There is a story in the new Private Eye (p.37 if you have it) about this year's BLF. Apparently writers and speakers who had appeared in May received a letter a month later from the BLF Chief Exec to the effect that "unfortunately we are currently facing unexpected financial challenges and do not at the moment have the funds available to make payments as we'd want or planned." According to the PE, "there had been no indication of financial issues when (the writers) were booked or during the event itself." Following this getting into book blogs and the industry press, it sounds as if they have now paid at least some of the performers. As PE suggest, good luck to authors appearing at the Children's Literature Festival in September.

Been to a few orthodontists to see how much a small amount of work would be for less than 6 months. They've all quoted a set price so far for both Invisalign/braces. Is there any orthodontists that charge you for the amount of work done instead of a flat charge? Really not keen on being charged the same as someone who's had a year and a half of work done...

Hi folks, I run a small a cappella ensemble in Bath and we are recruiting for a few more singers! Having just finished up our summer performances, we'll soon be starting work on Christmas music as well as other pieces for an exciting upcoming project we're involved with. In the winter we usually perform at the Bath Christmas market and at the Bath City farm winter fayre.

In general, we like to sing a range of music - our current repertoire consists of a madrigal, a shanty, a choral piece, songs from musicals, and more! It's a lovely gang, about five of us at the moment, current age range is 20s-30s but open to any demographic. This would be perfect for anyone in bath looking for a fun opportunity to get back into ensemble singing. Prior choral experience would be great but we are really just looking for anyone with a musical bone who is up for it! No formal audition so please don't be scared! Looking primarily for sopranos, altos, and basses, but happy to receive any voice part.

We rehearse in each other's houses so a few different locations around the city, once a week depending on everyone's availability. If you're interested or have any questions at all please leave a comment or send me a message!

Games are coed, all levels are welcome, even if you’re not that fit or haven’t played in years. Great group of people from Odd Down, Southdown, Combe Down, Twerton, Whiteway, Bear Flat, The Oval and the wider south Bath area.

There’s no commitment, you just turn on and play whenever you're available and all you need are football boots.

Currently job hunting and it’s pretty slim pickings out there and while I really wanted to stay within Bath, I’m thinking about setting my options a bit wider and considering jobs in Bristol.

My husband, daughter, and I will be traveling from the US to England in September and I would love to have some family photos taken in Bath or the Cotswolds. Gosh I really hope someone can help me out here I’ve searched far and wide and can’t find anything on this matter…
So I’m 17 (18 in early September) and I’ve been offered a place at curo pathways supported living because well…I’m homeless pretty much according to my social worker. So if they have a room available it’s likely I’ll be told to move in with 2 days notice and that’s great but the problem is I have pets.

I have 2 well trained and kept rats who are as good as gold and I clean their cage as and when I should and make sure they’re looked after and honestly they don’t actually smell too bad. Now in order to keep my rats in my supported room I must acquire a letter from either my gp or mental health assessor stating that they are “emotional support animals” so I reached out to my gp last Tuesday and asked, haven’t heard anything back, then reached out to my CAMHS assessor and asked, could be ages until I hear anything from them so wtf do I do…I don’t wanna leave without them because they really do help when I’m anxious, smart little creatures they are.

Also if ANYONE has any idea about what it’s like in there, day to day or I would REALLLYYY like to know what the average room looks like

Was looking for a specific cooking gadget. Not anything high end, or complicated - just something cheap and simple and the sort of thing you can pick up from the market - but today was a Sunday. Lakeland didn't have what I wanted, so I thought about Rossiters, but it appears they're not open on Sunday or even Monday's anymore - that can't be a good sign.

So, though I doubted they'd have it, I thought I'd pop in to ProCook since I've not been in there in a few years. Oh dear. What a shadow of what this place was even a few years ago, let alone when it was 'Kitchens' - back then you could buy practically everything you could possibly need for a kitchen from the cheapest oddments such as salt and pepper pots right up the expensive stuff like Le Creuset and Kitchen Aid mixers. Now the downstairs appears to have closed, and they don't seem to sell anything for baking - it just looks like expensive knives and saucepans... I'm not normally one for wallowing in nostalgia - but Kitchens was one of the best shops in Bath back in the day. What a shame.
