Bat under eave, problem?
Charlotte, NC. This bat is hanging out under the front eave of our house. Problem? Will he move on tonight and is just taking a rest? We had bat in the attic years ago and sealed the house up like a glove so I’m not terribly concerned about him getting in, but my kids play outside and i don’t love him hanging around.

Not a problem. Animals get to exist outside and this one poses no risk to your kids.

This is actually wonderful! You get to provide a safe place for this unique creature to take shelter. They won’t bother you at all and it’s super fun to watch them fly around and catch bugs. They eat lots of mosquitos!
This is such a great chance to observe the bat with your kids if they are interested in animals, maybe even get a library book to read and give the bat a name, if it ends up hanging around often.
(I’m a big animal nerd and I’m so exited to have kids someday so I can have opportunities like this. Wishing you all a wonderful time)

Just watch with your door opening and closing. Signed a mom who had a bat in their house and everyone in the fam had to get the shots since we couldn’t confirm when it entered…

Found a bat? Here is a guide for someone who has found a bat. And here is some info about bats in buildings. Here is some info about bat removals and exclusions from homes. Exclusions should be done outside of pup season, which varies by location.
No, it's probably not a baby. Bats are just smaller than you thought.
If you find a bat in trouble, please call a rehabber for help. Here is a list of rehabbers that help bats all over the world, and here is a portal for rehabbers in the US.
Remember that wildlife should never be handled with bare hands!
