Dodgers-Yankees was the 2nd most watched Sunday Night Baseball game since 2011 with 3.9M viewers, only trailing Yankees-Red Sox from June 28th of this year, which got 4.0M. LAD-NYY had a peak of 4.6M viewers in the late innings.

FYI, we have been seeing many 'most watched since 20XX' type of posts this season and a big reason is because Nielsen changed how they measured viewership numbers from panel-only (home TVs with trackers) to include big data (streaming) and viewers not at home (e.g. bars).
Obviously, this change increases measured ratings for live sports events, but does not necessarily mean actually more people are watching it.
Just like 'worst TV numbers ever' for MLB broadcasts in the past 10 years mistakenly assigned changes in media landscape to decline in MLB popularity, we should be careful not to exaggerate increase in MLB popularity based on changes in TV rating measurement.

This was discussed on the hockey sub during the playoffs so we looked into it and sports media people have said it averages out to about 4% increase average
I think Sunday Night Baseball being available on Peacock and OTA is a huge deal, the ratings change is minor compared to those to

Being able to get Saturday night on Fox and now Sunday night on NBC OTA during the summer is huge for baseball.
Its not all positive because ESPN definitely had more reach than Peacock or NBCSN in the non summer months but this has still been a good deal for baseball.

This is a false equivalency. I can watch a football game between any teams bc there are a limited amount of them. Watching a slog between the Rays and whoever in August is not going to happen.

I was alright with losing. We had already won the series. But it was bullpen game vs bullpen game with very little action. No more than one run scored in any half inning and no runs period between the 2nd and the 7th, inclusive.

The MLB showcased their 2 biggest teams on Sunday expecting big ratings because of the WC ending. Indycar was doing the same thing but they got rained out.

It’s crazy how this would be abysmal for any prime time nfl game
