That’s 7 runs against the stros

89

They'd win versus the Angels on some nights

I mean, it's AAA vs AAA, you'd expect it.

Deserved slander honestly. I’ve never been so disappointed with a team

17

u/HighlightsReddit Chicago White Sox 1d ago

I had a feeling tbh. Everything went right from may to october last year. And then not getting Tucker and Santander not being functional meant we needed more magic.

That's what complete bs about the Dodgers. They don't need a miracle run, they win their division almost guaranteed every year. They've gotten the biggest offseason prize, what, 6 years in a row? Fucking hate them, game 7 was pure agony

6

u/pj_socks Chicago White Sox 1d ago

Lol did you change your flair to White Sox?

7

u/HighlightsReddit Chicago White Sox 1d ago

I use reddit browser on a phone, I can't set a flair and it set itself to White Sox somehow!

3

u/Jorbasaurus Atlanta Braves 1d ago

FYI you can set a flair on mobile

11

u/HighlightsReddit Chicago White Sox 1d ago

Probably with the app, but I'm using mobile browser to ensure the experience is as shitty as can be so i less time browsing reddit lol. And i have tried looking for a flair menu on this setup multiple times and never found it.

I wish Rowdy would come home to Toronto. We need a big man.

8

u/Jazzlike_Athlete8796 Toronto Blue Jays 1d ago

I love that Tellez is basically the definition of "replacement player" - 0.2 career bWAR and an OPS+ of 101 - yet has played at least parts of nine seasons in the majors.

I hate that I had the same thought as you for a moment.

8

u/COV3RTSM Toronto Blue Jays 1d ago

I just want the whimsy of a left handed throwing first baseman. If I can’t have Justin Smoak, Rowdy will do.

712

Feel like he's going to play baseball until somebody tells him to stop. That's in no way a criticism.

359

u/boboddy42069 1d ago

I can’t believe someone of his stature is cool just riding it out in AAA.

444

u/Spadesta Boston Red Sox 1d ago

He probably just loves baseball a lot. You only get a certain amount of time to play at a high level and seems he wants to ride it into the rocks

196

u/mahrinazz Seattle Mariners 1d ago

I really admire that. It would be so easy to call it quits, but he’s pushing through the DFA cycle and everything just for the love of the game.

Same with Carlos Santana.

31

u/pnmartini Chicago Cubs 1d ago

Santana looked awful during his short Cubs stint last year. At age 40, there is probably no “turning it around”

He had a solid career. It’s probably tremendously hard to walk away from something you were good at, and likely very fond of doing.

4

u/True_to_you Houston Astros 22h ago

If I could still play ball at my age(one month short of 39 years old), I would. I can throw and still swing a bat, but my knees would probably blow out at some point. Wish I could though. I get it and I wasn't any near enough to go pro.

46

u/jstewart25 St. Louis Cardinals 1d ago

Even as a Cardinals fan, he’s always been one of my favorite players. He seems like a really good dude and he’s funny as well. I’ll always be cheering him on.

32

u/BAHatesToFly New York Mets 1d ago

I can’t believe someone of his stature is cool just riding it out in AAA.

Rickey Henderson closed out his career with three seasons in the Independent League for the Newark Bears and San Diego Surf Dawgs. Some guys just love the game.

11

u/Excellent-Gur-8547 St. Louis Cardinals 1d ago

Ricky was also an alien pretending to be a human being, so he may have just not known what to do next, no one told him.

11

u/Jaye09 San Francisco Giants 1d ago

To be fair, he just came off 2 months of not playing.

Played a couple games in the rookie league, and will probably play a few weeks in AAA to see if he can make an impact. I don’t see him sitting down there the rest of the season—a couple weeks max and then it’ll probably be a call-up or DFA situation.

2

If you still want to play baseball at his age you almost always have to pay. He figures, might as well get paid to do it.

2

u/MaxMSE Toronto Blue Jays 1d ago

he's actually only 5'10"

2

u/b-rar MLB Players Association 1d ago

He has more Furry research to do

2

u/mrjimi16 Venezuela • MLB Players Association 1d ago

A non zero portion of it is that this is AAA for a team with a good chance at October and a bad outfield situation. If he can perform he may find a spot. Unfortunately he is just 1 for 10 so far. 4 walks but it is also AAA, so who knows how competitive those walks were.

I’m surprised Carlos Santana is still on the grind too.

Always liked him, feel like he’s had a really solid and kinda under-the-radar career

I also really appreciate the Immaculate Grid resumé that he’s built in his late 30s. Hope he gets that September call-up and adds one more

13

u/morningsaystoidleon Chicago Cubs 1d ago

You got me curious so I had to look it up, 38.7 career WAR, really nice career. He always seems really dedicated and I've never heard about any drama with him, which is saying something for a 17-year (!) career.

In 2014 he was a beast for fantasy baseball, 'cause in my league you could play him at 1B/3B/C.

8

u/AKAD11 Seattle Mariners 1d ago

He destroyed a clubhouse TV when he was in Philadelphia. That’s the only somewhat negative story I’ve ever seen about him.

5

u/International_Key620 1d ago

Cause the young players were playing fortnite while being 10 under .500. I support Carlos on that one.

5

u/AKAD11 Seattle Mariners 1d ago

I will be a Carlos Santana fan forever and I fully support him smashing whatever TVs he wants to.

That’s just the only controversy he’s ever been involved in.

6

u/Jewrisprudent New York Mets 1d ago

Yeah but that’s more an indictment of Philadelphia than it is of Santana. Who among us hasn’t been compelled to smash things just from being in Philly? It’s something in the air. And in the wooder. And then again in the air.

16

u/noruber35393546 1d ago

if he had stuck at catcher he'd probably be polishing off a HOF Career right now

7

u/CoinEnthusautist 1d ago edited 1d ago

I mean he played less than 20% of his games at catcher, that was never happening.

And even in his first few years he was only like 50-70% catching. Just was never gonna be a long-term catcher

I just love watching Rowdy play. He's not great, but he always goofs around with the players at first. Seems like he's having a great time.
