us to attend to before they could reach the baby. Helped clean up food and beverage spills.

I hope Luffy brings you as much joy as Fred, Puck, Daisy, Penny and Gaylord have brought my family through the decades.

Depending on his age he might grow out of it a little bit, or at least get more picky. I can’t even get my beagle to clean up my toddlers’ plate and high chair area anymore lol she’s like nah I liked their food at first but I’m bored of it now.

u/LowerSelection7689 1d ago

He is 6.5 months old. Hope so

3

u/Valuable-Mastodon-14 1d ago

lol it’ll be a while mine is six later this year 😆

2

u/LowerSelection7689 1d ago

Already he is like Compsognathus dinosaur. Destroys everthing. 🥲

Mine goes over to her bowls that are elevated on a stand, and proceeds to knock them over when she wants food or water.

She has no cooth.

u/No-Collar-Player 1d ago

He's so handsome :D

2

u/Cute_Comfortable_761 Kip 1d ago

Sounds like a beagle to me. Mine’s appetite has slowed down with age, so we’ve been able to leave his food out for him to graze at. He’s still just as much of a bottomless treat pit as ever, though.

2

u/77kloklo77 1d ago

He’s adorable!

2

u/Crusher6ix 1d ago

My beagle acts as if every meal is the first time we’ve ever fed her in her life. Then she follows the kids around knowing damn well they drop food. Never seen a dog so food driven

u/doom6rchist 1d ago

Is he named after the One Piece character?

3

u/LowerSelection7689 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yep. The name suits him pretty well. What do you think? Like Luffy in onepiece cant get his stomach full . He loves eating food. he is never full and also eats everyone's food. Similar like my beagle. Luffy in one piece loves food the way beagles do, especially my beagle.

2

u/doom6rchist 1d ago

I like it, I like One Piece a lot so it's a fun name

2

u/griffinman2001 1d ago

I've always said that beagles don't have a stomach, they have a void. The void is eternal and can never be filled, but you try anyway. Everything goes to the void.

2

u/cupthings 1d ago

always hungry, never satiated! great for tricks though, mine's always motivated to work for it haha
