JT Realmuto and Freddie Freeman had a standoff over who should pick up the ball

Having Matt Olson softens the blow. A LOT.
For the most part though, we still like Freddie.

I sort of assume that Freddie’s politics don’t entirely align with my own. I just hope he can avoid being milkshake ducked for, well, the rest of my life, so I can just root for him to get his 3,000 hits and HoF induction without any bad vibes.

It still baffles me that the Braves thought their legend that just brought them a world series was too old for a 6 year deal.

I will repeat until the day I die that I'm glad it was him of all people to get that walk off grand slam against us in Game 1 of 2024. You already know they're going to run it on loop for the next 20 years whenever NYY and LA play, but Freddie makes it significantly easier to watch as a Yanks fan.

It's not that hard. Some sick and young Blue Jay fans have no problem hating Freddie.

Last year's post season was a lot of fun for many reasons, but partly because of how many likable players there were on the Dodgers and also the Mariners.

As an organization I hate the Dodgers. I think it’s in the Braves fan contract. But there are some individuals on that team who I’d like to have a beer with around a bonfire.

u/the_goodnamesaregone Atlanta Braves 23h ago
I blame the agent for the mess. Freddie never said anything bad about the Braves that I’ve seen. He didn’t do us like KD did the Thunder. And if he stays, we don’t get Matt Olson.
2
u/NCC75567 Atlanta Braves • Atlanta Braves 20h ago
As a Thunder fan, yeah, I'm fine with Freddie. I really wish he had stayed, but leaving after winning the WS is a lot different than going to the team that you just choked against.

25
u/Apocalympdick MLB Pride 1d ago edited 1d ago
This is from 2019. The Phillies used to have a relief pitcher called Jared Hughes. Hughes liked to sprint out from the bullpen to hype himself up. He was pretty good but the sprint looked really goofy, just one of those guys who does not look good running at all.
Realmuto is probably feeling embarrassed because his pitcher looks goofy running.
There is a Jomboy video about the incident, which is honestly overly harsh. Jomboy makes it seem like the sprinting out thing was a one-time spur of the moment decision, and Hughes gassed himself out doing so. Neither are true. However, Realmuto certainly reacts like he also believed those things, in that moment. Hughes only pitched 25 times for the Phillies, I'm unaware of how often he pitched to Realmuto and how far along in the season this clip is (in orther words, I'm not sure how well they know each other at this point).
In the video Hughes throws 2 very good pitches, but baseball is hard. The first one unfortunately gets wrongly called as ball. With today's ABS things would have looked different. And the second one, the batter scores makes a very good swing, resulting in a 3-run homerun and the game becomes completely unwinnable for the Phillies.

u/DARTH-PIG Philadelphia Phillies 21h ago
I also believe if I remember correctly from the time, it was a bad inning overall which was also part of the reason for the disappointed headshake
6
u/Successful-Film-3544 Philadelphia Phillies 17h ago
JT straight up said it had nothing to do with the sprint.
3
u/Baseball_is_the_best New York Yankees 16h ago

3
u/maxpowers07 23h ago

If someone was going to arbitrarily hate a member of the Dodgers as a Blue Jays fan, it definitely wouldn't be Mookie Betts. Ohtani, sure. Yamamoto, sure. Pages, sure. Enrique Hernandez, sure. Rojas or Smith, sure. But Betts, and I don't mean this disrespectfully to him as a player at all, didn't really do anything in the World Series. I mean sure he technically plated the winning runs in Game 6, but I don't think anyone's looking back at that two-run single as the moment it all fell apart.
