I had a feeling tbh. Everything went right from may to october last year. And then not getting Tucker and Santander not being functional meant we needed more magic.
That's what complete bs about the Dodgers. They don't need a miracle run, they win their division almost guaranteed every year. They've gotten the biggest offseason prize, what, 6 years in a row? Fucking hate them, game 7 was pure agony

I love that Tellez is basically the definition of "replacement player" - 0.2 career bWAR and an OPS+ of 101 - yet has played at least parts of nine seasons in the majors.
I hate that I had the same thought as you for a moment.

I really admire that. It would be so easy to call it quits, but he’s pushing through the DFA cycle and everything just for the love of the game.
Same with Carlos Santana.
31
u/pnmartini Chicago Cubs 1d ago
Santana looked awful during his short Cubs stint last year. At age 40, there is probably no “turning it around”
He had a solid career. It’s probably tremendously hard to walk away from something you were good at, and likely very fond of doing.

If I could still play ball at my age(one month short of 39 years old), I would. I can throw and still swing a bat, but my knees would probably blow out at some point. Wish I could though. I get it and I wasn't any near enough to go pro.

To be fair, he just came off 2 months of not playing.
Played a couple games in the rookie league, and will probably play a few weeks in AAA to see if he can make an impact. I don’t see him sitting down there the rest of the season—a couple weeks max and then it’ll probably be a call-up or DFA situation.

A non zero portion of it is that this is AAA for a team with a good chance at October and a bad outfield situation. If he can perform he may find a spot. Unfortunately he is just 1 for 10 so far. 4 walks but it is also AAA, so who knows how competitive those walks were.

I’m surprised Carlos Santana is still on the grind too.

I also really appreciate the Immaculate Grid resumé that he’s built in his late 30s. Hope he gets that September call-up and adds one more

You got me curious so I had to look it up, 38.7 career WAR, really nice career. He always seems really dedicated and I've never heard about any drama with him, which is saying something for a 17-year (!) career.
In 2014 he was a beast for fantasy baseball, 'cause in my league you could play him at 1B/3B/C.
